THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Child Care Director.  Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position will perform responsible work in administering and managing a state-funded preschool program.  The incumbent in this position will independently oversee the program and staff at Pickleweed Preschool located in East San Rafael. 

This position performs the following essential job duties: 

• Assist with the establishment of the program budget
• Hire, train, and supervise staff
• Supervise timely completion of annual ECERS
• Supervise completion of DRDP assessments twice annually
• Supervise timely completion of parent surveys
• Supervise timely completion of two parent conferences annually
• Supervise timely ongoing child portfolios
• Supervise and implement systems for creating and maintaining regular written child observations
• Complete annual June 1st report to Department of Education
• Schedule staff and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
• Facilitate parent nights for families four times per year
• Liaison with parents and school districts
• Function as classroom instructor
• Approve Child Care Instructor II curriculum and plans
• Organize regular staff meetings
• Oversees referrals of children for assessment and special services
• Complete annual written evaluations of all staff
• Perform other duties as required.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge/skill of:

• Early Childhood Development

• AA Degree or 60 units, with 24 ECE units plus 6 administrative units and 2 adult supervision units and one (1) year working in a preschool program, AND/OR
• Site Supervisor Permit

Special Requirements:

• Must be willing to work the hours required for the assigned Center.
• Possession of California Driver’s License preferred.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill a Park Maintenance Worker I/II position in the
Community Services Department. The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone
who has a good understanding of many aspects of the maintenance of facilities, parks, janitorial, and horticulture. This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time
management, and communication skills. The Ideal Candidate must be highly self-motivated,
able to work independently with minimal oversite, demonstrate good judgement, as well as be
organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor on a
consistent basis. This position will also require the selected candidate work weekends,
standby and overtime as necessary.

Park Maintenance Worker I:

This is an entry-level classification in the park maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties. May be required to work any shift, including a regular work-shift that includes weekends and holidays, and routinely participate in a weeklong stand-by shift. Park Maintenance Worker I will usually exercise less independence, discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the park maintenance worker series. This class differs from Parks Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent performs more complex parks maintenance duties, including the requirement to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, to work independently, exercise judgment, and operate the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The incumbent Park Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Park Maintenance I level, or when filled from the outside requires prior work experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City parks, ball field maintenance/set up, and Cemetery as needed. Maintain irrigation, maintain synthetic turf, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, turf groomers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work, while all safe work procedures i.e., necessary PPE. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the failure of such attendance undermines the City’s ability to provide critical services to the employees, department and the public.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Applying fertilizers and spraying various herbicides and pesticides in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves, and building maintenance as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements; work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Park Maintenance Worker I in the City of Woodland.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License. It is highly desirable to possess a State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate, Category B.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a temporary (not to exceed 6 months) Manager of Aging Services! In this role, you will oversee four major Aging Services program areas, including senior centers, nutrition, transportation, and case management, as well as supervision of the division’s management team. A Master's Degree in any of the above disciplines is desirable.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

The PEO will use a computer to make entries, update and make corrections to information and keep a variety of detailed logs and files, while also using a variety of law enforcement communication equipment.  In addition to issuing warnings and citations, the PEO may testify in court regarding citations issued and other events.  These duties will be performed under general supervision and when assigned, working with other staff. The majority of the workday will be spent on the field (i.e., outside) in various weather conditions.

A typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week including weekends, nights, and holidays.  The PEO is a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward is required daily.

Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Certificates and Licenses:

Examination:

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview.

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision of the Community and Recreation Services Director, the Community Services Manager administers and manages the Youth and Family Services (YFS) and Homeless Programs of the Community and Recreation Services Department for the City of Union City. YFS services include support for youth violence intervention and prevention through mentoring, employment, outreach, case management, individual and family counseling, parent education, and crisis support. Homeless Programs provide direct case management services to unhoused individuals and families.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

This is a single position management classification assigned overall management and coordination of service delivery for the Community Services including Youth & Family Services, Homelessness Programs and other community-based social services. The Community Services Manager is responsible for achieving defined fiscal and programmatic objectives including but not limited to identifying, preparing, and managing grant proposals, budget, and performance reports for federal, state, and local funding.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Manages and implements a delivery system of social services to youth, families and individuals in crises and the unhoused including but not limited to: at-risk youth, dependent children, homelessness support, sustenance and nutrition support, victims of child/adult abuse, domestic violence, and those experiencing mental health and substance abuse.
• Develops, integrates and oversees new social services programs into division/department administrative structure.
• Writes effective and persuasive grant proposals to secure funding to support City projects, programs and activities.
• Prepares performance reports for federal, state and local funding, and program performance and other reports as required by the City.
• Ensures timely and accurate use and reporting of grant funds consistent with purpose(s) outlined by the funding source, and communication of proposed variances to use of funds as necessary.
• Manages, trains, motivates and evaluates a team of multi-disciplinary staff. Provides overall technical and management direction/coordination to personnel in assigned area of responsibility.
• Works collaboratively with public, private and non-profit organizations, community members and other stakeholders including County and State level regional bodies and taskforces to build partnerships and coalitions to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and service delivery methods.
• Conducts presentations of programs and services provided to public, groups and other agencies.
• Serves as a departmental liaison with community social and mental health agencies, local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, the faith community, community organizations and non-profit organizations, the school district, and others to adequately assess and represent community needs.
• Participates in department, city and community meetings as necessary.
• Conducts assessments to identify appropriate resources and provide referral services (secondary duty).
