About The Position:

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Deputy Sheriff’s perform a wide variety of patrol officer and related duties required to effectively respond to and resolve the normal scope of peace situations, including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, report writing, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public and perform related duties as assigned. The Department:
The responsibilities of the City Attorney's Office broadly consist of representing and advising the City Council, City officials, and employees of all City departments in all matters of law pertaining to their offices and departments. This includes appearing on behalf of the City in legal actions or proceedings, providing the City Council with information and advice on wide range of legal matters including litigation and new legislation, and staffing City Council and City Board and Commission meetings as necessary. The City Attorney's Office provides legal advice and support on matters initiated by the City Council, City Manager's Office, and all City departments. Typical work includes research and opinion on various issues; review and negotiation of contracts, leases, or permits; drafting employee policies; review and drafting of resolutions, ordinances, and agenda reports; and preparation of responses to Public Records Act requests.
 
The Position:
The City is recruiting to fill one (1) Assistant City Attorney position. Ideally, the position will be assigned to act as the primary advisor to the City’s Human Resources Department, with additional general municipal areas of work for other departments including but not limited to finance, governance, conflicts of interest, open meetings, and public records.
 
The position is expected to perform a wide variety of legal services ranging from litigation (or litigation management) of  administrative matters (such as internal disciplinary appeals, PERB UPC charges, and CalPERS determinations) to collective bargaining and MOU review/drafting; legal research and drafting opinions; negotiating contracts; drafting disciplinary documents; drafting resolutions and ordinances; providing on-call legal support to all divisions of the Human Resources Department (records, benefits, testing, classification, labor, workers compensation, recruitment, safety, risk management, etc.); and, staffing commission meetings such as the Civil Service Commission and Salary Setting Commission. This position is also expected to perform other duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will have superior legal analytical ability and excellent research, writing and oral communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with City employees, opposing counsel, elected and appointed officials, and members of the public.
 
The ideal candidate will also have experience defending  allegations of misconduct in personnel matters, significant experience advising on human resource issues, including Fair Labor Standards Act, Meyers-Milias-Brown Act, labor negotiations, California Public Employees’ Retirement Law, state and federal benefits/leave laws, state and federal employment-related tax laws, and experience providing training in laws, regulations, policies and best practices in personnel management and workplace misconduct

This is a professional position in the Unclassified Service, is an “at-will” position, and the incumbent serves at the discretion of the City Manager. This position is responsible for performing a broad range of duties, which deal with more complex issues. An incumbent in this classification must exercise independent judgment and discretion; manage, control, and direct employees; and formulate administrative policies for the effective use of assigned personnel. The position requires a demonstrated ability to work well with management, professional and administrative support employees in the Office; with clients, professionals, managers, City’s executive management team and all City Departments and elected and appointed officials from the City and various boards, commissions, and committees. An incumbent in this classification must demonstrate strong ethical, professional, and service-oriented leadership and interpersonal skills, set a good example; and correctly apply and abide by the tenets of the City’s Code of Ethics and Values.

The annual salary range for this position is $213,185.04 - $275,895.96.  This position will be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.
 

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE
• J.D. or L.L.B. from an accredited law school;
• Six (6) years recent experience in the general practice of law.  Four (4) years of the qualifying experience must include dealing with municipal, county or state governmental agencies in the State of California;
• One year of supervisory experience is desirable; and
• Trial experience is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATION
• Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California is required;
• Admission to the Federal District Court and Federal Appeals Court Bar is desirable.

LICENSE:
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license is required.

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an employment list for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher within the Sheriff’s Department.  The incumbent receives 9-1-1 system sheriff, fire, medical emergency and rescue calls; dispatches sheriff, fire and medical personnel following established procedures; maintains communication with officers in the field to ensure safety and provide back-up and information; provides relief coverage for the records unit; and performs related work as assigned. These classifications require shift work and the ability to make decisions and act appropriately in stressful situations. The work also involves interdepartmental cooperation with various public safety agencies located throughout the County to coordinate the most effective response to requests for assistance from the public.

