THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for a per diem laboratory analyst to perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water and wastewater according to standard methods and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of college study with at least twenty semester units of chemistry, biology or related science. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science would also be qualifying.
• One (1) year of work experience in an analytical laboratory.
• Able to work independently with direction from senior laboratory analyst/ laboratory supervisor

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Following established procedures, perform physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses of water,
• wastewater, and related materials.
• Collect varied samples for analysis from specific locations according to a predetermined schedule; may collect special samples as conditions indicate.
• Compile and record onto standardized worksheets, logs, and forms, perform calculations and transfer data to database.
• Prepare chemicals, bacteriological media, and standard test solutions.
• Clean and maintain laboratory, equipment, and instruments.
• Maintain inventory of supplies.

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Public Health Nurse Intern/Public Health Nurse in the Health and Human Services Department. This position provides the full range of public health nursing services including teaching, health assessment, and counseling services in homes, clinics, schools and community centers in connection with the prevention and control of diseases and adverse health conditions. Public Health Nurses are assigned to specific programs such as Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, California Children’s Services, Child Health and Disability Prevention, Foster Care and communicable disease control. Performs related work as assigned.

Public Health Nurse Intern: is a recruiting and training level class established to qualify candidates for duties as a PHN in Yuba County Health & Human Services Department. Under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas while pursuing a Public Health Nurse Certification. Upon satisfactory completion of the PHN Certification, the PHN Intern are eligible for promotion to the level of PHN. Incumbents who do not successfully complete the PHN certification as prescribed herein may be released from employment.

Public Health Nurse: is the entry level in this class series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas. As experience is gained, assignments become more complex and are performed under more general supervision.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a Senior Public Health Nurse who is passionate about working with community members and partners! In this role, you will take an equity-focused approach to supporting good health for families and individuals across the lifespan.

The Senior Public Health Nurse will provide health consultations and case management in a multidisciplinary team for families facing complex health challenges. In addition to providing consultations and trainings for community based organizations and providers, this position will also lead initiatives to enhance professional development for a team of nurses and support program planning for Public Health Nursing services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing, with major course work in nursing, and two (2) years of public health nursing experience. 

Other requirements include:

• Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse License

• Possession of a valid California State Public Health Nursing Certificate

• Willing to work evenings or weekends

• Ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, must maintain a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
