This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

Benefits

• $86,683 to $105,364 annually
• Non-exempt employees assigned to a 56-hour (average) workweek schedule will receive pay for overtime as defined in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). All overtime shall be paid at a rate of one and one-half (1 ½) times the regular hourly rate of pay.
• All covered employees hired on or after December 28, 2012, who are not defined as “new members” under the Public Employees Pension Reform Act (“PEPRA”) will be covered by the 3% @ 55 retirement formula and the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation provision.  All covered employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, and who are defined as “new members” under PEPRA will be covered by the 2.7% at 57 retirement formula and the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation provision. 
• Regular employees, after completion of their probationary period, shall be eligible for the Health Care Reimbursement Program. Eligible employees receive a credit of $1300 each January 1.
• For all regular employees working full time, the District will pay 85% of the premiums currently in effect for employee and dependent coverage for the lowest cost plan available to District employees offered through the PERS system.
• For all regular employees working full-time, the District will pay 85% of the premiums for employee and dependent coverage for the lowest-cost dental plan.  In the event the employees elect a higher cost coverage, the employees shall pay the increased cost for that plan.
• A Group Life Insurance Plan will be provided with a $25,000 life insurance policy for each unit member, a $1,000 policy for each employee's spouse, and a $1,000 for each employee's dependent under the age of 21.  The CCSD will pay the full monthly premium for each unit member, spouse, and dependent children.
• Covered employees assigned to a 56-hour average workweek schedule shall accrue 4.31 hours of vacation leave biweekly (112 hrs/yr) from the date of hire to sixty (60) months of service.
• Each full-time employee, assigned to a 56-hour average workweek, shall accrue sick leave from the date of employment at the rate of 6.4 hours per 14-day payroll period (based on 120 hours per year times the conversion factor of 1.4).
• In lieu of time off on holidays, covered employees assigned to a 56-hour workweek shall accrue 5.92 hours of holiday leave per 14-day payroll period for a total of 154 hours per year (based on 110 hours per year times the conversion factor of 1.4). 
• The District shall provide covered employees with an annual boot or safety shoe allowance of $250, payable in July of each year.

THE POSITION:
This benefitted, full-time position in the Cataloging Department performs original and derived cataloging for materials in all formats and languages; creates metadata for special collections materials; creates and updates authority records; compiles and reviews records for monthly authority control processing; interprets cataloging policies to staff; and serves as back-up for all copy cataloging tasks and other related duties in the Cataloging Department as needed. THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

LITERACY ASSOCIATE – CENTRAL SANTA ROSA LIBRARY

40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL TIME

 
We are seeking a customer service driven professional with excellent communication skills to join our team as an Adult Literacy Associate. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals who are helping to change the literacy landscape in Sonoma County. This position is part of the Adult Literacy department located in the downtown Central Santa Rosa Library. Spanish/English bilingual skills are highly preferred.

Under direction of the Adult Services Administrator and the Supervising Literacy Program Coordinator, this position coordinates and administers tutor services for the Adult Literacy Services Program (ALS), recruits and provides orientations, training and in-service workshops to tutors for various adult literacy programs, and provides on-going coaching and support for tutors.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Organizes, conducts and evaluates orientations, trainings and in-service workshops for tutors of adult learners; organizes conversation classes and determines the schedule and use of the student computer. 
• Recruits, selects, supervises, supports and encourages tutors; plans and implements methods to both recruit and retain tutors.
• Provides tutors with all instructional resources and materials needed to work with the student and provides ongoing support to the tutor for the duration of their service.
• Plans and organizes events in support of the Sonoma County Library adult literacy programs; participates in public meetings.
• Plans and implements outreach methods for the recruitment of volunteer tutors such as providing information on our program to newspapers, radio stations (PSA), and sending mailers to service and business groups; follows-up on recruitment efforts.
• Maintains the literacy library with relevant materials for the ALS programs.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in education, public administration or related fields. Experience: A combination of education and experience that creates an understanding of adult illiteracy. Generally, this would be achieved by two (2) years of administrative or programmatic experience including one year of library or literacy experience.  Experience working with adults in an educational setting. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
 
SALARY RANGE:               $35.20/hour to $43.96/hour
