About the Position:  The Lead Open Space Technician performs a wide variety of tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of assigned areas.  Performance of the work requires the use of considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines. Work Environment:  This position is part of the Land and Facilities Services Department assigned to a primary field office and will visit other Midpen field sites. Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:   

 

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in park maintenance, resource management, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities, and/or resource management.

 

Licenses & Certifications Required:    

• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class A Driver’s License and required endorsements within the probationary period.
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Grade I Water Treatment Operator Certificate and Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Qualified Applicators Certificate with Landscape Maintenance (Category B) for pesticide application within (12) months of employment.

San Mateo County Parks is currently seeking a full-time extra help Bilingual Community Engagement Intern II.
 

This position would be based out of Flood and Friendship County Parks and primarily working with the communities surrounding these parks. 

 

Friendship County Park is located in North Fair Oaks, an unincorporated area of Redwood City. Through community collaboration, the small urban park was developed to provide outdoor recreation and space to promote community gardening. The park is situated on San Francisco Public Utility Commission land and is managed by the San Mateo County Parks Department. Less than an acre in size, the park features 30 community garden planters, a playground, picnic tables and more. Staff from San Mateo County Health’s Nutrition, Education and Obesity Program provide nutritional education sessions for gardeners and families. Plot use is through an agreement with San Mateo County Parks and requires regular participation in meetings and clean-up days. 

 

Flood County Park is a 21 acre park located in Menlo Park. It is primarily used as a location for family and group picnicking, playground use, and walking by the local community. The park is currently undergoing a planning process to renovate the facilities and encourage use by new sections of the local communities. 

 

An intern at these locations would work on improving the interpretive elements of the park and provide programming and outreach opportunities for the local communities.

 

The Community Engagement intern will report to Flood Park and be able to drive to Friendship Park and other park locations as needed. The intern will be supervised by the Interpretive Division Park Staff. The position will be approximately 60% indoor, desk work/classroom programs and 40% outdoor, event/program work.

Examples Of Duties

A Bilingual Community Engagement Intern would be responsible for:

• Management of Friendship Park Community Garden, including but not limited to:

  • Management of garden plot availability and agreements

  • Primary point of contact for Community Garden participants; maintaining regular communications by County phone, text, and email

  • Work alongside gardeners to identify and address any needs or challenges and maintain garden

  • Lead and facilitate regular on-site educational opportunities for gardeners with staff from San Mateo County Health, Office of Sustainability, and community partners

  • Manage on-site garden tools and supplies; identify additional supplies that may be required

• Community Program Coordination and Outreach, including but not limited to: 

  • Coordinating and leading programs with Community Based Organizations and Partner Organizations within the community near Friendship and Flood Parks (i.e. Libraries, Schools)

  • Leading interpretive programs for the general public at Friendship and Flood Parks 

  • Tabling at local community events, such as Farmer’s Markets

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will: 

• Have strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish with diverse community members and San Mateo County staff to support gardeners. 

• Be an enthusiastic, outgoing, positive, and energetic person who can work collaboratively or independently with little to no supervision. 

• Have the ability to learn new skills, the willingness to be flexible, and follow directions. 

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old

• Bilingual in Spanish required

• Experience in food growing and garden management desired

• Knowledge of and ability to teach gardening concepts desired

• Ability to engage with individuals of many demographics and histories – youth, seniors, immigrants, economically diverse

• Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to plan events and organize participants and volunteers

• Must have a valid California Driver’s License

This is a full-time position with flexible and negotiable hours requiring weekend work.

IST Management Analyst II supports the work of departmental management staff by conducting day-to-day administrative support activities and by providing professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational analyses and studies. The incumbent performs the full range of duties as assigned, works independently and exercises a high level of judgment and initiative.

IST Management Analyst II Annual Pay Range: $108,485-$135,484

 

IST Management Analyst I performs most of the professional analytical, technical, and administrative support work as the IST Management Analyst II, but is not expected to function at the same skill level.

Education and Experience:  any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, and:

• IST Management Analyst I: one (1) year of responsible analytical experience.
• IST Management Analyst II:  three (3) years of professional analytical experience equivalent to Management Analyst I at Midpen.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

A Community Service Officer is a non-sworn uniformed police technician who is responsible for basic criminal and traffic collision investigations, issuing parking citations and warnings, towing abandoned vehicles, and basic collection of investigative information and evidence. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an employment list for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher within the Sheriff’s Department.  The incumbent receives 9-1-1 system sheriff, fire, medical emergency and rescue calls; dispatches sheriff, fire and medical personnel following established procedures; maintains communication with officers in the field to ensure safety and provide back-up and information; provides relief coverage for the records unit; and performs related work as assigned. These classifications require shift work and the ability to make decisions and act appropriately in stressful situations. The work also involves interdepartmental cooperation with various public safety agencies located throughout the County to coordinate the most effective response to requests for assistance from the public.
