THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Senior Traffic Signal Technician performs semi-skilled tasks involving maintenance, repair, modification, inspection and testing of traffic signals, controllers, and street lighting systems; leads and participates in a work crew; and performs other duties as assigned. This advanced journey-level classification in the Traffic Signal Technician series is distinguished from the Traffic Signal Technician by the added responsibility of providing day-to-day lead direction to section activities and staff.

Examples of Duties:

• Schedules maintenance, repair, construction, and replacement for traffic signal and street lighting assignments
• Assigns and monitors the work of assigned staff, including contractors
• Troubleshoots and evaluates maintenance and repair needs
• Performs electrical maintenance and repairs on traffic signal, street lighting, and battery back-up systems and equipment
• Makes recommendations to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness
• Utilizes computers to perform word processing and specialized functions including preparing and maintaining written and computerized records, reports, and spreadsheets
• Assists in the preparation of the section’s budget

The City of Orinda Planning Department seeks a strong customer-service oriented Planning Technician to primarily staff the Planning Counter and process code-enforcement cases.  Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also gain opportunities to assist with various current and long-range planning tasks.  This non-exempt position reports to the Director of Planning.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

This is an entry level position in the professional planning field.  Applicants must meet at least one of the following education/experience qualifications.

1. A four-year bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field

Primary duties of the Planning Technician include (but are not limited to):

• Assist with data collection, analyze data using a variety of data sources, including GIS.

• Maintain and update GIS mapping system and other databases, create charts and maps as requested.
• Process code enforcement cases.
• Coordinate and conduct follow-up abatement procedures, including preparing correspondence, and property owner site visits. Conduct code and ordinance research for compliance. Receive, track/monitor and investigate public staff municipal codes and ordinances, standards, health and safety and other complaints.
• Conduct review of discretionary planning applications for design review, exceptions, tree removal, and other related requests.
• Serve as the City’s staff liaison to various groups (i.e., Orinda Historical Society)
  Basic mathematical principles.

• Proficiency in GIS mapping.
• English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
• Working knowledge of modern office equipment and procedures, including the use of a variety of software applications.

THE POSITION:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Secretary position in the City Clerk's Office will be a highly organized and detail-oriented individual, capable of handling a wide range of administrative and clerical duties. They should possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to efficiently interact with members of the public, City officials, and other departments. Strong proficiency in office software, including word processing and spreadsheets, is essential for this role. The candidate will also need to demonstrate a deep understanding of record-keeping and be able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information. Familiarity with the City's legislative process, Municipal Code, and Public Records Act is a plus. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be a proactive problem solver, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Senior Secretary position is a City-wide classification utilized in many departments. The current vacancy is in the City Clerk's Office; however, this list will also be used as vacancies open in other City departments.

What you will do: 
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Relieve supervisor or other department staff of administrative support service functions; utilize independent judgement and initiative.
• Act as interdepartmental liaison relating to administrative or project support functions for the office and for compliance with city regulations and practices relating to those functions.
• Perform administrative clerical duties related to area of assignment such as rent review, automated inventory systems or plan review.
• Interpret, apply and explain polices and procedures related to area of assignment; determine eligibility of participation by individuals requesting services related to area of assignment.