The Sunnyvale City Attorney's Office seeks a qualified attorney to fill one vacancy. The position will provide complex professional legal services supporting City departments, boards and commissions, and City Council, and may represent the City in administrative and judicial actions.  Significant experience in the practice of general municipal law, including working knowledge in at least one or more of the following areas, is required: environmental regulation and compliance (including CEQA), stormwater regulation, Clean Water Act, election law, Brown Act, the Public Records Act, Conflict of Interest law, public contracting, real estate transactions, land use, housing, public sector labor and employment, law enforcement, code enforcement, and/or municipal litigation. Experience staffing public meetings and/or willingness to do so is a plus.

The Sunnyvale City Attorney’s Office consists of five attorneys, including the City Attorney, and two support staff. The vacancy being filled is due to the appointment of a long-serving attorney in the office to City Attorney in May 2024. The ideal Police Lieutenant candidate will possess education, experience, training and perspective to help support the department’s direction and ensure its ongoing success. Minimum qualifications for the position include: 

• Possess of, and ability to maintain a valid State of California POST Peace Officer Certification
• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience as a Police Officer including eighteen (18) months supervisory law enforcement experience as a member of a city police department, a county sheriff’s department, a regional park district, a district authorized by statute to maintain a police department, or the California Highway Patrol; and must have successfully completed the required probationary period for the required supervisory position currently or most recently occupied.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is seeking a part-time/temporary Police Evidence and Property Technician.  General supervision is provided by the Police Civilian Supervisor.  Responsibilities include processing, storing, and controlling evidence and other property received or confiscated by the Police Department; classifies and compares fingerprints; maintains property and evidence files and records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Receives, logs, stores, and maintains property and evidence in accordance with Department procedures; transports evidence for forensic examination; maintains evidence rooms in an organized condition.
• Verifies inventories of evidence and property received and/or confiscated by Police Department.
• Reviews evidence and analysis forms for errors and omissions and assists with corrections.
• Determines purge dates for property and evidence; releases or disposes of property and evidence in accordance with applicable laws and court orders; prepares and sends letters to property owners for claim; releases property to rightful owner; prepares surplus and unclaimed property for disposal or auction.
• Prepares property and evidence for court trials; releases property to authorized persons; tracks chain of custody of evidence items; testifies in court regarding evidence chain of custody.
• Assists in determining evidence analysis requirements; provides training in proper evidence and packaging procedures.
• Evaluates suitability of latent fingerprints for automated system.
• Reviews and files photographic evidence.
• Responds to outside agency requests for evidence, status and chain of custody.
• Prepares a variety of property and evidence reports.
• Assists in other police service support work.
• Establishes and maintains inventory systems.
• Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO: 

• Property and evidence storage, filing, retrieval and recordkeeping systems.
• Laws related to processing, storage, release and disposal of property and evidence.

What You'll Do

The Dispatch Services Supervisor will plan, organize and supervise the operation of the Dispatch Services Unit in the Technical Services Division of the Police Department.  This position will also assist in the preparation and monitoring of the Unit’s budget, coordinate the Emergency Mobile Communications Van activities, and provide technical staff assistance to Department staff. The primary duties of this position may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Coordinate and assist in formulating policies and procedures for the Dispatch Unit, including the incorporation of procedures required by other local jurisdictions served.
• Direct, coordinate and review the work plan for Dispatch Services, and develop methods for improvement of service delivery.
• Assume responsibility for all dispatch personnel matters including: selection, assignment and prioritization of work; training; evaluation; and effective input concerning disciplinary matters.
• Prepare work schedules to provide for adequate coverage on all shifts; prepare and approve time off and overtime schedules.
• Respond to inquiries and complaints concerning dispatch operations and personnel.
• Perform dispatch duties as needed
• Assist in the development of the Unit budget; monitor and, as appropriate, approve expenditures.
• Establish and maintain effective communications with other Department units, other City departments and applicable agencies at all government levels; and assist in the development of emergency-related plans and procedures.
• Coordinate the maintenance and repair of dispatch equipment with other City personnel, contractors and vendors.
• Prepare various reports of operations and activities; supervise maintenance of operational records and files.
• Serve as the Custodian of Records for Dispatch Services.
• Represent the Unit at applicable meetings and conferences; attend seminars and workshops.

The Dispatch Services Supervisor receives direction from the Police Technical Services Administrator or higher level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over dispatchers and other assigned staff.
