This Sr. Facilities Repair Worker position will be stationed at Central Service Yard and travel to various sites across San Jose , with an emphasis on the City of San J ose's interim housing communities . In addition to the typical duties of a Sr. Facilities Repair Worker, the successful candidate will interact a n d compassionately communicate with interim housing tenants and pe ople in vulnerable housing situations . The position requires flexibility and adaptability to : respond to afterhours alarms , navigate exposure to situations and issues surrounding unhoused, and make decisions in stressful or ambiguous situations. The position may also oversee other Facility Repairs Workers in their day-to-day tasks and special projects. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Leads, repairs, and maintains water faucets, urinal valves, commode valves, shower heads, minor pipe leaks, and various other water control valves.
• Leads and performs minor repair on buildings caused by vandalism and normal wear, including patching, full area painting and spot painting, floor tile repair and replacement, glass replacement, door adjustments, wall panel replacement, and wood trim replacement.
• Leads and performs minor repairs and maintains PTA C AC units .
• Leads, repairs, and maintains equipment, including generators and power tools.

• Schedules and manages contractor activities and reviews and approves payments.
• Prepares work orders for major repair and alterations and monitors progress and completion of projects.
• Prepares reports on materials, labor, and cost on damage caused by users in order to recover cost.
• Maintains records of repair equipment.
• Maintains records of work and projects in a work order system database.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. The incumbents will be assigned to oversee various subdivisions such as Streets, Streams, Storm Drains, Street Lighting, and Motor Pool programs.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

The Public Works Department is recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Superintendent, who, under general direction from the Operations & Maintenance Manager, will oversee the operations and maintenance activities of the Facilities, Streets, Parks, and Vehicle Maintenance divisions. THE POSITION:

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to operations and maintenance staff, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing feedback and coaching.

• Develop and implement asset management strategies to optimize the lifecycle of infrastructure assets and maximize return on investment.
• Prepare reports and presentations on asset performance, budget projections, and recommendations for capital improvements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, codes, and standards governing public works operations and maintenance activities.
• Coordinate safety program for department staff ensuring proper training and protocol.
• Obtain necessary permits, licenses, and approvals for maintenance projects and activities, and ensure timely renewal and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for information from the public, elected officials, and regulatory agencies regarding operations and maintenance issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.  A typical way to obtain these would be:

• Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented with training/education in supervisory principles.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in streets maintenance and repair, parks maintenance, facilities maintenance and/or vehicle maintenance, including a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
• Training/experience in database management and/or experience using database systems is highly desirable.
• Valid California Driver’s License

Glenn County is recruiting individuals to fill three full time and multiple Part Time/ Extra Help positions in the Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II/III position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges, and other related structures, and in various traffic control maintenance and  repair activities of the Public Works Agency; operates a variety of construction, maintenance and transportation equipment as necessary to complete daily tasks at the Glenn County Public Works Agency. THE POSITION

The City of Dublin is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of PLANS EXAMINER I/II to perform detailed, comprehensive technical reviews of residential and commercial permit applications and building plans.  The incumbent performs a full range of plans examination duties to ensure projects and structures are in compliance with laws, ordinances, codes and regulations before permits are issued.  The position serves as a resource to the City’s Permit Technicians who determine required plans and resolve problems regarding plan submissions and sufficiency. 

The PLANS EXAMINER I position is distinguished from the PLANS EXAMINER II level in that the PLANS EXAMINER II performs more complex technical reviews of commercial plan checks, structural reviews; and performs supervisory authority over assigned staff, including directing and training.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The following key elements describe the basic duties and responsibilities of the position:

PLANS EXAMINER I:

• Perform plan checks for residential alterations, room additions and tenant improvements.  Reviews building construction plans for compliance with building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes. 
• Confer with homeowners, builders, engineers and architects to provide and obtain information and interpret building codes and regulations; recommend necessary changes to obtain compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Provides input and assists in the establishment and/or improvement of Division’s procedures and policies;
• Verifies that permit application and plans meet the minimum requirement of all applicable codes, state and local regulations.
• May perform routine building inspection assignments in support of inspection staff.
• Prepare correspondence to architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners relating to the correction of plans and details.  Communicates verbally, in writing, by e-mail and by telephone with the general public, other City employees, contractors in order to explain and administer the various building codes.

PLANS EXAMINER II (In addition to the above):

• Reviews building construction plans for compliance with structural design requirements and building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes.  Examples of reviews can include: residential additions, complex tenant improvements, HVAC roof top equipment, monument signs, etc.
• Handle the full-range of plan check duties including screening and preliminary review, and is responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgement and public relations skills. 
• May assume the responsibility for supervision of plan check and permitting functions in the absence of the Plan Check Engineer.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the Division’s policies.
• As assigned, perform on-site inspections as follow-up to plan activities.
• Resolve disputes between the City and designers.
• Attends and represents the Building & Safety Division at Pre-Development and other meetings.
• Evaluate the written qualifications of Special Inspection firms for inclusion into the City’s list of pre-qualified special inspections firms.

