ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of High School or College Summer Inter for the Community Development Department. This employment opportunity is excellent for a well- organized person seeking some summer work experience and getting exposure to government and specifically to work in Community Development. The primary responsibility of this position is to help with data entry and document preparation. The position will also be able to shadow planners and building staff on counter duties, attend meetings and assist staff on planning projects as schedules permit. 

This Summer Intern position is a non-benefit casual position. This casual position work schedule will vary (as needed) between 15-20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

 As a Park Services Officer Aide, you will:  

• Drive to different park locations and assist in the daily operations and maintenance of park facilities and grounds. 
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions. 
• Provide exceptional customer service to park visitors, answering questions, providing information, and first aid to ill or injured visitors.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce park rules, issue warnings and citations.
• Participate in various park programs and events.
• Perform routine tasks such as litter collection, restroom cleaning, weeding, watering and trail maintenance.
• Learn and apply new skills related to park operations and maintenance.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate loves working outdoors in various weather conditions, possesses strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor, is flexible and willing to learn new tasks and skills, and can work independently and as part of a team. Basic knowledge of park operations and maintenance is a plus but not required.

Work Schedule: This is a 20-24 hours per week position. The regular work schedule is Thursday and Friday; weekend work may be occasionally required. This position is limited to up to 1000 hours per year. However, employment might end sooner, depending on the needs of the hiring department. Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment. 

Essential Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Actively engage with the public to provide excellent customer service, anticipate customer needs and deliver services in a timely and respectful manner.
• Patrols parks or trails and other public recreational area.
• Provide information and direct visitors to appropriate park areas.
• Develop and participate in interpretive programs.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions.
• Interpret and apply oral or written material/instructions.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities; may make recommendations on relevant subjects such as modifications to equipment or facilities to reduce vandalism or improve safety.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce rules and regulations governing facilities. Issue warnings and code citations, directs traffic, enforce park rules as necessary.
• Assist ill or injured park visitors until proper medical aid arrives.
• Operate a motor vehicle or motorized maintenance equipment.
• Conduct light maintenance activities (e.g., repairing, making and installing signs, fences, etc.).
• Perform watering, weeding, pesticide applications, pruning, trash control and perform minor repairs and custodial maintenance.
• Operate light motorized equipment including, but not limited to, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, power mowers, sprayers and tractors. 
• May occasionally operate heavier and more complex equipment.
• Ensure compliance with park rules, codes and ordinances.
• Work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours.
• May direct the work of other employees on an intermittent or project basis.
• May direct the work of volunteer service organizations on an intermittent or project basis.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Education, Experience and Training
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and ability is qualifying.  
 

• Candidates selected for this position must have a valid California driver's license or equivalent and be at least 18 years old on the hire date.

Definition
Under direction, provides lead direction and performs the more complex administrative, technical, and specialized functions in the areas of incentives, contracts, business services, finance, budget, and facility management; and performs related work as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the advanced lead level in the Staff Specialist series. Incumbents may provide lead direction and may be assigned to perform the more complex duties. This class is distinguished from the Supervising Staff Specialist in that the latter assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff. This class is distinguished from Staff Specialist I/II, which is at the journey level, and does not typically perform lead work or the most complex duties.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the County-wide classification of Senior Accounting Technician. The current vacancy exists within the Treasurer – Tax Collector’s Office. About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

Please note that schedules can vary every week or be on an "on call" basis depending on knowledge, training, and experience with specific animal routines. These positions will be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, during all climactic conditions as assigned and must have the ability to enter animal areas and perform physical work (including lifting objects up to 50 lbs.).

About the Position

Position is responsible for a wide variety of recreation activities, including supervising Youth Center gym rentals and scorekeeping for adult and youth sports leagues (softball, basketball, flag football soccer, bocce ball, kickball, corn hole). Responsibilities during scorekeeping will include head on site supervisor, set up and cleanup of facility or field, maintain score and game time. Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Program Coordinator as assigned.

Schedule will vary depending on sports season; mornings, nights, and weekends as scheduled. Monday-Friday between hours 5:00pm-10:30pm, and weekends as scheduled.

