Reporting to the City Manager, the Director oversees a $26.83 million FY 2024-25 Department budget and 71.96 full-time equivalent employees. The ideal candidate will be an experienced parks and recreation leader who values collaboration and community input, equity, and inclusion. Department staff will appreciate a thoughtful and approachable leader who understands the challenges of delivering diverse programs while planning, building, and maintaining facilities and parks. Experience overseeing public art programs, coordinating safety net services, and more traditional parks and recreation responsibilities is desired.

Are you searching for a position with a variety and challenges in a fast-paced environment?  

At a 24 hour a day police dispatch center, you will be using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal. A Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintaining contact with all units on assignment and maintaining status and location of police field units.
• Coordinating emergency calls (911) and relaying information and assistance requests involving other agencies.
• Entering, updating, and retrieving information from networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information.

ABOUT THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Redwood City’s Finance Department shares an exceptional spirit of camaraderie, always finding ways to bring fun and laughter into the financial backbone of the organization. The Department is made up of two divisions: Revenue Services and Financial Services. The Revenue Services Division manages the City’s utility billing, including water and sewer, and collections, business license administration, tax administration, receipt and deposit of cash and accounts receivable. Team members practice a strong work ethic and attention to detail; celebrate innovation; and seek out continuous improvements to strengthen quality of service and internal controls and streamline processes. Due to the nature of the work, the Revenue Services Division collaborates with other City Departments and delivers high-quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general direction from the Finance Director, plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of staff performing technical and administrative support related to revenue collection activities including tax administration, business license and other license and permit fees, and utility billing; ensures compliance with regulatory, ordinance, and code requirements related to revenue services and collection; administers current and long-term planning activities; manages the effective use of department resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service; provides highly complex and responsible support Finance Department in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.

Salary: $19.49 - $22.57

Hours: 8-30 hours per week 

Join our team of dedicated staff working in the special events division of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation, & Community Services Department. Team members will assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down events all while providing excellent customer service.

Redwood City is known for delivering a large variety of high-quality special events year-round including concerts, festivals, cultural events, kids concerts, pop up recreational activities, and more. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: follow event plan and execute assigned duties effectively and efficiently; understand proper setup and breakdown procedures of special events equipment; maintain and care for equipment as necessary; monitor program areas for quality assurance; operate effectively as a member of a team;  report to supervisors orally and in writing; complete assigned paperwork such as timecards and incident and/or accident reports.

The ideal candidate is passionate about building community through events that offer the public shared experiences in shared spaces. An effective Program Leader represents the service-oriented, positive, and enthusiastic mission of the City of Redwood City while being able to multi-task, demonstrate leadership, and provide superior customer service.

Work schedules can vary during the year pending current event programming. Candidates can expect an average of 15-20 hours per week throughout the year.

The Parks Manager is responsible for the Landscape Maintenance at City owned facilities, 38 parks totaling 189.3 acres and landscaped roadway medians. Redwood City has 2.29 acres per thousand residents of city owned parkland. Park amenities include 10 synthetic turf fields, spray grounds, and the all-inclusive Magical Bridge Playground. The position will oversee a supervisor, 4 landscape teams and a special crafts team.

This is a particularly exciting time to join as the City is developing a number of large parks over the next 5 years. These additions or renovations will bring much needed amenities to various areas of the City. The Parks Manager will be assisting in bringing these park online through plan review, construction progress review and quality control. Park renovations or new parks in process are the Hoover Park project, Downtown Library Park and Bayfront Park. The Department is also finishing an Organizational Assessment that will develop a roadmap for Department staffing over the next 5 years.

Reporting to a Management Analyst, the Community Development Intern will assist with data cleanup and recordkeeping for the City’s permitting software, consideration of equity challenges, and research on neighboring jurisdictions’ policies and procedures. These are examples of the types of projects the Intern will be working on in addition to shadowing routine Management Analyst responsibilities, such as analyzing departmental budget, developing contracts, and strategizing best practices to improve overall customer service. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic people to work within our After School Sports and Mobile Recreation programs operated out of Red Morton Community Center. The hours of this position could be Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-8:30pm during the school year, but nighttime and weekend hours will be mandatory depending on special events and program needs. During the spring and summer, duties will include, but are not limited to, serving as a head coach within our Junior Dribblers basketball program and leading mobile recreation activities at various parks and school sites. This position will report directly to the After School Sports Coordinator.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provide gym/field oversite and coordination at various gyms and school sites within Redwood City; act in the capacity of lead scorekeeper or field supervisor; train new scorekeepers and/or field attendants as needed; possess a firm understanding of league rules and policies; ensure that games and practices operated in a safe, inclusive environment; report any issues immediately to After School Sports Coordinator; address all parent or league issues in a timely and professional manner; maintain and care for all sports and mobile rec equipment; follow departmental and city-wide rules and regulations as they relate to the supervision of sports program and general work procedures; assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department, including but not limited to, facilities, special events, and other youth programs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires weekday and weekend shifts and may include both daytime and evening hours. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. Hours and locations will vary across multiple community centers, and Building Attendants will be required to open and/or close the facility as needed.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: provide excellent customer service to youth, teens, adults, and seniors; oversee the use of the facility insuring that patrons conform to established City and building rental policies and procedures; perform classroom and multi- purpose room set-up and breakdowns for classes, meetings, and building rentals; perform front desk customer service functions; perform minor clean-up as needed including, cleaning bathrooms, floors, windows, counter tops, and emptying garbage; lock and unlock doors; secure building; set up supplies and equipment as dictated by program needs; and perform related duties as assigned.
