Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment. 

Essential Responsibilities

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. Program Overview:

The Child Welfare Mental Health (CWMH) team serves children ages 6-17 years old and their families who have a voluntary or court-ordered open case with Children and Family Services (CFS). For all CFS referred youth, we administer the CANS, among other assessment tools. We interview the children, caregivers, and any relevant parties as part of this assessment process. Based on these assessments, we provide various therapeutic services (e.g., individual therapy, family therapy, dyadic therapy, psychiatric evaluations, etc.). We work in conjunction with pediatric nurses, doctors, and psychiatrists. When appropriate or upon CFS case closure, CWMH therapist transfers mental health services to other BHRS programs or to our network of community-based agencies/providers.

Position Description:

We are hiring a Bilingual Spanish-speaking clinician to provide assessments, brief crisis/stabilization, therapy, case management services, and treatment summaries to the court for children aged 6-17 years old. The ideal candidate will provide trauma-informed child abuse treatment and work closely with the foster care system.

Our clinicians carry an outpatient caseload and services are community-based. We can conduct therapy at our BHRS therapy offices, but mostly conduct therapy off-site (e.g., at the child’s school, homes, etc) based on what is convenient for the child/family. So, having a car to travel within San Mateo County is necessary to the work. It is important to note that for work-related travel, the candidate can choose to use county cars or if they decide to drive their vehicle, they can also get mileage reimbursement.

We serve residents of San Mateo County who are often of racial/ethnic minorities and low-income status. Our team consists of master’s level clinicians (licensed and unlicensed). Therapists have weekly individual supervision and a weekly clinical staff meeting where cases are discussed. There are ongoing training opportunities to learn skills in a wide variety of modalities (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT, NMT, etc.). The work that this team does is critical for the health and well-being of many children and youth in San Mateo County. Although the work often comes with the challenges connected to trauma, it also provides a rich and rewarding experience.

Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Definition
Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

The salary range for this classification is $47,982.48 - $58,422.00 annually.

This position is covered under the Pay Floor Policy and hourly rates will be adjusted to a minimum of $26.66 hourly for benefitted positions. The Pay Floor rate consists of a base amount and an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

Community Services Division: Safe + Clean + Engaged Neighborhoods

Empower and support residents, schools, and local organizations to make the City more livable, safe, and clean.

Project Hope is a neighborhood engagement and empowerment initiative focused on nine neighborhoods in San Jose. Organized into operational teams, Project Hope staff are assigned to specific neighborhoods, where they assist residents to address the conditions and circumstances that exist due to systemic racism such as crime/violence, blight, lack of trust, marginalization, and inadequate services. Project Hope supports residents to create new neighborhood associations or reinvigorate existing ones, develop the organizational and capacity building skills to better utilize and reach key City, and other public/private resources to address ongoing quality-of-life issues.

Community Activity Workers in Project Hope build strong relationships with residents, partners and community; assist neighborhood associations/board members with planning for meetings and events; inform residents of City services; assist neighborhood associations in building strong relationships with City of San José departments and other local government agencies, and; provide in-service trainings and workshops for community leaders to ensure self-sustainability of the neighborhood associations. ?Applicants should enjoy spending time in the community directly engaging with residents (e.g. canvassing, door-to-door outreach & surveying), planning and attending community events, bringing people together for positive results, and teaching residents how to engage with City and other public/private partners to address neighborhood/community issues.

Job duties for Community Activity Workers in Project Hope include, but are not limited to:

• Providing support to Community Coordinator in resident engagement efforts of three Project Hope sites
• Working some weekend and/or evening schedules per the program schedule
• Developing and presenting written materials and making public presentations to inform people about programs and encourage participation.
• Providing assistance to board members to increase the capacity of neighborhood associations achieving self-sustainability.
• Participating in planning and coordinating in-service training and development of program aids and materials.
• Performing public contact and liaison work in explaining and interpreting the Project Hope program.
• Preparing and monitoring budget and timesheets for the program and in support of neighborhood associations.
• Preparing monthly reports and correspondence and assisting community groups in grant writing.
• Coordinating with governmental agencies, local businesses, community-based organizations, County partners and City departments.
• Surveying targeted neighborhoods needs via methods including telephone, surveys, knock-and-talks or door-to-door canvassing.
• Providing information to residents on accessing City services or other service providers.
• Assisting in planning and implementing special activities or programs, such as community service or community empowerment projects, community meetings, community/graffiti clean-ups, tree-planting, tutoring, or sports activities for and with neighborhood associations.
• Rendering first aid in case of injury; watching for the safety of participants and spectators.
• Designing and producing flyers and announcements.
• May be required to provide bilingual translation, both orally and in writing.
