The Community Services Department's Urban Forestry Division administers the City’s Urban Forest Management Plan, Tree Permitting, Tree Ordinance Enforcement, 50-50 Programs, Tree Mitigation, Urban Forestry Grants, Tree Maintenance crews, and Tree Contracts. The Division’s primary functions are to promote, preserve, and grow a safe and healthy Urban Forest; Provide outstanding customer service and guidance on Urban Forestry Best Practices to both internal and external customers; To maintain the City’s Tree Inventory, respond to tree emergencies that occur within the right of way, qualify and certify an Approved Tree Contractor list; And, to provide public outreach, education, and support on tree planting and care to maximize the many benefits of the City’s Urban Forest.

Definition
This is a deep class series, which includes Landscape Architect/Landscape Designer I, Landscape Architect/Landscape Designer II, and Associate Landscape Architect/Urban Forester.  (At the I and II levels, incumbents who do not have professional licensure will use the classification title of Landscape Designer, and work under the direct supervision of the Senior Landscape Architect.) 
Under supervision, performs professional-level landscape architectural work related to the design, construction and rehabilitation of landscape and irrigation facilities for parks, landscaped areas and street and urban design projects; performs related work as required.

Class Characteristics

This is a deep classification series with multiple levels that are intended to provide recognition for a range of assignment variety and complexity, increasing professional/technical knowledge and skills, attainment of professional licensure, independence of decision-making and the impact of such decisions upon the long-term and short-term development and character of the City.  Incumbents may advance from the entry level to the full working level, based on operational need and assignment by management, as they learn City and departmental practices and procedures.  As knowledge and experience are gained, the work becomes broader in scope and assignments are more varied and are performed under more general supervision.  Advancement to each higher-level class requires gaining the knowledge, skill, experience and credentials that meet the qualifications for that class and demonstrating the ability to consistently perform the work of the higher-level class.

City Urban Forester is also a full-professional level class working at the Landscape Architect/Landscape Designer I, Landscape Architect/Landscape Designer II or Associate Landscape Architect level.  However, when placed in this assignment rather than being a registered Landscape Architect the incumbent would be required to be a Certified Arborist or maintain an American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA) membership.  This assignment is characterized by the responsibility to serve as lead staff person for City street tree and private tree permitting and Citywide resource for urban forestry and tree related issues including but not limited to, overseeing the health and wellness of the City urban forest; tree selection; and tree evaluation for hazard, disease and proper care.   Successful performance of the work requires an extensive professional background as well as skill in coordinating with other City departments and public agencies as well as dealing with property owners, developers, contractors, and the general public.

Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating high and low voltage/amperage electrical components, systems and equipment including locating problems; determining appropriate courses of action; and coordinating repairs with affected parties. They design, fabricate, and install electrical systems and components and install wiring and electrical equipment, ensuring code compliance. Electricians review work orders, maintain activity logs, prepare requisitions and obtain approval for various projects. Duties may also include purchasing electrical supplies, including filling out paperwork; coordinating purchases; and, choosing vendors. They are responsible for responding to occasional emergencies, evaluating and taking required actions and determining if support is needed.

Airport electricians are responsible for a wide range of equipment and systems in a 24/7/365 operation, including repair, installation, operation, and maintenance. Responsibilities may include airfield/airport specific systems and equipment such as series lighting circuits, constant current regulators, airfield lighting control systems, and airfield lights. In addition, responsibilities may include interior and exterior lighting fixtures (including high mast ramp lighting, street lighting, parking lot lighting, etc.), lighting control systems, building management systems, access control systems, fire alarm systems, power management systems, building distribution systems and equipment up to 12kv, motor control equipment, baggage handling systems, emergency generators, vehicle gate operators, pump stations and fiber optics. Shift schedules are based upon the needs and requirements of the Airport and may require rotation assignments or assignment to a specific shift. Weekend and holiday work may be required, and standby time may be required.

