Examples of Duties 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• Prepare plans and specifications and estimates for the more difficult and complex engineering work in public works improvements, including streets, facilities, sewer, water, storm drain, traffic, and land development.  

• Issue and administer utility permits, street use permits, franchise utility permits, etc.  

• Review and interpret plans, calculations, and specifications for accuracy of design and completeness, and for conformance to applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.  

• Review and check plans and reports submitted by consultants, architects and engineers for conformance to established standards and specifications.  

• Manage projects.

• Perform field surveys, supervise survey crews.  

• Supervise and assist in the preparation of maps, plans, and layouts; designs, lay out and makes functional studies of the sewage collection and treatment system collection and treatment system, of water distribution and treatment system, and of storm drain conveyance system.  

• Inspect structures under construction.  

• Inspects structural plans and specifications, and makes estimates on time and materials, writes memoranda and prepares reports.  

• Support in the preparation of easements and right-of-way descriptions, assessment district calculations.  

• Prepare correspondence, agreements, contracts, staff reports, and engineering reports relating to city infrastructure or city programs.  

• Support in working with public groups and individuals to resolve community concerns regarding city infrastructure and Capital Improvement Projects. Provide technical engineering information to other City Staff, Agencies, Engineers, Consultants, Contractors and the public.  

• Perform site inspections. • Represent the City with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public.  

• Respect and is sensitive towards the cultural and ethnic diversity of the community.

In addition to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering, plus one year of civil engineering experience including fieldwork, the ideal candidate will possess:

Under general direction, the Workers' Compensation Manager will collaborate with all County employees, their managers, health care providers, the third-party claims administrator, and contractors, as well as the County Attorney's Office and other Human Resources staff to ensure fair, consistent, and timely handling of workers' compensation claims.

In addition, the Workers' Compensation Manager will research, investigate, and analyze workers' compensation and disability claims. The Workers' Compensation Manager will also review, improve, and develop policy and procedures, case summaries, statistical and narrative reports, and training manuals and will serve as the liaison to employees, their managers, and the third-party claims administrator on matters pertaining to workers' compensation, temporary work arrangements, return to work, interactive processes, agreements, and other matters related to industrial injuries and related disabilities.

Education and Experience:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wildfire Resilience Coordinator will manage projects related to the overall MRCA efforts regarding wildfire resilience, including tracking and analyzing existing funding sources related to wildfire preparedness and response, supporting staff project as defined by the early action wildfire resilience plan, coordinating with other MRCA and SMMC staff members working on wildfire related projects and programs, preparing and documenting further regional needs.

 

This position requires a highly motivated, responsible, organized and self-starting individual who can handle an array of tasks at the same time as part of standard workload, has good judgment and can make decisions, and works well independently and as part of a small team.

 

This is professional and technical work pursuant to the terms of grants, contracts, and applicable regulations, involving frequent communication with others. Project managers must also build community and political support, seek funding opportunities, actively cooperate with other government agencies and non­profit organizations, and keep abreast of related planning processes. The work performed will support MRCA’s capital Workprogram for wildfire resilience including improvements, workforce development, ignition prevention and suppression, inspection and monitoring and structure hardening and other MRCA efforts related to public access, open space conservation, habitat restoration, and urban park development. Special projects assigned or led by the Chief of Staff will be supported by this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Implement multiple projects simultaneously: The project manager is the central point of contact on all issues concerning assigned projects and will be responsible for project quality. Perform project tracking, scheduling, and budget management.
• Coordinate between MRCA divisions to track agency-wide wildfire resilience efforts and guide the agency towards accomplishment of big picture wildfire resilience priorities.
• Perform day-to-day administration of grants, prepare required reports and ensure conformance with grant agreements. Analyze, verify and obtain payment approvals for invoices.
• Interagency coordination: Coordinate with Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy grantees to perform tracking and data management on wildfire resilience grants.
• Coordinate with Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, its grantees, and regional stakeholders to advance wildfire resilience efforts in Southern California.
• Determine project scope, options, and alternatives to overcome constraints. Revise as often as needed to address unexpected conditions.
• Demonstrate proactivity to initiate and drive projects, leveraging past experiences, consulting with colleagues, and referencing relevant documentation to successfully launch and manage projects without established precedents.
• Oversee consultants and contractors, manage contracts, coordinate project team and collaborate with coworkers to ensure that the project scope is completed according to grant agreements, schedules, and cost limits. Assist in selection of consultants/contractors.
• Write and coordinate grant proposals and research new funding opportunities for wildfire resilience and workforce development related planning efforts.
• Cooperate with other team members to accomplish project goals; provide support to coworkers on other projects.
• Produce written materials including staff reports, text for publication, proposals, progress reports, and a variety of other documents.
• Write comprehensive reports based on samples, summarizing and analyzing information to provide clear conclusions in the sample's format and style
• Maintain positive relationships with coworkers, representatives of other government agencies, non-profit organizations, homeowner's associations, and the public at large.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, occasionally move about inside the office to access supplies and office machinery, frequently communicate and exchange information, review handwritten, electronic and facsimile documents, observe site conditions, and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions and move between multiple work sites. The employee must occasionally move items weighing up to 20 pounds inside the office.

 

Required Hours And Location

Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week with some scheduling flexibility. Occasional overtime work in evenings or weekends upon prior approval by supervisor. The position will work remotely and out of the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens but may be required to travel to various other locations. Offices at the River Center are spread among multiple buildings and floors.

