Description

The Department

The Public Works Department plays a key role in shaping the community and its future as Fremont. Public Works is responsible for engineering, transportation, civic facilities, inspections, and maintenance for the City. The Engineering Division within Public Works helps deliver land development projects, executes the design and construction of public projects, and maintains and enhances the City’s transportation network.

The Position

The Facilities Design and Construction Project Supervisor I/II will be a member of the Public Works Department and reports to the Facilities and Real Property Manager. Public Works is responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of city infrastructure and design and construction of new or improved public facilities. Key responsibilities of the Facilities Design and Construction Project Supervisor I/II include project management, liaison, inspection, and contract administration for the design, construction, and modification of over 150 City buildings and structures.

 

Ideal Candidate

The City is searching for a self-motivated individual, with strong project management background. Knowledge and proficiency in use of autoCAD for building design is highly desirable. In addition, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following knowledge and abilities:

All levels:

  • Knowledge of: principles and practices of architecture, including architectural plans, details and standards; principles and practices of civil, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering as applied to architectural design and construction; modern construction methods and practices of facilities projects; applicable California codes, laws and regulations pertaining to public building projects.
  • Ability to: analyze departmental needs relating to routine facilities design and construction projects and prepare project scope, budgets and schedules; coordinate the planning and program administration of routine or smaller size facilities design and construction projects; prepare accurate plans and specifications; effectively communicate in oral and written form; prepare project reports and correspondence; develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships; work in a standard office setting with extensive use of written documents, computers and telephone; travel throughout the City on improved and unimproved terrain to inspect sites; use computer software including AutoCAD, Excel, Word, MS Project and Expedition.

Project Supervisor II

  • Knowledge of: management principles and techniques in planning, program administration, design and construction of building projects; methods and practices of budget and schedule preparation and management; contract negotiating methods and techniques.
  • Ability to: analyze departmental needs relating to moderate size facilities design and construction projects, and prepare project scope, budgets and schedules; coordinate the planning and program administration of moderate size facilities design and construction projects; prepare accurate cost estimates; investigate, research and evaluate a wide spectrum of technical problems and develop alternate solutions; provide guidance, advice and assistance to registered professional consultants involving the approach to and the development and execution of design solutions; negotiate contracts for consultant services.
