The City of Marysville is excited to announce the employment opportunity for a Firefighter!  We are seeking energetic and outstanding individuals to join our team. 

This particular recruitment will be a 56 hour (Monday-Friday) position - with the exception of emergencies and Strike Teams.  The base weekly schedule will resemble the following example: 

Monday - 8 hours

Tuesday - 8 hours

Wednesday - 8 hours

Thursday - 24 hours

Friday - 8 hours

Our Firefighters perform firefighting, rescue, fire prevention, equipment operation and equipment maintenance activities to protect life and property; provide emergency medical and rescue services to the community; and perform related duties and responsibilities as required. The Firefighter classification receives direct supervision from the Fire Captain and may receive functional direction from the Fire Engineer.

This is the entry level paid classification in the field of firefighting. It is distinguished from the classification of Fire Engineer in that the latter is assigned more responsible and varied duties which require knowledge and experience in driving motorized fire fighting vehicles and operating related pumping, hydraulic and other specialized fire equipment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. SJFD is a high-volume, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression and rescue services that protects approximately 200 square miles, Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services as well as specialized operations including Urban Search and Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and a Hazardous Material Unit with a Decontamination Unit. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

• Oral Bilingual Pay: 2.5% of top step Firefighter (currently $131.02 bi-weekly)

Education & Training Pay (AA/AS - BS, Fire Science, Fire Technology, Fire Protection Technology): 1.5% of top step Firefighter (currently $78.61 bi-weekly)

About the Highway Program Deputy Director

The Highway Program Deputy Director, reporting to the Chief of Engineering and Program Delivery, manages a diverse and talented team of seasoned staff who is well-versed on the delivery of capital projects related to the State highway system and other roadways in the county. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), project-related right-of-way activities (in coordination with VTA Real Estate), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and beyond (e.g., local agencies, Caltrans, federal agencies, resources agencies, utilities, etc.), and community and other outreach (working with VTA public information and government affairs staff).
 

Deputy District Attorneys perform professional legal services in the prosecution of a variety of criminal and/or civil matters on behalf of the District Attorney and perform other related work as assigned.

Deputy District Attorney I-II-III:

• Level I – This level is assigned to attorneys who have no previous legal experience.  Attorneys at this level work under close supervision. Applicants who have taken the California State Bar Exam this year and are waiting for results are encouraged to apply.

• Level II – This level is assigned to attorneys with at least one year of experience in the practice of law, who have demonstrated sufficient professional knowledge, judgment and skill to begin handling cases under general supervision. 

• Level III – This level is assigned to attorneys with at least four years of experience in the practice of law, who have demonstrated sufficient professional knowledge, judgement and skill to handle the most difficult and complex cases under limited supervision.

Examples of Duties: 

• Reviews and evaluates law enforcement reports and associated information and makes decisions whether to prosecute, negotiate or dismiss.      
• Appears in Superior Court for all criminally related court matters, including, pre-hearing conferences, sentencing, preliminary hearings, motions, and court and jury trials.
• Interviews witnesses and victims of criminal, domestic violence, and other offenses; reviews and evaluates physical evidence, views crime scenes; discusses cases with law enforcement; evaluates cases for settlement purposes and creates strategies for trial.
• Performs legal research regarding a variety of anticipated legal issues; provides advice to law enforcement staff regarding applicable laws, court decisions and legal authorities.
• Prepares a variety of documentation, such as jury instruction packets, motions, sentencing statements, correspondence and other materials.
• Prepares witness lists; organizes and compiles court exhibits and other evidence in preparation for court and trial and provides for legal discovery of such work.
• Prepares and presents cases to the Yuba County Grand Jury.

This position is responsible for performing transactional paralegal duties related to legal transactions for the Housing Department. The ideal candidate will be a Paralegal experienced in preparation and/or review of real estate loan documents, closing of escrows for real estate financing transactions (including review of preliminary title reports and title policies), will be detail-oriented with good organizational and computer skills, and will have good writing and analytical skills. Typical assignments may include preparation and/or review of real property financing documents and other lender documents, real property acquisition documents, escrow instructions, and consultant and grant agreements. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, drafting and/or reviewing resolutions and ordinances, coordination with City or other government departments or agencies, involvement in the Council agenda process, and responding to public record act requests. The skill level of this position places strong emphasis on accuracy, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills. Incumbents must be proficient in the use of various types of software in the Windows environment.

Depending upon qualifications, the successful candidate may be hired at the Legal Analyst I or Legal Analyst II level. The annual salary range for a Legal Analyst I is $80,676.96 to $98,083.44, and the annual salary range for a Legal Analyst II is $88,058.88 to $107,016.00. Both ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience.

