THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for a per diem laboratory analyst to perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water and wastewater according to standard methods and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of college study with at least twenty semester units of chemistry, biology or related science. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science would also be qualifying.
• One (1) year of work experience in an analytical laboratory.
• Able to work independently with direction from senior laboratory analyst/ laboratory supervisor

• Following established procedures, perform physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses of water,

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

• Positions in this classification require one to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and stand for long periods of time.

• Must be able to adapt and work day, swing or graveyard shift.

  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently seeking one full-time Animal Care Technician.  Under general supervision, Animal Care Technicians assist in the daily maintenance, feeding and care of animals housed in the county’s animal care facility including those subject to quarantine, injured or ill; assist with euthanizations; provide information to the public regarding lost or stray animals; assist with licensing, pet adoptions and community volunteer programs; and perform related work as assigned.  This class is a working level class in the animal care series. 

Animal Care Services is a division of the Sheriff's Department.  Animal Care Services provides services for the unincorporated areas of Yuba County and is located in Olivehurst, California.  Animal Care Services care for lost animals, injured and abandon animals, and a provide variety of services that protect both citizens and animals. Most importantly, they keep lost pets safe and happy so they can be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family.

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. As a result of its proximity to neighboring jurisdictions, the employees of the Suisun City Police Department remain extremely busy as they address the needs of the community. The Emergency Dispatcher I/II position in the Sheriff’s Department performs a variety of difficult work in the provision of 24-hour-per-day, seven-days-per-week public safety emergency dispatch service, including all 911 communications. Emergency Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Emergency Dispatcher series.  It differs from Emergency Dispatcher II in that the II level is fully trained as a dispatcher and may provide training for the Dispatcher I. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Receives incoming calls from the public; determines type of assistance required, including law enforcement, fire or ambulance personnel, etc., and dispatches emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone communications to appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.
• Operates a law enforcement 911 communications network.
• Maintains radio communications with field personnel as necessary to relay messages and information, and to determine the location and safety of field personnel.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties as required, including but not limited to answering business telephones; processing and/or maintaining department records, including case files; compiling information and statistics for reports; preparing criminal history reports; entering/cancelling/retrieving data on computer; ordering supplies, copying and filing documents, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

 

You have:  

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:  

Experience:   Six (6) months experience involving customer contact and six months experience in handling animals.
 
Education:  Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) Grade or High School equivalency.

License:    Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary:  $6,538 to $8,468 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.
