THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. The incumbents will be assigned to oversee various subdivisions such as Streets, Streams, Storm Drains, Street Lighting, and Motor Pool programs.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

THE POSITION

This is a full-time, management position that requires significant independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, organize and direct the work of others involved in public works, operations, including  stream maintenance, tree management and maintenance including street light maintenance, maintenance of the Community Pier and other activities as required.
• Plan, organize and direct the work of others involved in public works operations.
• Assist in the recruitment and placement of new employees.
• Attend public meetings and functions as needed.
• Establish Division goals and maintain exceptional working relationships.

$39.53-$50.46 per hour (Equipment Mechanic)
$45.46-$58.02 per hour (Supervising Equipment Mechanic)

• Oversee the maintenance and repair of about 100 vehicles, including emergency response vehicles, and a variety of equipment (e.g., generators, trailers, boom trucks, compressors, wheel loaders, street sweepers, etc.).
• Coordinate regular and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical tissues and perform or coordinate the necessary repairs to ensure vehicles are in optimal working condition and meet proper safety protocols.
• Prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and ensure fleet readiness.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure parts and equipment.
• Oversee the upfitting process for first responder vehicles, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and technology to support emergency operations.
• Support maintenance of the Department's asset management software to track vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules and inventory.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders, promptly responding to repair requests and informing them of maintenance progress. 
• Supervise a part-time mechanic.

What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Keep records of work assignments for bookkeeping and tracking purposes.
• Potentially respond to unanticipated emergencies to make temporary and/or permanent repairs in the field.

The City of San Mateo Police Department is looking for highly qualified, experienced Dispatchers to join our team!

The Foster City Police Department is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled individual to join our team as an Entry Level or Lateral Police Fire Dispatcher. 

Under general supervision, receives police and emergency calls and dispatches police units following prescribed procedures; answers non-emergency calls for public safety and other City departments; performs a variety of general administrative support duties including record keeping, typing, and filing; and performs related work as required. 

This journey-level non-sworn classification is responsible for independently performing the full range of receiving and dispatching emergency call duties in support of the Police Department. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Police Dispatch Supervisor in that the latter is the serves as the first level supervisor within the Dispatch Bureau. 

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one (1) year of experience working with radio and computer equipment in the field of law enforcement, fire, or medical dispatching. 

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
• Possess a POST Dispatcher test certificate with a passing score of 55 and higher and meet updated training requirements as per POST guidelines.

Lateral dispatchers do not need to send a copy of the POST certificate but must have experience as a public safety dispatcher.
