The Thousand Oaks Library is in search of a Library Assistant who will be a key player in the Technical Services of the Access Services Division. This role offers a unique opportunity to perform a diverse range of library-related clerical duties, from ordering and invoicing to cataloging and processing. Primary Responsibilities:

• Instruct, coordinate, and schedule Library Pages or volunteers on library procedures; assist with scheduling and overseeing activities. 
• Participates in overseeing the day-to-day operations and services of Technical Services from acquisitions, receiving, and invoicing to cataloging and processing. 
  • Acquisitions: place orders with vendors, ensure orders are received physically and in Sierra, the Library Services Platform; resolve damaged items issues; manage canceled titles; find alternate vendors to fulfill the order. Liaise between vendors and staff to meet the needs of the library. 
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks to ensure invoices accurately reflect goods received; post weekly to update the Fund Report in the integrated library system. 
  • Perform copy cataloging of physical materials, including books, DVDs, or Spoken Word, following existing procedures based on industry-established cataloging standards to update bibliographic records. 
• Ability to interpret general library policies and procedures and apply knowledge using sound judgment 
  • Establish, maintain, and update accurate records and files  
• Technical knowledge 
  • Learn and apply technical expertise in the cataloging utilities, MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library’s  
  • Learn and effectively utilize various computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library Services Platform

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager, does skilled mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment in the Water and Wastewater systems; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Installs, replaces and repairs pumps, motors, generators, and auxiliary equipment; levels and aligns equipment to prevent vibration; installs and connects instruments, gauges, tubing, pipes, instrument panels, switches and valves; dismantles pumps, compressors, motors and generators for inspection of worn or broken parts and makes appropriate adjustments, replacements and repairs; keeps written and computerized records of repairs and maintenance services performed; furnishes Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager with information for parts and inventory control; assists operators and maintenance personnel in the general maintenance of equipment and facilities of the Department of Water and Wastewater Resources; may be required to work under adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:           The installation, operation and repair of pumps, compressors, motors, generators and related equipment; mechanical ability and skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment; use of welding equipment and cutting torch; knowledge of pipe and pipe fitting installations; use of appropriate safety equipment and tools and principles of safety and accident prevention.

Ability to:       Safely diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical defects; read, understand and work from blueprints, diagrams and installation sketches; understand and follow written and oral directions; prepare reports and keep accurate records; learn and efficiently use the Department's computerized maintenance information system; instruct others in maintenance and repair of the Department's equipment and facilities; perform heavy manual labor involving lifting, carrying, kneeling, crawling and climbing; work in adverse conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases, contact with water and/or wastewater, and risk of bodily injury; maintain different tools and equipment in the fresh water and wastewater systems; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education:     Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience:    Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and/or mechanical equipment.

Physical Requirements:       Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required, including sustained walking, standing, bending, climbing and lifting.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

THE POSITION:
This benefitted, full-time position in the Cataloging Department performs original and derived cataloging for materials in all formats and languages; creates metadata for special collections materials; creates and updates authority records; compiles and reviews records for monthly authority control processing; interprets cataloging policies to staff; and serves as back-up for all copy cataloging tasks and other related duties in the Cataloging Department as needed. The position reports to the Librarian III in the Cataloging Department of the Collection Services Division, located at the Rohnert Park Headquarters.

TYPICAL DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

• Performing original and derived cataloging for special collections materials in all formats, local government documents, local author books; local musician/musical group sound recordings; world language materials and other materials in the circulating/reference collections lacking records; assigns Dewey classification numbers
• Researching names, birth dates, street names, etc. in the Library catalog and other databases to create and update authority records and digital projects metadata
• Entering metadata for photos, archival collections and other special collections materials into Excel spreadsheets
• Loading new records and correcting existing records in the Library’s integrated library system (Horizon), digital asset management system (Quartex), archives system (ArchivesSpace) or other platforms
• Compiling information on new records from a series of monthly reports; investigating problems such as missing or malformed call numbers; and searching WorldCat via OCLC Connexion for replacement records
• Preparing and exporting monthly batches of new bibliographic records to Marcive, Inc. for authority processing; retrieving, importing and troubleshooting processed files 
• Managing retrieval of vendor-provided shelf-ready MARC files via FTP, importing files into Horizon and trouble-shooting problems
• Participating in maintenance and enhancements to the public catalog

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with OCLC Connexion, Horizon, Quartex, ArchivesSpace or similar systems
• Knowledge of metadata standards, digital asset management systems
• Multilingual (Spanish especially helpful)
• Basic programming/scripting/Regular Expressions knowledge helpful

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

• Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented with training/education in supervisory principles.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in streets maintenance and repair, parks maintenance, facilities maintenance and/or vehicle maintenance, including a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
• Training/experience in database management and/or experience using database systems is highly desirable.
• Ability to converse in Spanish is preferable
• Valid California Driver’s License

• Oversee the upfitting process for first responder vehicles, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and technology to support emergency operations.
• Support maintenance of the Department's asset management software to track vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules and inventory.

Working in the Public Works Department, the Maintenance Worker I/II will perform a variety of unskilled, semiskilled and skilled light and heavy duty construction, maintenance and repair work involving public works, sewer and drainage systems, buildings, parking meters, and other facilities.

The position will be filled as a Maintenance Worker I/II based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate.

SALARY RANGE:
Maintenance Worker I/II – $3,350.50 to $4,485.52 per month (wages effective 7/1/2024 per MOU).

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Maintenance Worker I:  This is the entry level class in the maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks. Although trucks and other motorized equipment may be operated by a Maintenance Worker I, the equipment is used on a training basis or for tasks which are repetitious in nature. Under this training concept, positions assigned to the class of Maintenance Worker II which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Maintenance Worker I level, with the understanding that reassignment to the Maintenance Worker II class may be expected following successful job performance and personal development.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level in the maintenance worker series. Positions assigned to this class are expected to perform semi‑skilled and skilled public works maintenance activities and to operate light and moderately heavy power‑driven equipment on a continuing basis. All positions allocated to this class require that an incumbent be able to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative to fulfill assigned tasks. Maintenance Workers II may also be expected to assist in the supervision and training of less experienced personnel.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Perform a variety of maintenance work in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, parks, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, parking meters and other public facilities.
• Operate power‑driven equipment such as skip loaders, dump trucks, water trucks and fork lifts.
• Break out old concrete work such as curbs, sidewalks, and gutters.
• Cut and prepare streets for patches, spread premix and oil, and rake asphalt.
• Replace, repair, couple, test, and backfill sewer lines.
• Clean and maintain basic tools used on the job.
• Paint traffic directional markings, such as crosswalks and safety loading zones.
• Fabricate, install, repair and replace street signs.
• Operate heavy power‑driven equipment on a relief or training basis.
• Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize grass and other landscaped areas.
• Rake leaves, clean walks, fields, courts, and other facilities.
• Spade and otherwise prepare ground around plants and shrubs, including mixing and applying fertilizers.
• Plant, trim and/or remove trees, flowers, and shrubs. 
• Load trimmings on trucks for disposal.
• Pick up rubbish and litter materials and perform general grounds cleaning.
• Operate power mowers, edgers, sewer rodders, and other hand-operated and power tools in the performance of maintenance and repair activities.
• Drive vehicles as required and assist in routine care and upkeep of such vehicles.
• Assist in moving and installing park and recreational equipment.
• Install, maintain, and repair sewer system mains, sprinkler systems, pipes and facilities.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair parking meter devices.