The City of Patterson is seeking to fill one (1) part-time vacancy for a Facility Attendant in the Recreation Department and to establish an eligibility list.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under direct supervision, performs a variety of facility related tasks to ensure effective operations at the Recreation and Community Services Complex and related facilities and parks. Prepares facilities for use; works with users during events; provides set-up and arrangements for classes, meetings, and public and private events; registers participants for recreational programs; assists with cleaning and maintaining of Community Services' facilities including removing and disposing of trash, sweeping, and mopping of floors.  Provides staff support for recreation events and programs.

Maintenance Trainee – Is an entry-level trainee position. Incumbents learn to perform the full scope of duties of the Maintenance I class. This class is alternately staffed with Maintenance I and incumbents may advance to the higher-level class after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

• Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain City parks and trail system to ensure facilities are safe and usable; inspect, clean, and stock park restrooms; remove refuse from City garbage cans.

The Maintenance I role stands apart from Maintenance II, the lead-level in the series, as Maintenance II holds responsibility for overseeing the tasks performed by a crew engaged in parks and grounds maintenance.

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Building Inspector to work in our Community Development Department.  Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector I/II inspects buildings, reviews plans and specifications in the enforcement of laws regulating the construction of buildings in the City of San Rafael, issues building permits and collects fees. 

Building Inspector I:  This class performs the more routine tasks and duties including inspections of residential construction and less complex commercial and industrial properties.  This class is typically used as an entry-level class.  Employees in this class may have limited or no directly related work experience.

Building Inspector II:  This class performs the full range of duties as assigned including all types, sizes and complexities of commercial, industrial and residential construction, including accessibility compliance.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  Positions in this class shift away from office and group fieldwork to more defined, independent work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This list is intended to be illustrative and does not represent an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities.  Incumbents may not perform all duties and responsibilities listed.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Issues building permits at the front counter.
• Review plans for completeness and accuracy before issuing permits.
• Makes inspections in the field of building construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, Green Building, and energy, in residential, commercial, industrial, and public buildings.
• Conducts final inspections in the field of completed buildings giving approval to acceptable standards.
• Investigates complaints of building code or County code violations and issues “Stop Work” orders or “Notice of Violation” in situations of non-compliance.
• Coordinates inspection and investigation activities with other departments and external agencies as required. 
• Tours City checking structures for compliance with building codes.
• Provides information to the public regarding requirements.
• Explains code or ordinance requirements to City personnel, builders, architects, contractors, and the public.
• Maintains files and reports concerning inspection activities and findings.
• Prepares written reports and notices pertaining to code violations.
• Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO:

• Federal, State and Municipal Codes, ordinances and regulations relating to building plumbing, electrical, mechanical, Green Building and energy.
• California Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, Green and Energy Codes.
• Principles, techniques of building inspection and engineering mathematics.
• Accepted safety standards and methods of construction.
• Accessibility requirements.
• Effectively read blueprints and construction drawings.
• Resolve disputes concerning code requirements and effect compliance.
• Use tact and good judgment effectively in dealing with people involved with building construction, particularly contractors, architects, developers, engineers, and r=property owners.
• Review construction plans and conduct field inspections of buildings, improvements, and site development projects.
• Analyze, interpret and accurately review building plans and specifications.

• Prepare clear and comprehensive written reports.
• Maintain cooperative working relationships with engineers, architects and contractors, officials, employees and the general public.
• Apply building related codes and ordinances, including the California Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, Green Building, Energy, Accessibility, and local zoning codes.

LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak to contractors, architects, homeowners, and other employees.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic geometry and algebra.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Building Inspector I:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited education institution.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, AND
• Two (2) years of responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or as a licensed general contractor.  A college degree in a construction-related subject or building inspection program may substitute for one year of the experience.

Building Inspector II:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited education institution.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, AND
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or as a licensed general contractor.  A college degree in a construction-related subject or building inspection program may substitute for one year of the experience, AND
• At least two (2) years must be in an inspection capacity equivalent to a Building Inspector I for a government agency.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS (SPECIAL REQUIREMENT):

• Ability to obtain a California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record; AND ONE of the following:

Building Inspector I:

• Must hold or obtain within one-year of hire an International Code Council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification and must maintain certification through the entire term of employment in this job classification. 

Building Inspector II:

• At time of hire/promotion into this classification, must hold an International Code council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification.  Within one (1) year of hire/promotion into this classification, must obtain one or more of the following ICC certifications:
  • P1 Residential Plumbing Inspector
  • M1 Residential Mechanical Inspector
  • E1 Residential Electrical Inspector
  • Or, the commercial equivalent.
• Must maintain both certifications through the entire term of employment in this job
  classification.
• Additional ICC certifications including RS Residential Combination Inspector or C5 Commercial Inspector and the California Accessibility Specialist (CASp) are highly desired.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and regularly works in inside environmental conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.  The nature of the work requires the individual to climb ladders or scaffolding in order to access and walk on rooftops.  A sense of balance is required to walk on pitched rooftops.  The job also requires the ability to access and enter cramped quarters such as crawl spaces located under homes, or spaces such as attic areas. Working within the crawl space may bring the Building Inspector into contact with reptiles, insects and/or rodents.  While conducting an inspection, it may require the incumbent to walk over rough, uneven, and rock surfaces.
