THE POSITION

Under general supervision, lead and conduct activities in the delivery of recreation program areas for the preschool program.

The Recreation Leader classification is distinguished from the Recreation Aide level in the complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, the amount of time spent performing the duties, the nature of the public contact made, and its training responsibilities of new staff. Positions at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

Work Schedule:
A typical work schedule is Monday - Friday 11:30 am - 3:00 pm - school days only; summer and school holidays off.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, oversee, and conduct recreational activities in program areas such as preschool, playground, parks, after school programming, teens, sports, museum, special events, and senior citizen activities.
• Conduct activities in areas such as arts and crafts, games, sports, music, drama, and nature study. Instruct participants in the rules and methods of playing indoor and outdoor games.
• Inspect activity areas and related equipment, make written reports of damage to equipment or facility and recommend maintenance and repair, as appropriate.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations; maintain orderly participant conduct.
• Provide minor first aid to recreation program participants/spectators and/or perform related first aid/emergency techniques.
• Exercise precautions necessary to ensure the safety of recreation program participants and spectators.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Open and close facilities as scheduled for use; clean up after facility users and set up for subsequent activities; secure the facility upon leaving.
• Set up furniture or equipment for activities scheduled and see that it is in proper condition and is replaced after use.
• Sweep and mop floors as required; keep restrooms and kitchen clean and well stocked with paper towels, tissues, etc.; empty trash receptacles throughout the facility as necessary.
• Responsible for monitoring adherence to building rules and party limitations. Maintain records and complete written program plans and reports.
• When work assignments are in public area of assigned facility, greet visitors, collect fees, have visitors sign guest book.
• Provide facility and exhibit orientations and/or tours including appropriate tour materials.
• Develop weekly lesson plans; plan and direct lessons, games, crafts and songs for after school and pre-school programs.
• Post City information as required and remove outdated and or unauthorized notices. Confirm reservations for specific permitted areas; resolve conflicts when appropriate.
• Make determinations and interpretations regarding reservations for specific permitted areas.
• Provide advice and information on park and recreation regulations to the public when requested and/or as needed; prepare incident reports and related documentation as needed.
• Train and oversee activities of part-time staff, as assigned.
• Ensure that activities operate in accordance with general department philosophy, objectives and guidelines.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

General Purpose:
This Recreation Aide position will be assigned to the Family Programs area assisting Recreation Leaders in providing support for the After-School Recreation program.
 
Supervision Received and Exercised:
Receive general supervision from a Recreation Coordinator and may receive technical and/or functional supervision from a Recreation Leader or Program Specialist.

• Notify appropriate City staff regarding necessary repair and/or replacement of play areas/related equipment.

THE POSITION

As part of the Parks and Community Services Department, the intern will broaden their knowledge of the operations involved in coordinating City-provided programs, facilities, and events. Some specific tasks include research and development of programs for the Dublin Arts Center, planning and implementing special events and summer camps, waterpark operations, and website management.

We are seeking a customer service driven professional with excellent communication skills to join our team as an Adult Literacy Associate. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals who are helping to change the literacy landscape in Sonoma County. This position is part of the Adult Literacy department located in the downtown Central Santa Rosa Library. Spanish/English bilingual skills are highly preferred.
 
THE POSITION:

Under direction of the Adult Services Administrator and the Supervising Literacy Program Coordinator, this position coordinates and administers tutor services for the Adult Literacy Services Program (ALS), recruits and provides orientations, training and in-service workshops to tutors for various adult literacy programs, and provides on-going coaching and support for tutors.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Organizes, conducts and evaluates orientations, trainings and in-service workshops for tutors of adult learners; organizes conversation classes and determines the schedule and use of the student computer. 
• Recruits, selects, supervises, supports and encourages tutors; plans and implements methods to both recruit and retain tutors.
• Provides tutors with all instructional resources and materials needed to work with the student and provides ongoing support to the tutor for the duration of their service.
• Plans and organizes events in support of the Sonoma County Library adult literacy programs; participates in public meetings.
• Plans and implements outreach methods for the recruitment of volunteer tutors such as providing information on our program to newspapers, radio stations (PSA), and sending mailers to service and business groups; follows-up on recruitment efforts.
• Maintains the literacy library with relevant materials for the ALS programs.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in education, public administration or related fields. Experience: A combination of education and experience that creates an understanding of adult illiteracy. Generally, this would be achieved by two (2) years of administrative or programmatic experience including one year of library or literacy experience.  Experience working with adults in an educational setting. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
 
SALARY RANGE:               $35.20/hour to $43.96/hour

DEFINITION

Develop, organize, and implement delivery of recreation and social services to the citizens of Danville in accordance with program objectives set forth by the Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing a variety of recreational, social and educational programs and services for youth, ages preschool through high school.  Work closely with the Town's Police Services Department, School District, community and human services agencies.  Motivate and facilitate various youth groups.

Specific to Sports & Fitness and Facility Management

Responsible for the development and implementation of sports programming, including aquatics, and organizing a variety of recreational sports leagues for youth and adults.  Work closely with the school district.  Supervises seasonal Aquatics program to include staff training and in-services. Requires a basic understanding of sports terminology, concepts, and rules. Responsible for sports & fitness fee classes offered in the Danville Activity Guide.  Support facility management through facility rentals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of recreation programming.
• Human development as it relates to planning recreation and leisure programs and activities for the public.
• Leadership, group dynamics, and facilitation concepts and techniques.
• Safety practices as related to the assigned program/activity area.

Ability to:

• Develop, implement and evaluate innovative programs effectively.
• Supervise and motivate participants, part-time personnel and volunteers.
• Communicate effectively with Town officials, the public, and the media.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Two (2) years full-time or four (4) years part-time related professional experience in public recreation or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Background in municipal parks and recreation is preferred.  Supervision of part-time and/or volunteer personnel is desirable.

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, public administration, or closely related field.

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire. First Aid and CPR certification is required but may be obtained during probationary period.
