Job Description

Under general supervision, the Tool Room Mechanic and Custodian is responsible for keeping, issuing, receiving and repairing tools and equipment utilized by the Airport’s Custodial Services unit; preventing minor losses through the safeguarding of tools and equipment; and keeping records of items received, issued and on hand; performs related duties as required.

1. Inspects tools and trouble-shoot equipment used in the cleaning maintenance program at San Francisco International Airport 
2. Maintains and repairs tools and equipment including assembly, disassembly, cleaning, ordering new parts and reassembly, including electrical and mechanical equipment.
3. Performs safety checks on tools and equipment.
4. Checks on tools and equipment returned for defective parts; orders replacements of supplies and stock items as required.
5. Repairs/replaces hoses, belts, electric plugs and electrical extension cords, on/off switches and replacing equipment fuses.
6. Repairs/replaces various wheels, filters, squeegee assemblies and squeegees on equipment.
7. Maintains custodial equipment through assisting/training staff regarding regular maintenance of janitorial equipment.
8. Performs and maintains custodial preventive maintenance program.  
9. Provides data to update tool and equipment repair database.  
10. Provides input regarding necessary replacement cycles and inventory of necessary repair parts.
11. Works in cooperation with current vendors and other repair facilities with regard to repair of larger pieces of cleaning equipment.

Nature of work requires some physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; intermittent exposure to working conditions where minor injuries may occur.

The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Principal Staff Specialist in the Strategic Incentives Division (SI) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented position.

The Strategic Incentives Division supports the Air District’s mission by implementing incentive programs (grant programs) that achieve voluntary reductions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, primarily from on- and off-road vehicles and equipment that operate in the Air District’s jurisdiction. In 2023-2024, the SI Division is administering more than $90 million in new revenue to fund programs and projects that replace older diesel-fueled vehicles and equipment such as school and transit buses, marine vessels, locomotives, trucks, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, and other mobile equipment, with newer, cleaner alternatives, including zero-emission technologies, and install refueling/charging infrastructure that supports the accelerated adoption of zero-emissions vehicles and equipment. Other programs administered support the reduction of single-occupancy vehicle, provide cash and mobility options to residents for turning in their older vehicles, and provide grants to reduce pollution from woodburning devices. The Division develops programs to meet community identified strategies for reducing air quality disparities and that benefit the Bay Area’s most overburdened communities.

About you in the position

The Principal Staff Specialist (AB 617 role) in the SI Division will coordinate the division's efforts in bringing greater equity to grant programs through program development, collaboration with other divisions, and engagement with communities under the AB 617 program. With your in-depth knowledge of the Air District’s emission reduction grant programs, you will lead the division's participation in internal and external AB 617 engagement, including communicating the role of the division; analyzing, reporting, and presenting information about air quality improvement incentive programs and mobile sources, participating in community meetings, proposing and guiding discussions on incentive-related emission reduction strategies and actions, developing plans/programs to implement action, and soliciting feedback on strategy implementation. Examples of other tasks include preparing written materials related to grant programs, reports and plans; proposing recommendations for updates to current incentive programs; developing and supporting the development of new programs; assessing impacts of regulatory actions on mobile source categories; presenting to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders; and leading and training staff. This position will require working nights and weekends on occasion to attend community meetings and public events. Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years of professional analytical experience, including developing and administering programs. Some positions may require more specialized education, training, and experience. A graduate degree may substitute up to two years of the required experience. Desirable qualifications/skills Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt to the audience. Professionalism and good judgement in representing an agency/company with external stakeholders including the public, businesses, and other agencies. Training or experience working with and for the public and community groups to advance equity and environmental justice. Competency in managing time and responsibilities with little oversight and working efficiently. Reading and interpreting laws, policies, procedures, regulations, guidelines, maps, specifications, and other data. Bilingual proficiency in one or more languages commonly spoken in the San Francisco Bay Area. Interdisciplinary knowledge and/or learning agility with respect to state or other incentive programs, mobile sources of air pollution, zero-emission technology and infrastructure, heavy-duty equipment operations at Bay Area ports and other industrial hubs, and/or impacts of air quality regulatory actions on industry.

