The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications for the position of Neighborhood Preservation Officer.  This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. This position will be required to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of their 5 working days per week.

Under general supervision of the Inspection and Neighborhood Preservation Manager, the Neighborhood Preservation Officer seeks public compliance with Municipal Code sections, ordinances, and resolutions in such areas as planning, zoning, signs, community nuisance, business license, and related areas; and performs other duties as assigned. The incumbent will have a broad range of knowledge and independence within general parameters in the application of field investigations, evidence collection and violation resolution in the enforcement of municipal regulatory processes.

Examples of Duties Include:

• Investigates reported violations of municipal codes, ordinances, and resolutions
• Seeks abatement of violations through education and voluntary compliance or through direct enforcement activities including the issuance of infraction citations
• Educates the public regarding requirements
• Conducts field inspections to verify violations; and gathers supporting evidence
• Prepares reports regarding violations
• Prepares and gives presentations for Administrative Hearings, Planning Commission, City Council or courts of law
• Utilizes personal computers to perform word processing, spreadsheet, and specialized functions

 As a Park Services Officer Aide, you will:  

• Drive to different park locations and assist in the daily operations and maintenance of park facilities and grounds. 
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions.

The Ideal Candidate

Basic knowledge of park operations and maintenance is a plus but not required.

Work Schedule: This is a 20-24 hours per week position. The regular work schedule is Thursday and Friday; weekend work may be occasionally required. This position is limited to up to 1000 hours per year. However, employment might end sooner, depending on the needs of the hiring department. Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment. 

Essential Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Actively engage with the public to provide excellent customer service, anticipate customer needs and deliver services in a timely and respectful manner.
• Patrols parks or trails and other public recreational area.
• Provide information and direct visitors to appropriate park areas.
• Develop and participate in interpretive programs.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions.
• Interpret and apply oral or written material/instructions.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities; may make recommendations on relevant subjects such as modifications to equipment or facilities to reduce vandalism or improve safety.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce rules and regulations governing facilities. Issue warnings and code citations, directs traffic, enforce park rules as necessary.
• Assist ill or injured park visitors until proper medical aid arrives.
• Operate a motor vehicle or motorized maintenance equipment.
• Conduct light maintenance activities (e.g., repairing, making and installing signs, fences, etc.).
• Perform watering, weeding, pesticide applications, pruning, trash control and perform minor repairs and custodial maintenance.
• Operate light motorized equipment including, but not limited to, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, power mowers, sprayers and tractors. 
• May occasionally operate heavier and more complex equipment.
• Ensure compliance with park rules, codes and ordinances.
• Work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours.
• May direct the work of other employees on an intermittent or project basis.
• May direct the work of volunteer service organizations on an intermittent or project basis.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Education, Experience and Training
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and ability is qualifying.

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

Please note that schedules can vary every week or be on an "on call" basis depending on knowledge, training, and experience with specific animal routines. These positions will be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, during all climactic conditions as assigned and must have the ability to enter animal areas and perform physical work (including lifting objects up to 50 lbs.).

About the Position

Position is responsible for a wide variety of recreation activities, including supervising Youth Center gym rentals and scorekeeping for adult and youth sports leagues (softball, basketball, flag football soccer, bocce ball, kickball, corn hole). Responsibilities during scorekeeping will include head on site supervisor, set up and cleanup of facility or field, maintain score and game time. Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Program Coordinator as assigned.

Schedule will vary depending on sports season; mornings, nights, and weekends as scheduled. Monday-Friday between hours 5:00pm-10:30pm, and weekends as scheduled.

Essential Duties

• Works directly with the public.
• Serves as site or program supervisor.

About the Position

Positions in this classification perform work in the organization and implementation of a wide variety of recreation activities. 

The work schedule will be Monday-Thursday 4:00pm-9:00pm but may vary based on the needs of the City.

The Program Coordinator classification is the top-level position in the Recreation Leader Series.  Advancement from Recreation Leader Level II to Program Coordinator requires 500 hours of work experience at Recreation Leader Level II, or equivalent experience.

May provide functional supervision to a Recreation Leader I or II as assigned.  Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member.

A Dance Instructor (Program Specialist) will plan, prepare and instruct recreation activities. Activities may include art, cooking, dance, pre-school program and other program areas. Programs are designed for children ages 4-17 (primarily 5-12) years of age.

Dance programs may include ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, folkloric, salsa, and rhythmic international styles.

• Develop and submit lesson plans including class content and material needs.
• Lead organized activities to develop and strengthen youth academic, recreational, and social skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
• Different program areas will have different skills and knowledge requirements for the position; check with Recreation Supervisor. (For example: 6 ECE unites required for pre-school instructor)
• One school year teaching experience
• At least one year's experience working with children in an academic setting
• Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
