Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluation.  Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Code Enforcement Officer experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.
 

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off. This is a full-time, on-site position, designed for direct collaboration with the team and active participation in daily operations.

The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the position of Code Enforcement Officer in the Community Development Department, Building Division.

The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations.  

The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel!  This job entails setting up for events and rentals, cleaning the facility and performing light maintenance duties.  We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

The Sausalito Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a skilled Recreation Specialist to play a vital role in community engagement and will focus their work as the onsite liaison of the Sausalito Sunday Farmers Market.  May be asked to work additional special events.

This position is a maximum of 19 hours per week and limited to 500 hours in a fiscal year.

The Department:

The Sausalito Parks & Recreation Department provides community classes, leagues, and special events for all ages and abilities. Sausalito Parks and Recreation utilizes a wide variety of spaces to host programming including, but not limited to multi-purpose rooms, city parks, green spaces, and community spaces.

The Position:

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist plays a vital role in community engagement and will focus their work as the onsite liaison of the Sausalito Sunday Farmers Market. The Recreation Specialist is the highest classification in the Recreation Leader series. They will organize vendors and support a fun and safe environment for everyone. When not at the market, they will work to get more vendors, conduct outreach about the market, and help plan and promote to the weekly event.

With general policy and departmental philosophy guidance from a supervisor, a Recreation Specialist exercises independent judgment in the performance of duties. The Recreation Specialist has an emphasis on developing plans, schedules, and farmers market activities.

This position is a maximum of 19 hours per week. Limited to 500 hours in a fiscal year.

Essential Job Functions:

• Plans, initiates, organizes, and is on site liaison at Sausalito’s Farmers Market.
• Recruits new vendors or community groups looking to participate in the Farmers Market
• Prepares instructions and materials for vendors
• Receives and reviews reports, suggestions, and complaints from staff and participants
• Maintains records and accounts of attendance, financial charges and receipts, reports of incidents and accidents, and other matters requiring systematic recording
• May supervise and train lower-level personnel
• May be asked to work additional special events
• Performs other related duties, as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
One thousand (1000) hours of experience in recreation leadership at the level of Recreation Leader III in general recreation programs such as day camp, sports, teens, older adults, and theater; or equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application

Possible Substitutions
Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university, preferably with an emphasis in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field may be substituted for the required experience.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of the following is desirable:
• A valid California Class C driver's license
• A valid American Red Cross First Aid certificate

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• As a condition of employment, incumbents will be required to be fingerprinted in accordance with State of California law

• Must be able to lift and carry upwards of 50lbs
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

GENERAL INFO

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard. They also provide essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties relating to aquatics. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the health and safety of aquatic patrons, facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Applicable to all roles; Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Monitor the swimming pool and enforce safety regulations.
• Assist with aquatics programs, special events, and facility upkeep.
• Test and maintain pool water chemistry.
• Set up and tear down for classes, programs, and events.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Work outdoors in sun, rain, or wind as needed.

POSITION-SPECIFIC DUTIES

LIFEGUARD (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Maintain a "rescue-ready" posture and scan assigned zones for drowning emergencies.
• Work in a rotation with other lifeguards across indoor and outdoor stations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Teach American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim lessons following provided lesson plans.
• Maintain open communication with parents and participants.
• Assist with emergency responses and pool safety as trained.
• Attend weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure facility upkeep.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 15
• Education: High school diploma or GED not required.
• Skills: Swimming proficiency at American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4.
• Preferred Certification: Water Safety Instructor

SWIM INSTRUCTOR II – LESSON MANAGER (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Oversee swim instructors and ensure consistent lesson delivery.
• Arrive 30 minutes prior to and stay 30 minutes after swim lessons for setup and breakdown.
• Assist with instructor training and safety drills.
• Maintain and review lesson records to ensure program quality.
• Perform facility upkeep and provide customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• All requirements from Swim Instructor, PLUS:
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience as a Swim Instructor.

LIFEGUARD II - POOL MANAGER (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Supervise lifeguards and enforce safety procedures.
• Conduct lifeguard rotations and monitor staff performance.
• Ensure staff maintain a “rescue-ready” posture and remain alert while on duty.
• Assist in planning and leading weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Monitor pool chemicals and water quality.
• Open, close, and secure facility as needed.
• Provide customer service, event support, and light facility maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 18
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience as a lifeguard.
• Preferred Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Outdoor environment with exposure to sun, wind, and pool chemicals.
• Variable hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work in loud or quiet environments depending on location.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED
