THE POSITION

Assistant and Associate Engineering Technicians perform office and field engineering functions in connection with public works activities. The current vacancy is assigned to Construction Inspection and will perform field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection; and inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, streetlights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications. The Assistant Engineering Technician is the entry level classification in the series, and the Associate Engineering Technician is the journey level classification in the Engineering Technician series, with responsibility for more complicated technical tasks.

Examples of duties and responsibilities may include:

• Performs field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection
• Inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, street lights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications
• Maintains daily written records of progress made in construction and materials used
• Makes progress payments, writes change orders, and performs other contract administration duties on routine public works projects
• Assists contractors and the public in interpreting and complying with construction requirements
• Prepares monthly progress payment records
• Issues stop work orders when necessary
• Checks compliance of contractors with local, regional, state, and federal regulations including those governing wages and payroll
• Investigates and resolves citizen complaints regarding construction work on City facilities
• Enforces safety regulations

The County of Yuba is currently accepting Full-Time applications for the position of Office Assistant. The current vacancy exists in the Probation Department. Under close supervision, provides a limited range of administrative support for an assigned department, including tasks such as word processing, data entry, reception duties, scheduling, website updates, record maintenance, creating routine forms, memoranda, correspondence, reports, and operating office equipment as needed; and preforms related duties as assigned. Additionally, the individual in this role serves as the face of the department and must be willing to assist both the general public and County staff.

This position performs a variety of complex and specialized technical work in the Cooperative Extension Department as the primary administrative support for the 4-H youth development program. Assists in coordinating and implementing assigned program tasks and special events that require a thorough knowledge of the terminology, procedures, and practices, business letter writing and report preparation. Designs and presents general and technical correspondence, and promotional materials; designs and develops forms, tracking systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Supplies individuals with information, copies of documents and records, etc. The position is at-will, temporary, part-time and scheduled for twenty-four (24) hours per week. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Establishes files; maintains accurate and detailed records; verifies the accuracy of information; researches discrepancies and notifies appropriate personnel or agency.
• Word processes and proofreads a variety of documents; enters a variety of departmental data into the computer; retrieves information as needed; operates various printers.
• Compiles data for use in reports and/or managerial decision-making.
• Performs routine clerical duties as required, including but not limited to typing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, retrieving files, entering computer data, completing and processing various forms, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, assembling materials, faxing information, answering the telephone, greeting and assisting customers / clients, processing mail, etc.

This is a journey-level class in the Police Records Specialist classification series responsible for maintaining information in specialized departmental databases, preparing and assembling reports, processing payments, and preparing and processing subpoenas, requests for information, and other documents. All activities are performed within specified legal guidelines. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. We'll expect you to exercise considerable independence and discretion in conducting inspections, resolving complaints and enforcing inspection results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of full-time experience equivalent to Housing Inspector or Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Inspector for a public agency. 

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have effective and courteous communication skills in order to discuss housing violations, violation remedy and necessary inspections and fees and participate in depositions and court hearings as requested. The ideal candidate can support a work environment that highlights efficiency and team collaboration in a professional and friendly atmosphere for the inspectors and administrative staff.
