Description

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Solid Waste Supervisor in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Zero Waste Operations Manager and the Solid Waste Supervisor(s) on a daily basis to ensure that all operations are carried out safely and in compliance with environmental obligations. In addition, this role oversees the onboarding and recurring training programs for Solid Waste Workers and Drivers; interacts with the Division Manager to implement initiatives, policies, and procedures; and works closely to resolve customer service issues that arise at the council level.

The Senior Solid Waste Supervisor also works closely with peers across all operations to ensure consistent safety and operational standards and performance. Furthermore, this position leads the implementation of new routing and customer data management systems, participates in equipment purchase committees, and determines the staffing and resources needed to achieve desired operational goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible journey level experience in integrated solid waste collection, diversion and disposal which included two (2) years at the level equivalent to the Solid Waste Supervisor class.

Other requirements include possession of a valid class "C" California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Candidates must be willing to work evening, early morning, holidays, and weekend shifts. Candidates must report changes in status of driver’s license.