The Office of Racial Equity is hiring an Assistant to the City Manager position to serve as the Inclusion and Belonging Manager for the City of San José.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience and knowledge in:

• Being a bridge-builder with the San José community and trusted to be a local partner on immigrant and refugee issues;

• Familiarity with legislative process, advocacy towards immigration policy and initiatives;

• Serve as a liaison between the City and the immigrant and refugee community;

• Work with the City Manager’s intergovernmental relations team to track local, state, and federal immigration legislation and develop new City policies and programs accordingly;

• Supervise City staff and college interns; and

This is a permanent at-will position with the City Manager’s Office reporting to the Director of the Office of Racial Equity. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese is preferable but not required.

• Upon successful completion of the Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate requirements, incumbents promote to Public Safety Officer I ($117,913 - $136,499).
• Upon successful completion of all phases of training, members of the Public Safety Officer I classification promote to Public Safety Officer II ($124,775 - $155,457 annually).
• This position has an excellent benefit package, including 2.7% at 57 retirement plan.

Under immediate supervision of a Public Safety Lieutenant or Captain, either currently attends the California POST Basic Academy and is learning to perform a wide range of public safety work involving the protection of life and property including law enforcement, crime prevention, fire suppression, rescue, and basic life support activities; or has graduated from the California POST Basic Academy within the last 12 months; and performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 

The position of Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is the training level classification for general police and fire work for those incumbents not affiliated with an agency and currently enrolled in a police academy. Incumbents are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until successful completion of the police academy. Assignment to this classification is temporary. If incumbents do not successfully complete a police academy, they will be terminated.  Incumbents hired after the graduation from the California POST Basic Academy are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until they are promoted to Public Safety Officer I.

Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is distinguished from the higher-level Public Safety Officer I in that the latter is a sworn position where incumbents continue training for both police and fire duties. Incumbents must successfully complete the police academy prior to being promoted to the classification of Public Safety Officer I.

The City Manager’s Office of Racial Equity (ORE) is responsible for advancing a citywide racial equity framework that will examine and improve San José’s internal policies, practices, and systems to eradicate  structural and/or institutional racism that exists in  City government and ultimately improve outcomes for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. ORE will achieve this goal through community engagement, policy analysis and development, trainings, data collection, as well as stronger accountability measures for City departments. ORE also includes Immigrant Affairs which advances the Welcoming San José Plan to create a more welcoming experience for immigrants, and facilitates immigrant inclusion in civic, economic, linguistic, and social aspects of life.

Position and Duties:
Racial Equity Senior Executive Analyst is integral to the City Manager’s Office of Racial Equity.

The ideal candidate will have substantive experience in:

• Communicating and effectively presenting to people of diverse backgrounds throughout the community and organization

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position and Duties:
The City Council has a Digital Inclusion and Broadband Strategy that seeks to accelerate the deployment of wired and wireless broadband for all people while making it more inclusive for the digitally underserved (closing the digital divide).  Executing this strategy requires accelerating Broadband permitting with the telecom providers for small cell, macro cell, and fiber optic infrastructure, working collaboratively with the community on the aesthetics and other community concerns associated with broadband deployment, and managing the day-to-day permitting workflow for the City’s Small Cell and Macro Cell Teams that execute the Permitting and Inspection processes for the City.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager (Senior Executive Analyst) works as a member of the Civic Innovation Team reporting to the Broadband Manager (Assistant to the City Manager) responsible for Broadband and Digital Inclusion.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager directly influences over $1B in private sector investment into the City. This private sector investment creates jobs, increases regional GDP, delivers Smart City capability, and delivers economic opportunities for the digitally under-served.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager role requires a broad set of skills including project management, stakeholder coordination, strategic thinking, contract management, public policy, team leadership, and public collaboration. They will ensure City’s departments fulfill permitting in partnership with telecom providers demand by permitting communications facilities including cell towers, small cells, macro cells, and underground fiber optics, and conduit runs.  This role requires collaboration with various city departments including, but not limited to, other offices within the City Manager’s Office; the Emergency Operations Center; Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement; Fire; Library; Public Works; and the Office of Economic Development. Collaboration with public interest groups, community organizations, and other stakeholders will also be required.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager responsibilities include the following:
• Execute and coordinate broadband permitting service levels across multiple departments with a balance of meeting industry needs and ensuring safe, well designed, and consistent review process.
• Coordinate with City departments involved with broadband deployment.
• Coordinate with the City’s Emergency Operations Center on telecommunications.
• Support Digital Inclusion efforts and oversight of the City’s Digital Inclusion Partnership.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders on community concerns with broadband deployments including individual residents and supporting community outreach.
• Measure weekly permitting performance and compliance with carrier agreement terms to drive improvements and provide clear communication.
• Report progress to senior City staff and telecom staff.
