(ACCOUNTING) INTERN

Pay: $25.00 Hourly

Part-time/ limited to maximum of 960 hours in a fiscal year.

This position is located in the City offices.

This is not remote/hybrid work.

As an Accounting Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our finance department, understanding the intricacies of government accounting, and making a positive impact on our community.

The Accounting intern performs routine and/or general assistance tasks with variable difficulty. This assignment is to work within the finance department. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to network with professionals in local government and to observe firsthand the efforts of the City to resolve complex issues of policy and governance.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

California Education Code Section 10911.5 requires that all public recreation program employers must fingerprint all persons having direct contact with a minor. The City does not hire persons who have been convicted of felony drug, sexual assault or physical assault crimes.

POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current temporary/part-time vacancy in our Community Services Department and to create a list for future vacancies.

Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Facilities Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per fiscal year.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have previous facility maintenance experience, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, have good attendance, a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new tasks as requested.  The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a desirable quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

A primary function of this position is janitorial services. Will include set up and cleanup of special events. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Facility Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.

SALARY
Facility Maintenance Worker I:                 
$21.12 - $26.96 per hour

Intern:                                                            
$16.50 - $20.50 per hour

WORK HOURS
Position works approximately 16-20 hours per week in the afternoons and evenings, and will require some weekend hours.

Employees are paid bi-weekly. With the exception of Worker’s Compensation Coverage and sick leave, no other benefits are provided.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal law.

As a Senior Customer Service Representative, your role is pivotal in delivering exceptional service to our members and guests. As the primary point of contact, supervises part-time staff, enforces Silliman Center policies, assists in training staff, and serves as the primary contact for customers. This position requires you to work at our indoor water park and recreation center.
