Under general supervision of the Inspection and Neighborhood Preservation Manager, the Neighborhood Preservation Officer seeks public compliance with Municipal Code sections, ordinances, and resolutions in such areas as planning, zoning, signs, community nuisance, business license, and related areas; and performs other duties as assigned. The incumbent will have a broad range of knowledge and independence within general parameters in the application of field investigations, evidence collection and violation resolution in the enforcement of municipal regulatory processes.

Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Definition
Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

Water Resources Mechanics perform a wide range of tasks involving mechanical maintenance and repairs of pumps, plumbing systems, electric motors, compressors, piping, boilers, underground infrastructure, facilities and buildings, carpentry, HVAC systems, mechanical drives, gear boxes, blowers, collectors, belt filter presses, and chemical feed systems. The work is done at the Water Reclamation Plant, located at 101 West Jack London Boulevard in Livermore.

A Water Resources Mechanic I performs a range of tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction. A Water Resources Mechanic II is distinguished from the WR Mechanic I by the possession of advanced journey level mechanical ability and aptitude and is responsible for solving more difficult technical problems.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Responsibilities include record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

• Completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program, or approved equivalent as a heavy equipment or marine mechanic OR four (4) years of progressively responsible journey level full-time work experience performing to the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment which should include mechanical, electrical or welding repair, and at least one year in an industrial environment.
• Experience in corrective and preventative maintenance records using a computer-based maintenance management information system
• Experience in utilizing MS Windows based software for data entry, work order processing and materials requisitioning

Required License:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record (Operates District Vehicles).
• No DUI’s or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years. 
• No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years.

Required Tools:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work.

Hours:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority.
• The Ferry Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Public Works Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Operates hand and power tools, light and heavy construction equipment and specialized wastewater equipment. Handles and applies chemicals. Maintains, operates, inspects, repairs and installs water distribution system facilities including piping, storage tanks, meters, hydrants, valves, pressure reducing stations, pumping stations, pumps, controls, measuring devices, cathodic protection systems, communication systems, and related appurtenances.

Education and Training Guidelines: 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance or construction; completion of high school or the equivalent. 

Experience: One year of experience in general maintenance or construction. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration:

Selection Process

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. The salary range for this classification is $47,982.48 - $58,422.00 annually.

This position is covered under the Pay Floor Policy and hourly rates will be adjusted to a minimum of $26.66 hourly for benefitted positions. The Pay Floor rate consists of a base amount and an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

Community Services Division: Safe + Clean + Engaged Neighborhoods

Empower and support residents, schools, and local organizations to make the City more livable, safe, and clean.

Project Hope is a neighborhood engagement and empowerment initiative focused on nine neighborhoods in San Jose. Organized into operational teams, Project Hope staff are assigned to specific neighborhoods, where they assist residents to address the conditions and circumstances that exist due to systemic racism such as crime/violence, blight, lack of trust, marginalization, and inadequate services. Project Hope supports residents to create new neighborhood associations or reinvigorate existing ones, develop the organizational and capacity building skills to better utilize and reach key City, and other public/private resources to address ongoing quality-of-life issues.

Community Activity Workers in Project Hope build strong relationships with residents, partners and community; assist neighborhood associations/board members with planning for meetings and events; inform residents of City services; assist neighborhood associations in building strong relationships with City of San José departments and other local government agencies, and; provide in-service trainings and workshops for community leaders to ensure self-sustainability of the neighborhood associations. ?Applicants should enjoy spending time in the community directly engaging with residents (e.g. canvassing, door-to-door outreach & surveying), planning and attending community events, bringing people together for positive results, and teaching residents how to engage with City and other public/private partners to address neighborhood/community issues.

Job duties for Community Activity Workers in Project Hope include, but are not limited to:

• Providing support to Community Coordinator in resident engagement efforts of three Project Hope sites
• Working some weekend and/or evening schedules per the program schedule
• Developing and presenting written materials and making public presentations to inform people about programs and encourage participation.
• Providing assistance to board members to increase the capacity of neighborhood associations achieving self-sustainability.
• Participating in planning and coordinating in-service training and development of program aids and materials.
• Performing public contact and liaison work in explaining and interpreting the Project Hope program.
• Preparing and monitoring budget and timesheets for the program and in support of neighborhood associations.
• Preparing monthly reports and correspondence and assisting community groups in grant writing.
• Coordinating with governmental agencies, local businesses, community-based organizations, County partners and City departments.
• Surveying targeted neighborhoods needs via methods including telephone, surveys, knock-and-talks or door-to-door canvassing.
• Providing information to residents on accessing City services or other service providers.
• Assisting in planning and implementing special activities or programs, such as community service or community empowerment projects, community meetings, community/graffiti clean-ups, tree-planting, tutoring, or sports activities for and with neighborhood associations.
• Rendering first aid in case of injury; watching for the safety of participants and spectators.
• Designing and producing flyers and announcements.
• May be required to provide bilingual translation, both orally and in writing.

The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the District and reports to a five member board. The General Manager plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the overall administrative activities of the District; advises and assists the Board; and represents the District’s interests at local, regional, State and Federal levels.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in engineering, business, public administration or a closely related field; a Master’s Degree is desirable. Five years of professional experience at a senior-executive level in municipal utility systems, ideally with knowledge of wastewater maintenance systems and progressive responsibility in administration and operation of wastewater systems.
