The City of Sunnyvale invites applications for Public Safety Dispatcher in Training. Under supervision and in a trainee capacity, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.

Public Safety Dispatcher-In-Training is the entry and trainee level in the public safety dispatcher series. Under close supervision, incumbents are trained in dispatching techniques, equipment, and protocols. Work assignments change frequently to facilitate training. Employees are subject to daily and weekly observation reports until they demonstrate the ability to perform independently. This is an alternately staffed classification. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher I in the Police Department! In this trainee role, you will have the opportunity to learn to receive 911 system emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch assignments according to police and fire procedures, operate various dispatch center equipment, and maintain accurate records.

You will use a variety of public safety telephone and radio communications to obtain essential information from reporting parties, respond to inquiries, and determine and dispatch appropriate police and/or fire resources. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Other requirements include:

• Possession of a typing certificate verifying the ability to accurately type a minimum of 35 net words per minute. Certification may be from an online typing test, a recognized business school, or an employment/temporary agency, and must be dated no more than twelve months prior to the date of application. Candidates may be required to take an on-site typing test as part of the selection process.
• Must be able to pass a medical and psychiatric evaluation.
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:

The City of Auburn is seeking a dedicated and proactive law enforcement professional to serve as the Chief of Police.

This position will lead our dedicated department and be instrumental in guiding our department through today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. The City has 85 full-time employees serving 14,000 residents. The APD is a team of 24 sworn officers and 11 professional staff providing patrol, investigations, 911 dispatch and other law enforcement services. What You Will Do

The Chief of Police is responsible for the planning, administration and operation of the APD under general administrative direction. Upon hire, the incumbent can expect to work closely with the City Manager, City Council, Placer County and community leaders to further learn, understand and address community public safety issues.

APD utilizes the Community-Oriented Policing philosophy and the Problem-Oriented Policing strategy to better serve the community. This includes serving with the Community Advisory Council and Community Action Team to connect with those who live, work and play in Auburn. The APD team works closely with the Placer County Probation and Health and Human Services departments, along with other groups within our community, to address those in the community experiencing homelessness.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.  

DEFINITION
To inspect a variety of public works projects funded by federal, state, and municipal funds and inspection of both public and private improvements in new subdivisions to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, schedule, and safety regulations during their construction. Projects include those involving federal and municipal funds and both public and private improvements in new subdivisions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a skilled journey-level class that requires independence of action, judgement and discretion in interpreting plans and specifications and enforcing local, state, and federal construction regulations.

 

Essential Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Makes field inspections of a variety of public works projects including streets, roads, airport runways and taxiways, grade separations, curbs and gutters, sanitary sewers, storm drains, water lines, public buildings and structures, airport facilities, reservoirs, and new facilities for Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF).

Evaluates the quality of construction and of materials used in construction, to insure compliance with plans and specifications.

Requests and interprets results of soils, materials, and operational tests, including compaction test reports.

Performs contract administration duties including preparation of daily construction reports, weekly statement of working days, change orders, progress payments, general correspondence, and checking payroll records, material submittals, and certificates of compliance.

Writes letters to contractors, and initiates change orders concerning the contract.

Collects and reviews contractor payroll records to ensure compliance with state and federal wage rate laws.

Conducts employee interviews relative to federal requirements.

Write daily construction reports.

Estimates the cost of materials and labor necessary to complete new or unanticipated work.

Prepares progress payments to contractors and prepares reports relative to completed work.

Interprets and explains plans and specifications to the general public.

Responds to questions and complaints from the general public related to construction activities.

Enforces storm water pollution prevention program (SWPPP), Private and Public developments and makes reports for the Alameda Countywide Clean Water Program.

It is desirable to be familiar with CALTRANS specifications, procedures and standards.
 
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
 
License and Certificates: Possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's
License.