Essential Duties

• Works directly with the public.
• Serves as site or program supervisor.
• Directs program participants as appropriate.
• Performs site maintenance duties.
• Serves as field or gym supervisor.
• Maintains accurate score and game time. 
• Uses and maintains recreation equipment.

About the Position

Positions in this classification perform work in the organization and implementation of a wide variety of recreation activities. 

The work schedule will be Monday-Thursday 4:00pm-9:00pm but may vary based on the needs of the City.

The Program Coordinator classification is the top-level position in the Recreation Leader Series.  Advancement from Recreation Leader Level II to Program Coordinator requires 500 hours of work experience at Recreation Leader Level II, or equivalent experience.

May provide functional supervision to a Recreation Leader I or II as assigned.  Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member.

Essential Duties

• Provide evening customer support, which includes front desk coverage at the Adult Community Center, processing registrations and payments, processing refunds and transfers, answering phone, contacting customers through emails and calls.

• Assist with program marketing including social media and flyers.

This vacancy is specifically for the Field Operations CSO position.

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Police Department as a Senior Community Services Officer. This position requires mature judgement and discretion and is given specialized training. We are seeking highly skilled individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Under general supervision, this position supplements administrative staff and provides support for sworn staff in police operations. There are four main assignment areas for the position, but currently there is only one vacancy in Field Operations.

Field Operations Assignment:
Performs vehicle abatement duties, provides parking enforcement, performs evidence collection and processing in accordance with departmental procedures, prepares police and operational reports. Responds to subpoenas as necessary. Handle a variety of department fleet maintenance and equipment maintenance duties; run errands in support of department operations, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in office administration or specialized job training, with undergraduate college course work, specialized administrative or law enforcement education and/or training. An associate degree is desirable.

Experience:  Two (2) years of full-time experience using computers, telephones, radios and other modern office equipment and programs including preparing, compiling and distributing records, budgets, reports and statistical information. Prior experience in Property/Evidence is desirable.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a good driving record.

Special Requirements
Ability to provide effective service and technical support; ability to learn all assignments; ability to sit for long periods of time, stoop, squat, lift and carry small boxes, supplies and equipment up to 25 lbs.; ability to remain calm and courteous in stressful situations, possess stamina for high workload periods, high profile projects and tight deadlines; coordinate and communicate with a wide range of people, effectively disseminate information and analyze relevant data; flexibility to work irregular hours and overtime as necessary; handle multiple priorities and respond to urgent requests; provide community service in a polite and courteous manner.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. Applicants selected for a Departmental interview must complete a background investigation which includes a polygraph and fingerprinting. After a conditional job offer, applicants must also complete a psychological examination and pre-employment medical examination.

Our Minimum Qualifications for consideration are:

Counter Services Technician I:

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in the building trades, civil engineering, code compliance, planning, or a related field.

Experience: One year of increasingly responsible experience providing customer service at a public counter or office that provides construction, architecture, engineering or similar services is desirable.

Counter Services Technician II:

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in the building trades, civil engineering, code compliance, planning, or a related field.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience providing customer service at a public counter or office that provides construction, architecture, engineering or similar services.

A Dance Instructor (Program Specialist) will plan, prepare and instruct recreation activities. Activities may include art, cooking, dance, pre-school program and other program areas. Programs are designed for children ages 4-17 (primarily 5-12) years of age.

Dance programs may include ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, folkloric, salsa, and rhythmic international styles.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (These duties are a general description and are not all inclusive.)

• Develop and submit lesson plans including class content and material needs.
• Lead organized activities to develop and strengthen youth academic, recreational, and social skills.
• Plan lessons and activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
• Ability to requisition supplies and/or purchasing program supplies within City guidelines
• Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on the activities, camps and events
• Conduct creative and safe class meetings; instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies, tools, and equipment
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment
• Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, students and staff
• Communicate with supervisor regarding classroom needs
• Attend staff meetings and trainings
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by a program coordinator or Recreation Supervisor. The Program Specialist may supervise a part-time aide and/or "counselor in training" in a classroom environment in daily activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
• Different program areas will have different skills and knowledge requirements for the position; check with Recreation Supervisor. (For example: 6 ECE unites required for pre-school instructor)
• One school year teaching experience
• At least one year's experience working with children in an academic setting
• Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

SELECTION PROCESS

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established.
