The Paid Call Firefighter (PCF) Entry Level position is the first position in the classification of Paid Call Firefighter. This position is supervised by the Training Battalion Chief, PCF Program Manager or direct supervisor. The Entry Level PCF must successfully complete a 12-month probationary period and acquire the basic knowledge, skills and abilities required for successful performance as a PCF. During the probationary period, the PCF will attend a Fire Academy provided by the District. Before the end of the 12-month probationary period, the PCF must be a certified Emergency Medical Technician.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must live within Santa Cruz County.
- Be at least 18 years of age by August 31, 2024.
- Possess a valid California Class C Driver's License and pass an "insurability" check by the District's insurance carrier.
- Copy of current Driving Record issued by CA DMV- available online.
- Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent by August 31, 2024.
- Must pass a District-provided medical physical exam including a drug screening and background investigation.
- Must have a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) certification, completed before the CalOpps application closing date August 31, 2024.
- Must have a valid, passing score of the written exam from FCTC, completed before the CalOpps application closing date of August 31, 2024.
- Possess and maintain a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification card. Please upload a copy of your card when you apply on CalOpps.
Please note: Paid Call Firefighters must become certified as Emergency Medical Technicians within twelve (12) months of appointment. This certification course will not be provided or paid for by Central Fire District.
Typical duties, may include but not limited to:
- Respond to stations and incidents when requested.
- Attend drills and training sessions as required.
- Participate in District events such as fire prevention, public education, and community events.
- Perform work as assigned by the Fire Chief or designated representative(s) relative to firefighting, its equipment and related facilities and grounds.
Desirable Qualifications:
- EMT, or EMT-P (National Registry).
- Courses toward, or a degree in, Fire Protection Technology or a related field.
- Successful completion of a District approved, fulltime Fire Academy.
