The salary range for Staff Specialist is approximately $76,330.80 - $92,820.00 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

Staff Specialists perform paraprofessional administrative work of considerable complexity in various areas of public administration. An employee in this class performs a variety of administrative assignments related to the execution of administrative detail and assisting in departmental administrative service areas. A Staff Specialist may act as a lead to lower-level clerical classifications but is primarily an individual contributor with a high level of expertise in generalized office administration.
Typical duties and results may include:

StopWaste is hiring an Energy Council Program Services Specialist to work on Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) programs. The position will conduct community outreach and engage with stakeholders to make energy upgrades and electrify multifamily and single family buildings in Alameda County and the larger Bay Area. It will also work on growing and strengthening the clean energy workforce to help achieve energy and climate goals. Projects for 2024 include:

• IT – Have some familiarity with programs such as Windows, Active Directory, Office/Microsoft 365. Must be able to disassemble and reassemble a PC. Projects will consist of adding and editing AD and email accounts and sorting and organizing hardware components. Some daily tasks will include responding to help desk requests and making basic equipment repairs and replacements.

• Human Resources - Offering learning opportunities by following a full recruitment and onboarding process. Assist with website updating; maintaining employee records; the conversion of physical records/forms to electronic format; and conducting research and analysis on HR-related topics.

• Public Works (Utilities) – Provide support to the City's Public Works Department - Utilities Division with various engineering projects in drinking water distribution, water resources, sanitary sewer collection, and storm drainage. Primary assignment will focus on mapping and geolocating drinking water facilities to comply with new state regulatory compliance.  Secondary assignments may include field engineering support on construction of capital utility projects and assisting on various engineering reports and studies.

Applicants must be college students currently enrolled in and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in a related field (e.g. public administration, public policy, business, planning, library science, environmental studies, engineering, sustainability). Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Test, implement, and maintain highly complex configurations/gear for core network switches, routers, firewalls, PaaS, and monitoring devices.
