StopWaste is hiring an Energy Council Program Services Specialist to work on Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) programs. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently seeking one full-time Animal Care Technician.  Under general supervision, Animal Care Technicians assist in the daily maintenance, feeding and care of animals housed in the county’s animal care facility including those subject to quarantine, injured or ill; assist with euthanizations; provide information to the public regarding lost or stray animals; assist with licensing, pet adoptions and community volunteer programs; and perform related work as assigned.  This class is a working level class in the animal care series. 

Animal Care Services is a division of the Sheriff's Department.  Animal Care Services provides services for the unincorporated areas of Yuba County and is located in Olivehurst, California.  Animal Care Services care for lost animals, injured and abandon animals, and a provide variety of services that protect both citizens and animals. Most importantly, they keep lost pets safe and happy so they can be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family.

Join us as a Community Service Officer (CSO) in the Berkeley Police Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform a wide range of duties, both in office support and in the field, to support various police functions. Assignments may include field services, jail facilities, property control, community services, crime scene, or traffic control.

Community Service Officers are essential non-sworn members of BPD. By maintaining positive working relationships with City staff and the public, CSOs help build trust in our community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience, such as in-person, telephone, and written contacts indicating effective communication and customer service skills.

Previous volunteer or paid experience in law enforcement, emergency medical services, military service, probation, counseling or similar work requiring extensive public contact is highly desirable.

Other requirements include:

• Must successfully complete a psychiatric evaluation and a Police Department background investigation and medical evaluation.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must be willing to work evening, graveyard, weekend, and holiday shifts for the 24 hour/day operational schedule.
• Must be able to obtain required Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification such as the Community Service Officer Academy, Jail Correction Course, which are conducted or recognized by the Berkeley Police Department, and accept and apply the principles learned in training.
• Must be physically able to perform the work including lifting heavy objects and controlling violent individuals, and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities for the successful completion of duties assigned to the position.

Other requirements include:

• Must be free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
• Must be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose a criminal record.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but is not limited to:

If you are unable to attend the City of Berkeley exam dates, you may register and take your exams with The Academy. The Academy charges a non-refundable materials fee of $10 for the written exam, $25 for the practice PAT, and $100 for the official PAT. After taking the exams and receiving passing scores, please attach your scores to your application.

POST will not authorize you to take the exam within 30 calendar days of having taken your last POST written exam. Please refer to the POST website for additional information.

Applicants may waive the written exam only by submitting a California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-score of 48 points or higher. We will accept California POST T-scores from other agencies provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit, on agency letterhead, a letter that states that the individual has taken the California PELLETB written exam. The letter must contain the total T-score and the date of the test. For information on where the PELLETB test is offered, please visit www.theacademy.ca.gov/tests.

Applicants may waive the performance exam only by submitting a California POST physical agility certificate, known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB), with a score of 325 or higher.  The 1.5-mile run is not a requirement.  The test should not be dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.

Under close supervision, incumbents enforces State and County laws regarding stray, dangerous, rabid, nuisance and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; removes dead animals from public and private properties; assist in feeding and cleaning animal enclosures; assist with euthanizations and disposal of animals in a humane and prescribed method and performs other duties related to humane animal protection and control; performs related work as assigned including assisting the public with drop off, pick up and adoption of animals as necessary.  This is a working level class in animal control, responsible for enforcing applicable regulations in a limited public officer capacity.
