Description

The City of Dixon is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time position of Transit Driver/Dispatcher and to establish an eligibility list for future use.  

This position drives a Readi-Ride General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) on a demand responsive curb-to-curb transit system and assist patrons boarding and leaving the bus, especially the elderly, disabled, and school age children. May also assist in collecting information relating to the operation of the system; receive ride requests and organize the vehicle pick-ups and drop-offs; and, will work closely with the drivers and Transit Supervisor to ensure coordinated efforts.

Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in an interview process (weighted 100%). The most qualified candidates from this process will be placed on an employment eligibility list. Note: the examination process may be changed as deemed necessary. Employment Processing: Those selected are subject to a 12-month probation period, and may be subject to pre-employment drug testing and fingerprinting. In accordance with Federal law, an employee must provide proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States.

Veteran's Preference Points: Veteran's Preference points will be applied. A PDF copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.

Ideal Candidate

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of principles of effective customer service; modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment; geographic layout of the City; principles and practices of safe motor vehicle operations; the transport of passengers; basic arithmetic; methods of basic maintenance and emergency repair; departmental procedures.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle; perform basic and emergency repairs; communicate with the public in an effective professional manner; receive and relay information accurately; maintain accurate records; make basic mathematical calculations; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; maintain physical ability to assist passengers boarding and leaving the bus; maintain order among passengers; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course work; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.

EXPERIENCE:

Satisfactory completion of the City of Dixon Driver Trainee on-the-job training program.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B Driver's License with passenger endorsement and a California Highway Patrol General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) Certificate within 90 days of appointment.

Satisfactory completion of a DMV medical exam including drug screen is a condition of employment.

Must submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

Must submit to fingerprinting process.

The ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.

CalPERS TIER DEFINITIONS MOU INTERPRETATION OF CALPERS TIERS

CalPERS Annuitants will be limited to only 960 hours in a fiscal year and this position is full-time.

Retirement:                          
CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members).  The City does not participate in social security

Medical:                                
CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs.  City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance.  Maximum Family Medical Benefit Allowance (2024): $1,859 per month

Bilingual Pay:                      
$100 per month upon certification