Public Works Department
Public Works electrician duties include: new construction, remodels, small tenant improvement projects, lighting retrofit projects, maintenance of pump stations (includes motor controls and PLC's and computerized alarm and monitoring of pumps, etc.), emergency generators, fire alarm systems, vehicle gate operators, badge access controls, lighting control systems, electrical building distribution systems and equipment up to and including 12kv, installing cat 5 and fiber optic networks and maintenance of all City buildings. They also set up temporary power for numerous special events on weekends and public address setups. PW provides standby Electricians 24/7. Depending upon assignment, Swing Shift, Graveyard Shift, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Department of Transportation
Department of Transportation electricians are responsible for the ongoing maintenance and improvements of San Jose's streetlight and traffic signal systems. The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for Extra Help-Cook within the Yuba County Jail. Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation. 

For successful performance, the incumbent would be required to have knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in high volume meal preparation in an institutional setting; basic food groups and nutritional values; safe work practices related to food preparation, storage and service; basic business arithmetic; and basic inventory and record keeping principles and practices. Skill in overseeing and preparing meals in a large scale, institutional setting; overseeing and training others in basic cooking and work procedures; operating, cleaning and performing minor maintenance to large institutional food preparation and cooking equipment; maintaining accurate records and preparing work related reports; directing others in work procedures; and reading, understanding and following recipes and oral and written directions. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff.   The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated.  The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. The Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) team of the Human Services Agency (HSA) of San Mateo County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II. The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The Department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support thousands of residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team strives to provide and AFS staff work together to provide a continuum of supportive services that range from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine (phone and email) that is answered in 4 language (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point. As an older adult or their caregiver’s situation changes, they seamlessly have access to a continuum of programs that include counseling and emotional support; care coordination and resource assistance; specialized family caregiver support and education. Many of these supportive services are provided in the resident’s home. We also provide regular expert clinical consultation, supervision, opportunities for self-reflection, and team building, fostering a culture of empathy, inclusivity, humility, and respect.

The Position

Under the supervision of the Age Well Center Managers, the Chef/Food Services Manager position manages meal programs for the City of Fremont’s Age Well Centers. Chef responsibilities across both Age Well Center locations include the performance of menu planning, purchasing of foodstuffs, preparing quantity meals, supervising and assisting kitchen employees and volunteers and maintaining clean and orderly kitchens.

The incumbent will be responsible for properly cooked, economical, and wholesome, well balanced meals in City operated Age Well Centers. This position is not limited to being responsible for the assignment of work, supervision and evaluation of paid and volunteer food service workers. The review and approval of proposed menus, food purchases, control and monitoring of expenditure rates; and institution of disciplinary actions are functions reserved for the Program Coordinator or Age Well Center Managers.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The City of San Bruno Community Services Department is seeking a Food Services Coordinator to coordinate the lunch program and assist in the planning, organizing, coordination, and administration of community recreation programs for age 50-plus adults. The position works under the supervision of a Recreation Services Supervisor.

This position will perform food service management, food preparation, cooking, menu planning following Aging and Adult Services (AAS) guidelines; kitchen sanitation procedures, and routine cleaning of the kitchen appliances; purchase necessary supplies from vendors, keep detailed records of expenses and meals served, maintain food and supply inventory list. The position will also assist senior center staff in the development, scheduling, and implementation of a variety of fun lunch time activities and programs, such as the “Variety Show” and “Spring-Time Fun.”

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual who can follow recipes, plan and organize menus; prepare food in large quantities and manage kitchen operations to meet a fixed preparation and serving schedule; calculate ingredients and prepare required food quantities with minimum waste; follow safety practices, sanitation requirements and health code rules; maintain a variable work schedule based on needs of program and community center; follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ideal candidate will also be able to safely operate kitchen tools and equipment, including proper use of knives, scissors, and other cooking tools; serve as an Emergency Disaster Worker and respond to other emergencies as needed; supervise and manage employees; demonstrate sound judgement, timeliness, initiative, and independence.

The Food Services Coordinator will possess the following:

• Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) Degree from a two-year college or university with a degree in hospitality management, culinary arts, institutional food preparation management, or a closely related field or Certificate in Culinary Arts from an accredited culinary school.
• One year experience in institutional food preparation management or related experience.
• Additional experience and training in institutional food preparation, community center use, nutrition, menu planning, and food preparation is desirable.
• Ability to obtain and maintain valid California State Driver’s License.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the following by the end of the probationary period:
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • California State certification in food safety (equivalent to the ServSafe Certificate).
