Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Finance located in Boulder Creek, CA. The Director of Finance supervises, oversees and manages the activities and operations of the Finance Department including financial reporting, general accounting, purchasing, warehousing and inventory control; budget preparation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, debt administration, revenue management, administration of invested funds and performs other related duties as required.

• Applicable Federal, State, local, and district laws rules, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures relevant to the assigned area of responsibility;

Under general supervision of the Senior Automotive Equipment Specialist, typical duties of the Communications Installer include installing 2-way radios into a variety of vehicles, including but not limited to Police vehicles and motorcycles, Fire department apparatus and other city department vehicles.

Installations are to be industry accepted best practices including the selection of proper wire sizing based on electrical loading, equipment placement with emphasis on serviceability, proper wire routing, proper power distribution, antenna placement, and grounding/power return.

THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Public Works Manager, the Maintenance Worker I performs entry level unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities applied to the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and street maintenance.

 TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grounds Maintenance:  Operate mowers and other equipment and tools for purposes of cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and planting and transplanting flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees.
• Storm Prevention Maintenance:  Assist in cleaning ditches, culverts, and storm drains.
• Street Maintenance: Assist in repainting of pavement markings, basic pothole, and street repair; installation and repair of street signs and markers; mixing and application of Class III pesticide materials.
• Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance:  Assist in the care, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• General:  Contact residents concerning maintenance and service problems; refer complaints and requests to proper supervisory personnel. Assist supervisory personnel in preparing and maintaining proper records and logs. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS

The general knowledge of basic construction methods, materials and terminology, standard hand tools, light equipment, and light vehicles; general knowledge of basic safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools, light equipment, and vehicles; general knowledge of basic methods and practices involved in the care of shrubs, trees and flowers. Ability to learn technically complex construction and maintenance procedures in water systems, streets, parks and building maintenance; use hand and power tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under inclement weather conditions; work alone or with small groups.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving history.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Completion of high school or its equivalent, or completion of a trade or vocational school.  Some directly related experience is desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Monthly Salary: $4,855 to $6,269 per month. Placement within the range will be based upon the selected candidate’s experience and salary history.
• Health/Medical Benefit: Health/Medical Benefit: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position should have previous Road Maintenance experience; sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, arrive on time, have good attendance, a positive attitude, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and a willingness to take on and learn new skills. Possessing a Class B commercial Driver’s license is desired, though not required upon hire. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, rubber-tired and steel rollers, rubber-tired tractor with all attachments (except backhoe attachment), striping equipment, and trencher in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.  Use concrete cutting equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Paint and install traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck; manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Install and remove traffic control barricades and cones.  Assist in a variety of tree maintenance activities including low limb, stump routing, tree watering, and tree planting.  Utilize proper safety precautions and comply with policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquiries from the general public.  Clean storm grates and drains.  Perform work in emergency situations as required.  Perform minor and preventive maintenance on paint spraying equipment, compressors, sprayers, compactors, and other construction equipment.  Work cooperatively with others.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of work experience in construction or related field.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.  Class B permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three months of hire.  A valid Class B California driver's license, Completion of Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR Certifications required prior to permanent appointment.

What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.

We are seeking a collaborative and results-oriented Purchasing Supervisor with excellent communication, strong technical experience, and effective leadership skills to join our Finance Department team. The Purchasing Supervisor manages the Purchasing and Municipal Services Center (MSC) warehouse functions for the City. With an emphasis on customer service, this position ensures material and service requirements are met in a timely, efficient, effective, and ethical manner. The ideal Purchasing Supervisor candidate is a flexible and enthusiastic individual who can develop, mentor, and build relationships with team members and across the various departments they serve. The Purchasing Supervisor guides a team of six staff members located at three different City facilities.

The Purchasing Supervisor provides technical support, information, and assistance for purchasing materials, supplies, and services to all City Departments. The successful candidate will interpret, explain, and diplomatically enforce compliance with City procurement policies and procedures and all Federal and State rules and regulations. This position works closely with the Public Works Department and the Finance Department’s Accounting and Information Technology Divisions. Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversees and administers the City’s Cal Card Program; opens and closes accounts; conducts training sessions for new cardholders; monitors payments of invoices and types of purchases; audits cardholder statements; reviews vendor activity reports quarterly to determine if better pricing could be obtained through competitive bidding; prepares reports for Finance Director regarding card use.
