Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator I – Facilities is responsible for assisting with the smooth operation of activities, programs, rentals, and special events at multiple Recreation Facilities. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, and event planning and management expertise.

Mill Valley Recreation is a 7-day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator I - Facilities schedule may include weekday, weekend, early morning and evening shifts. Schedule is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Act as the primary point of contact for rental inquiries, promptly responding to emails, phone calls, and in-person inquiries regarding facility rentals.
• Facilitate the rental booking process by liaising with internal staff and external parties to schedule rental dates, coordinate setup requirements, and confirm rental agreements.
• Oversee the rental application process by providing interested parties with necessary documentation, rental agreements, and pricing details.
• Collect and review rental applications, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.
• Provide timely updates to both renters and internal stakeholders regarding rental status, payment deadlines, and any changes to rental arrangements.
• Maintain organized records of rental bookings, payments, and rental agreements, ensuring compliance with rental policies and procedures. 
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for facilities staff. 
• Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
• Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
• Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.

The Sheriff’s Activities League Executive Director plans, coordinates, recommends, develops, implements and evaluates goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to youth programs; provides leadership and coordination to community groups, public and private agencies, advisory boards and volunteers in planning and implementing programs; provides highly complex staff support to senior level management within assigned area of specialization. The Executive Director receives general direction from the assigned senior level manager and will exercise direct and indirect supervision over managerial, professional, technical and clerical staff, including consultants, and contract service providers.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess any combination of the following education and experience:

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management or a related field; or
• A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, child development, or a related field.
• Four to six years of progressively responsible administration or management experience in a Police/Sheriff Activities League or similar non-profit community service organization which includes experience working with a volunteer board.

As the Executive Director, your responsibilities will include:

• Planning, directing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of comprehensive county-wide services and programs, including needs assessment, program design and planning, implementation, evaluation, and regulatory enforcement.
• Directing, coordinating, and participating in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities that balance both mandated services and community needs.

• Consulting with other program managers on relevant program issues; developing alternative strategies for addressing community needs related to youth and assisting in the implementation of solutions as necessary.
• Conducting or participating in negotiating contracts with outside vendors, consultants, or organizations; monitoring and evaluating the fiscal and legal liability of such contracts.
• Acting as an advocate and spokesperson in the community in support of SAL and its mission.
• Preparing, administering, and monitoring the program budget to ensure the accomplishment of program and service objectives within budget constraints.

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

The salary range for this classification is $47,982.48 - $58,422.00 annually.

This position is covered under the Pay Floor Policy and hourly rates will be adjusted to a minimum of $26.66 hourly for benefitted positions. Community Services Division: Safe + Clean + Engaged Neighborhoods

Empower and support residents, schools, and local organizations to make the City more livable, safe, and clean.

Project Hope is a neighborhood engagement and empowerment initiative focused on nine neighborhoods in San Jose. Organized into operational teams, Project Hope staff are assigned to specific neighborhoods, where they assist residents to address the conditions and circumstances that exist due to systemic racism such as crime/violence, blight, lack of trust, marginalization, and inadequate services. Project Hope supports residents to create new neighborhood associations or reinvigorate existing ones, develop the organizational and capacity building skills to better utilize and reach key City, and other public/private resources to address ongoing quality-of-life issues.

Community Activity Workers in Project Hope build strong relationships with residents, partners and community; assist neighborhood associations/board members with planning for meetings and events; inform residents of City services; assist neighborhood associations in building strong relationships with City of San José departments and other local government agencies, and; provide in-service trainings and workshops for community leaders to ensure self-sustainability of the neighborhood associations. ?Applicants should enjoy spending time in the community directly engaging with residents (e.g. canvassing, door-to-door outreach & surveying), planning and attending community events, bringing people together for positive results, and teaching residents how to engage with City and other public/private partners to address neighborhood/community issues.

Job duties for Community Activity Workers in Project Hope include, but are not limited to:

• Providing support to Community Coordinator in resident engagement efforts of three Project Hope sites
• Working some weekend and/or evening schedules per the program schedule
• Developing and presenting written materials and making public presentations to inform people about programs and encourage participation.
• Providing assistance to board members to increase the capacity of neighborhood associations achieving self-sustainability.
• Participating in planning and coordinating in-service training and development of program aids and materials.
• Performing public contact and liaison work in explaining and interpreting the Project Hope program.
• Preparing and monitoring budget and timesheets for the program and in support of neighborhood associations.
• Preparing monthly reports and correspondence and assisting community groups in grant writing.
• Coordinating with governmental agencies, local businesses, community-based organizations, County partners and City departments.
• Surveying targeted neighborhoods needs via methods including telephone, surveys, knock-and-talks or door-to-door canvassing.
• Providing information to residents on accessing City services or other service providers.
• Assisting in planning and implementing special activities or programs, such as community service or community empowerment projects, community meetings, community/graffiti clean-ups, tree-planting, tutoring, or sports activities for and with neighborhood associations.
• Rendering first aid in case of injury; watching for the safety of participants and spectators.
• Designing and producing flyers and announcements.
• May be required to provide bilingual translation, both orally and in writing.

The General Manager plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the overall administrative activities of the District; advises and assists the Board; and represents the District’s interests at local, regional, State and Federal levels.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in engineering, business, public administration or a closely related field; a Master’s Degree is desirable. Five years of professional experience at a senior-executive level in municipal utility systems, ideally with knowledge of wastewater maintenance systems and progressive responsibility in administration and operation of wastewater systems.
