For 87 years, the Aptos/La Selva Fire Protection District has maintained a tradition of providing high quality fire and emergency services to the residents and visitors of Aptos and La Selva Beach. The District is a transport-capable ALS provider with medical transport subcontracted to American Medical Response West, a local paramedic and ambulance service. The A/LSFPD serves a population of nearly 30,000 residents within a service area encompassing a 27 square miles.
The District’s operational area is geographically diverse and consists of urban, suburban, forested mountain terrain, wildland and marine environments. Typically, the Fire Operations Division will respond to 2500 calls annually, with more than 80% of the Code 3 calls related to medical emergencies. Aptos Fire earned and maintains a Class 2 Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating. The District communicates through a central 9-1-1 dispatch center and unified communications system managed by Santa Cruz Regional 911(Netcom), a joint powers agency.