 

Public Contact

As public parklands, the majority of MRCA properties are open to the general public during operating hours. This position will have contact with members of the public in public areas such as parking lots and shared public/office restrooms, and during public meetings.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

What You'll Do

The Senior Accounting Assistant supervises and performs responsible technical and clerical accounting work involving the maintenance of financial or statistical records in the Finance Department. This is the advanced journey level class in the Accounting Assistant series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Reporting to the Building Official, this specialized classification performs the full range of duties related to building inspection and code compliance activities required to ensure compliance with the City’s Municipal Code as well as the full range of routine to complex inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; investigates citizen complaints of public nuisances and quality of life issues and seeks voluntary compliance or issues citations and initiates abatement procedures; performs inspections at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances, including basic zoning, grading, fire, and safety regulations; reviews applications and conducts inspections on a wide range of business licenses and special events permits such as those for massage establishments, special events, and noise exemptions; and performs related work as required.

City offices operate on a 9/80 schedule: Monday-Thursday for 9 hours, 8-hours one Friday, off/closed the other Friday. This position is located at City Hall, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue; operational hours are 7:30 am-5:00 pm.

ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE ENGINEER

Assistant Engineer: $6,384 - $7,759 monthly (paid bi-weekly - 26 pay periods) hourly starting rate at $36.83

Associate Engineer: $7,045 - $8,564 monthly (paid bi-weekly - 26 pay periods) hourly starting rate at $40.64

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision (Assistant Engineer) or general supervision (Associate Engineer), performs professional and technical engineering work in design, land development, or capital improvements.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Assistant Engineer - This is the entry level class in the engineering series. Positions in this class possess the applicable educational and training background required of classes in the engineering series, yet typically have only limited or unrelated work experience. The Assistant Engineer class is distinguished from the Engineering Associate by the performance of less than the full range of duties as assigned to the journey level class within this series. This class is typically used as a training class. Incumbents work under direct supervision while learning job tasks.

Associate Engineer - This is the journey level class in the engineering series. Positions in this class possess the applicable educational background and work experience required for classes in the engineering series. The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the performance of the full range of duties with only minimal instruction or assistance. Incumbents work independently, seeking assistance only as new or unusual situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Assistant Engineer class.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1.       Perform professional and technical engineering work relative to assigned area of responsibility, such as design, land development, and capital improvements.

2.       Design and prepare plans and specifications for public works projects including pumping stations, streets, storm drains, sewer lines, and related projects; research project design requirements; perform calculations and prepare estimates of time and material costs.

3.       Answer inquiries from realtors, developers, engineers, and the general public.

4.       Develop revised design and construction standards for public works structures and appurtenances.

5.       Serve as construction inspector to ensure compliance on City projects, subdivisions, and encroachments.

6.       Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations; resolve problems or refer as appropriate; coordinate or perform field work associated with infrastructure projects.

7.       Administer contracts; coordinate and review the work of outside consultants; review and recommend payments and billing for contracted services related to assigned projects.

8.       Write legal descriptions for right of way and easement dedications.

9.       Issue encroachment, water, and sewer permits.

10.    Request and participate in the collection of survey and mapping data.

11.    Prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.

12.    Participate in the plan check, review, and processing of plans for private developments affecting City streets, sewers, drains and related public works facilities; assure compliance with appropriate codes, ordinances, rules and regulations.

13.    Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the field of municipal engineering; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.

14.    Prepare visual presentations and reports.

15.    Prepare special engineering studies and reports.

16.    Coordinate public works activities with other City departments, divisions and sections and with outside agencies.

17.    Perform related duties as required.

POSITION

Perform routine non-hazardous police office activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

** These positions work alternate shifts which will cover a 24-hour operation.  Successful applicants may be required to work alternative hours, which may include swing shift, graveyard shift, including weekends and/or holidays. **

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Law Enforcement organizational structure. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer conflict resolution skills, and writing skills, as well as be competent with computers and related software, e.g., report management, and MS Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of principles, codes, regulations and laws governing records management of a police department.  Additionally, the Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, ability to multitask, prioritize, knowledge of complex filing systems, and be available for shift work.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  Processes and maintains a variety of police records, files, forms, and manuals. Issues, receives, types, and processes various applications, permits, and other forms; processes warrants, permits, and citations; collects and processes fees and charges. Entries and modifications into a state and nationwide system. Processes police reports including receiving, reviewing, copying, distributing, filing, and making corrections as applicable. Logs subpoenas; collects, posts, and distributes department mail.  Answers a multi-line telephone system, providing information or routing calls to appropriate individuals. Greets the general public, giving information on the department and answering routine questions. Types, proofreads, and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and legal documents. Operates standard office equipment including computer remote terminals. Creates and maintains files and databases. Provides fingerprint services for applicants and voluntary bookings. Performs related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

File routine reports and correspondence; perform general clerical duties using typewriter and word processor.  Respond to citizen requests for information and assistance.  Complete minor reports as required. Retrieve and input data into computer terminal. Receive calls and take messages. Accumulate data and prepare monthly statistical reports.  Process requests for copies of reports from both citizens and other criminal justice agencies. Inventory supplies and order when necessary.  Process monies and fees via the cash register, prepare licenses and permits, prepare and issue bills, complete citation sign-offs.  Prepare correspondences to victims of crime.  Complete and prepare background and record checks.  Process voluntary bookings and court ordered registrations.  Perform fingerprinting and Live Scan digital printing.  Assist in the transportation of property and evidence. Assist in preparation for the auction of property. Purge files. Provide relief for full-time Community Services Officers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of general administrative office work experience OR six (6) months of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California driver’s license required upon hire.