Plans Examiner I:              $46.85– $58.55 per hour ($8,121.69 – $10,150.25 per month)

JOB TYPE

THE POSITION

The City of Dublin is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of PLANS EXAMINER I/II to perform detailed, comprehensive technical reviews of residential and commercial permit applications and building plans.  The incumbent performs a full range of plans examination duties to ensure projects and structures are in compliance with laws, ordinances, codes and regulations before permits are issued.  The position serves as a resource to the City’s Permit Technicians who determine required plans and resolve problems regarding plan submissions and sufficiency. 

The PLANS EXAMINER I position is distinguished from the PLANS EXAMINER II level in that the PLANS EXAMINER II performs more complex technical reviews of commercial plan checks, structural reviews; and performs supervisory authority over assigned staff, including directing and training.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The following key elements describe the basic duties and responsibilities of the position:

PLANS EXAMINER I:

• Perform plan checks for residential alterations, room additions and tenant improvements.  Reviews building construction plans for compliance with building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes. 
• Confer with homeowners, builders, engineers and architects to provide and obtain information and interpret building codes and regulations; recommend necessary changes to obtain compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Provides input and assists in the establishment and/or improvement of Division’s procedures and policies;
• Verifies that permit application and plans meet the minimum requirement of all applicable codes, state and local regulations.
• May perform routine building inspection assignments in support of inspection staff.
• Prepare correspondence to architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners relating to the correction of plans and details.  Communicates verbally, in writing, by e-mail and by telephone with the general public, other City employees, contractors in order to explain and administer the various building codes.
• Properly interpret building codes, plans, specifications, and engineering calculations.  Regularly research code questions for interpretation.
• Review and perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate fees.
• Perform research, analysis and evaluation of site, architectural and related plans.
• Strong commitment to customer service and interactive team participations.
• Provide support to permit processing and public counter activities.

PLANS EXAMINER II (In addition to the above):

• Reviews building construction plans for compliance with structural design requirements and building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes.  Examples of reviews can include: residential additions, complex tenant improvements, HVAC roof top equipment, monument signs, etc.
• Handle the full-range of plan check duties including screening and preliminary review, and is responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgement and public relations skills. 
• May assume the responsibility for supervision of plan check and permitting functions in the absence of the Plan Check Engineer.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the Division’s policies.
• As assigned, perform on-site inspections as follow-up to plan activities.
• Resolve disputes between the City and designers.
• Attends and represents the Building & Safety Division at Pre-Development and other meetings.
• Evaluate the written qualifications of Special Inspection firms for inclusion into the City’s list of pre-qualified special inspections firms.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking to fill 16 full-time Maintenance Assistant positions.

The Maintenance Assistant total salary range is $24.74 to $31.56 hourly or $51,459.20 to $65,644.80 annually . The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Infrastructure Maintenance Division of DOT is looking to fill 16 full-time vacant positions. These positions perform work in the maintenance and repair of concrete, pavement, sewers, landscaping, traffic signs, and traffic markings. Duties include digging holes, trenches, and ditches. They also operate a wide range of hand, mechanical, and power tools, as well as a variety of light and heavy vehicles, trucks, and equipment relevant to work performed, ensuring compliance with safe working practices. Maintenance crews provide services seven days a week. Individuals in this classification may be required to work alternate work shifts, including grave and swing, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call.

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Building Inspector to work in our Community Development Department.  Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector I/II inspects buildings, reviews plans and specifications in the enforcement of laws regulating the construction of buildings in the City of San Rafael, issues building permits and collects fees. 

Building Inspector I:  This class performs the more routine tasks and duties including inspections of residential construction and less complex commercial and industrial properties.  This class is typically used as an entry-level class.  Employees in this class may have limited or no directly related work experience.

Building Inspector II:  This class performs the full range of duties as assigned including all types, sizes and complexities of commercial, industrial and residential construction, including accessibility compliance.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  Positions in this class shift away from office and group fieldwork to more defined, independent work.

• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or as a licensed general contractor.  A college degree in a construction-related subject or building inspection program may substitute for one year of the experience, AND
• At least two (2) years must be in an inspection capacity equivalent to a Building Inspector I for a government agency.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS (SPECIAL REQUIREMENT):

• Ability to obtain a California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record; AND ONE of the following:

Building Inspector I:

• Must hold or obtain within one-year of hire an International Code Council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification and must maintain certification through the entire term of employment in this job classification. 

Building Inspector II:

• At time of hire/promotion into this classification, must hold an International Code council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification.  Within one (1) year of hire/promotion into this classification, must obtain one or more of the following ICC certifications:
  • P1 Residential Plumbing Inspector
  • M1 Residential Mechanical Inspector
  • E1 Residential Electrical Inspector
  • Or, the commercial equivalent.
• Must maintain both certifications through the entire term of employment in this job
  classification.
• Additional ICC certifications including RS Residential Combination Inspector or C5 Commercial Inspector and the California Accessibility Specialist (CASp) are highly desired.

We have an excellent opportunity in the Community Development Department for the position of Plan Check Assistant!

We are seeking a customer service-oriented individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The Plan Check Assistant performs a range of duties in reviewing and checking building construction plans (residential, commercial, and industrial) for compliance with all applicable State and City codes.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review construction plans for additions, alterations, repairs, and other projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances
• Respond to inquiries from, and provide information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, owners, and the general public regarding project status, plan checking, and other code code-related issues
• Provide assistance at the public service counter (over-the-counter plan checking, code questions, and permit issuance)
• Perform routine engineering analysis and calculations
• Approve over-the-counter plan revisions to issued permits

The position will receive a 2.5% base salary increase in July 2024.

THE POSITION

The City Attorney's Office seeks a well-qualified, motivated attorney for the position of Assistant City Attorney. This is an at-will position that serves as part of the City's executive management team. 

The Assistant City Attorney will provide legal advice, counsel, and representation to the City in areas including, but not limited to, land use, real estate, housing, and environmental law. Duties include drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, deeds, permits, licenses, and other legal documents, conducting research, interpreting and updating the City Municipal Code, and providing advice to City staff. 

The Assistant City Attorney will provide counsel to the Planning Commission, the Community Development Department, other City departments, and assist with the enforcement of City Municipal Code. The Assistant City Attorney receives general direction and supervision from the City Attorney and may provide oversight and supervision to support staff. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. The Building Official will assist in integrating the City’s vision, goals, and people strategy with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning, and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager. The Building Official must exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political acumen and an understanding of the needs of the community.

The City is experiencing a high volume of development applications, including residential, commercial, assisted living, and industrial projects. There is also significant interest in downtown revitalization. Some key initiatives on the horizon for the Building Official include:

• Implementation of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Specific Plan, which is a top-priority downtown revitalization project that includes mixed-use development and focuses on an attractive, dynamic, and pedestrian-oriented environment
• Participate in developing and implementing a comprehensive land management system
• Leading staff to be innovative, collaborative, develop expertise, excel in community outreach, promote continuous improvement, and continue moving forward in an enthusiastic and professional manner
• Shaping and positively influencing the Community Development Department environment by supporting a culture of collaboration and accountability
• Identification, development, and promotion of innovative strategies and technological solutions to maximize efficient service delivery
• Working across department lines to promote public service efficiencies
• Development and implementation of key performance metrics to measure operational effectiveness, identify areas of success and areas for improvement
• Planning and executing staffing and operational strategies to provide high-quality, cost-effective services to external and internal customers

Details:

• Full-time regular position, the schedule consists of a 4/10 typically working Tuesday through Friday.
• Salary range $21.34 to $27.26 hourly with Excellent Benefits (see below)

This position will receive a four percent (4%) cost of living increase effective April 2024.

• The new salary range effective April 2024, will be $22.19 - $28.35 hourly

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience: Two years of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work within the assigned area of responsibility.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Class A driver license within one year (Landscape or Streets) of employment. Some positions may require possession of, or ability to obtain, an Electrical Hazards Awareness certificate within one year of employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR and First Aid certifications within the first six months. Additional industry-specific certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
