The City of Marysville is excited to announce the employment opportunity for a Firefighter!  We are seeking energetic and outstanding individuals to join our team. 

This particular recruitment will be a 56 hour (Monday-Friday) position - with the exception of emergencies and Strike Teams.  The base weekly schedule will resemble the following example: 

Monday - 8 hours

Tuesday - 8 hours

Wednesday - 8 hours

Thursday - 24 hours

Friday - 8 hours

Our Firefighters perform firefighting, rescue, fire prevention, equipment operation and equipment maintenance activities to protect life and property; provide emergency medical and rescue services to the community; and perform related duties and responsibilities as required. The Firefighter classification receives direct supervision from the Fire Captain and may receive functional direction from the Fire Engineer.

This is the entry level paid classification in the field of firefighting. It is distinguished from the classification of Fire Engineer in that the latter is assigned more responsible and varied duties which require knowledge and experience in driving motorized fire fighting vehicles and operating related pumping, hydraulic and other specialized fire equipment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to fires, emergency rescues, first aid, fire alarms, natural and man-made disasters, and public assist service calls.

• Connects and lays hose lines; assists in holding nozzles to direct streams of water; carries and operates various fire extinguishers and other firefighting appliances; operates engine pumping equipment as required.

• Assists in overhaul, salvage and cleanup operations at any incident.
• Performs housekeeping and station maintenance.

• Operates ventilation equipment; administers first aid.
• Cleans, services, inspects and test firefighting equipment and apparatus.
• Conducts inspections of building, structures, and properties for compliance with building, safety and related City codes.
• Answers general questions from the public.
• Prepares and updates reports, logs, maps, and other departmental records as needed.
• Makes recommendations to improve the manner in which the job is performed and to deliver the highest quality of service to the public.
• Studies and trains on Fire Department rules and regulations, fire hazards, firefighting techniques, and other related emergency subjects.
• Maintains regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
• May be assigned to drive and operate fire department vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (position requirements at entry) *

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices, and procedures of modern fire prevention and suppression methods.
• Operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment, tools, and devices.
• Applicable local, State and Federal laws, and departmental rules and regulations.
• Water hydraulics, principles of fire streams and proper pump pressures, and fire behavior.
• First aid, CPR, and other rescue procedures.
• Safety practices, fire hazards, and potentially dangerous situations as they relate to fire prevention, fire suppression, fire investigation, rescue, emergency situations and hazardous materials.
• Geography of the local area including location of hydrants and mains, major traffic areas, and fire hazards.

Ability to:*

• Perform fire suppression, fire prevention and fire inspection activities in emergency situations in accordance with applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations.
• Demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude as required in the operation and maintenance of the firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies within established guidelines.
• Administer first aid including CPR.
• Drive fire and rescue vehicles with care and safety in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances.
• Keep simple records and prepare reports.
• Utilize basic arithmetic, including decimals, ratios, percentages, and fractions.

What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Keep records of work assignments for bookkeeping and tracking purposes.
• Potentially respond to unanticipated emergencies to make temporary and/or permanent repairs in the field.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Public Health Nurse Intern/Public Health Nurse in the Health and Human Services Department. This position provides the full range of public health nursing services including teaching, health assessment, and counseling services in homes, clinics, schools and community centers in connection with the prevention and control of diseases and adverse health conditions. Public Health Nurses are assigned to specific programs such as Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, California Children’s Services, Child Health and Disability Prevention, Foster Care and communicable disease control. Public Health Nurse Intern: is a recruiting and training level class established to qualify candidates for duties as a PHN in Yuba County Health & Human Services Department. Under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas while pursuing a Public Health Nurse Certification. Upon satisfactory completion of the PHN Certification, the PHN Intern are eligible for promotion to the level of PHN. Incumbents who do not successfully complete the PHN certification as prescribed herein may be released from employment.

Public Health Nurse: is the entry level in this class series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas. THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which includes moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Deputy District Attorneys perform professional legal services in the prosecution of a variety of criminal and/or civil matters on behalf of the District Attorney and perform other related work as assigned.

Deputy District Attorney I-II-III:

• Level I – This level is assigned to attorneys who have no previous legal experience.  Attorneys at this level work under close supervision. Applicants who have taken the California State Bar Exam this year and are waiting for results are encouraged to apply.

• Level II – This level is assigned to attorneys with at least one year of experience in the practice of law, who have demonstrated sufficient professional knowledge, judgment and skill to begin handling cases under general supervision. 

• Level III – This level is assigned to attorneys with at least four years of experience in the practice of law, who have demonstrated sufficient professional knowledge, judgement and skill to handle the most difficult and complex cases under limited supervision.

Examples of Duties: 

• Reviews and evaluates law enforcement reports and associated information and makes decisions whether to prosecute, negotiate or dismiss.      
• Appears in Superior Court for all criminally related court matters, including, pre-hearing conferences, sentencing, preliminary hearings, motions, and court and jury trials.
• Interviews witnesses and victims of criminal, domestic violence, and other offenses; reviews and evaluates physical evidence, views crime scenes; discusses cases with law enforcement; evaluates cases for settlement purposes and creates strategies for trial.
• Performs legal research regarding a variety of anticipated legal issues; provides advice to law enforcement staff regarding applicable laws, court decisions and legal authorities.
• Prepares a variety of documentation, such as jury instruction packets, motions, sentencing statements, correspondence and other materials.
• Prepares witness lists; organizes and compiles court exhibits and other evidence in preparation for court and trial and provides for legal discovery of such work.
• Prepares and presents cases to the Yuba County Grand Jury.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Registered Nurse in the Public Health Division within the Health and Human Services Department. Under general direction, the Registered Nurse promotes general health in the community through education and outreach; performs a range of nursing tasks such as specimen collection and processing; administering medication/injections, diagnostic skin tests and immunizations; completes appropriate paperwork such as logs, reports, and forms; coordinates the patient’s medical care with private physicians, public facilities and other health centers; reviews laboratory results; assists in monitoring quality assurance, infection control and safety activities; participates in COVID-19 response activities including testing and other activities; administration of general nursing care, including general health screenings; provision of quality nursing care to both adult and pediatric patients in a variety of settings in conjunction with or under the direction of the Public Health Officer. THE POSITION:
