The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for the position of Refuse Truck Driver II in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works department. Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks in the collection of residential, commercial and industrial solid waste refuse; drive and operate refuse collection vehicles; organize, assign and review the work of others and perform other related duties as required.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.
• Assists with battery sorting, electronic waste collection, bin repair or delivery, cardboard removal, illegal dumping cleanup, and any other related solid waste program or assignment.
• Completes and posts notification tags on containers, bins and dumpsters for unacceptable contents for refuse collection.
• Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and forms including time records, equipment and maintenance records, and route maps and logs.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Places stencils over old street markings, start compressor and spray inside stencils.

Sr. Business System Analyst - SAP Plant Maintenance/Material Management/Purchasing

Definition

Under direction, the Senior Business Systems Analyst leads and participates in the work of staff in performing applications support in designing, implementing, and maintaining VTA applications and systems including VTA's Enterprise Resource Planning system, Electronic Documents Management System, and other business systems.

 

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the advanced journey-level in the Business Systems Analyst series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes in this series by the level of responsibility assumed, in-depth knowledge about the business area, and complexity of the duties assigned. The Senior Business Systems Analyst performs project lead functions including assigning work, delegating assignments, and reviewing the work of others.

Incumbents at this level perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes in this series including serving as project lead over staff responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting computer applications, or modules of the application, and systems. Incumbents at this level are fully trained in all procedures related to their assigned area of responsibility. This classification implements solutions related to applications used in VTA's functional areas with a strong emphasis on process and flow design, custom functionality, and maintaining systems.

• Leads and participates in the work of staff in managing projects, developing and enhancing system applications for an assigned division;
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships, and works extensively with VTA Management, VTA Business Process Owners, and system Super Users in developing and  enhancing information systems solutions;
• Trains customers, staff, and others as needed in a formal setting, in a group, or one-on-one;

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards

Sufficient training, education and experience to demonstrate possession of the required technical and project management knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in information systems, computer science or related field and four (4) years of responsible experience developing, designing, and/or maintaining major components of a comprehensive information system including evaluation, analysis and input to the software modules of an Enterprise Resource Planning System or other application system. (Additional applicable experience with applications and systems support, design, and maintenance substitutes for college on a year for year basis.) Incumbents must demonstrate substantial experience in an SAP environment, and/or Electronic Documents Management System, and/or Operations system (such as Trapeze, BDT, ACS) or Construction and CMP solutions.

A VTA employee designated as a "Business Process Owner" and/or "Super User" with four (4) years of experience in that capacity, in addition to performing and leading others in system upgrades and demonstrated technical coursework in SAP or systems used at VTA, meets the minimum qualifications for this classification. Experience with transit/transportation-related applications is desirable.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking to fill 16 full-time Maintenance Assistant positions.

The Maintenance Assistant total salary range is $24.74 to $31.56 hourly or $51,459.20 to $65,644.80 annually . The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Infrastructure Maintenance Division of DOT is looking to fill 16 full-time vacant positions. These positions perform work in the maintenance and repair of concrete, pavement, sewers, landscaping, traffic signs, and traffic markings. Duties include digging holes, trenches, and ditches. They also operate a wide range of hand, mechanical, and power tools, as well as a variety of light and heavy vehicles, trucks, and equipment relevant to work performed, ensuring compliance with safe working practices. Maintenance crews provide services seven days a week. Individuals in this classification may be required to work alternate work shifts, including grave and swing, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call.

THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for a per diem laboratory analyst to perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water and wastewater according to standard methods and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of college study with at least twenty semester units of chemistry, biology or related science. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science would also be qualifying.
• One (1) year of work experience in an analytical laboratory.
• Able to work independently with direction from senior laboratory analyst/ laboratory supervisor

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Following established procedures, perform physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses of water,
• wastewater, and related materials.
• Collect varied samples for analysis from specific locations according to a predetermined schedule; may collect special samples as conditions indicate.
• Compile and record onto standardized worksheets, logs, and forms, perform calculations and transfer data to database.
• Prepare chemicals, bacteriological media, and standard test solutions.
• Clean and maintain laboratory, equipment, and instruments.

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

• Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. 
• Positions in this classification require one to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and stand for long periods of time. 
• Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects necessary to perform job functions. 
• Must be able to adapt and work day, swing or graveyard shift.
• Environmental Factors
  • Employees work primarily in the field and are exposed to noise, dust, pollen, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, noxious odors, gases, heat, and cold in confined workspaces and in all types of weather conditions.

  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.
