What You’ll Do

The Communications Manager will develop and execute the City of San Mateo’s communication plan, which will include key actions to enhance community engagement and participation, increase community awareness about City activities and initiatives, foster cross-departmental coordination and unity, standardize media response procedures, improve the website user experience, and standardize training and onboarding for new communications staff. You will also lead the City’s efforts to strengthen and expand its online and social media presence and work with community leaders and partners to help enhance San Mateo’s positive reputation. The Communications Manager receives general direction from the City Manager and/or Assistant City Manager, has direct supervisory responsibilities, and will lead collaborative teams.

Some duties may include: 
•    Lead the City’s social media efforts and cross departmental social media team; develop and coordinate implementation of the City’s social media strategy, policies and presence and monitor the City’s online reputation 
•    Develop and implement an integrated strategic communication plan to advance the City’s brand identity and broaden awareness of its programs, priorities and accomplishments; ensure communication strategies are consistent with the City’s strategic plan and vision. 
•    Create and manage a decentralized communications team to support the departments’ communications needs and the development and execution of the communications strategy. 
•    Anticipate and identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization; work with the senior management team and staff to recognize communications opportunities and design and execute appropriate strategies to address them. 
•    Develop and oversee mechanisms to measure the success and continuously improve the quality of the City’s communications. 
•    Oversee development and dissemination of print communications (including the annual report, marketing collateral materials) and electronic communications (including the City’s website, social media and new media) and manage relationships with associated vendors. 
•    Serve as spokesperson and lead contact on media interactions; build and manage press relationships to achieve accurate coverage of City events, public announcements, projects and programs. 
•    Prepare talking points, presentations, speeches and other supporting material as needed. 
•    Manage the City’s website, including content strategy, integrated messaging, creative direction and analytics. 
•    Collaborate with departments to plan and coordinate public meetings, surveys and other outreach efforts to better understand community views regarding potential City decisions, satisfaction with City services and preferences for engaging with the City.

DEFINITION:

Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and provides direction and oversight for all functions and activities of the Planning Department, including current and advanced planning, code enforcement, building permits, economic development, environmental sustainability, open space acquisition and management, and housing; coordinates assigned activities with other Town departments and outside agencies; other assigned duties, and provides complex administrative support to the Town Manager.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This is a department head classification that oversees, directs and participates in all activities of the Planning Department, including short- and long-term planning, development and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and services.  This class serves as the Town’s professional expert on all matters related to the activities of the Planning Department.  Successful performance of the work requires knowledge of the public policy, municipal functions and activities, and the ability to develop, oversee, and implement projects and programs in a variety of areas.  Responsibilities include: coordinating the activities of the department with those of other local departments and agencies, managing and overseeing the complex and varied functions of the department, and ensuring that services provided are of the highest quality. The incumbent is accountable for accomplishing departmental planning and operational goals and objectives, and for furthering Town goals and objectives within general policy guidelines.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

This position works under the general guidance of the Town Manager and exercises general direction and supervision over professional, technical, and administrative support staff.

This position within the Agricultural Department assists with performing a variety of tasks primarily related to agriculture and weights and measures. This includes weights and measures programs, pest detection, noxious weed control, pest exclusion, pest eradication, pesticide use enforcement, seed law, nursery, and apiary programs. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week. 
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Operate pest detection trapping routes and conduct pest surveys; collect and submit specimens for identification. 
• Conduct surveys and compile noxious weed location records; service and maintain spray equipment.
• Assist in livestock scale testing, test and seal retail motor fuel dispensers and other petroleum meters. 
• Perform minor repairs on traps and equipment, clean traps and equipment.
• Maintain inventory on traps and equipment.
• Perform a variety of administrative technical work in the department to which assigned.

The City of Saratoga is currently recruiting a full-time Administrative Analyst I position reporting to the Director of Administrative Services. Under general supervision, the Analyst's primary responsibilities will be building and maintaining the City’s operating and capital budgets ($44.6M, 56.5 FTEs), managing special projects, providing staff reports, and handling various administrative duties.

A Water Service Technician I performs routine water service duties and is responsible for the maintenance and testing of water meters, backflow prevention devices, and fire services, as well as the handling of customer complaints and service requests.

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements:
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• One (1) year of experience in a water utility performing service work including the servicing, testing, and repairing of water meters or one (1) year of approved related technical experience with mechanical instruments

LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required.

CERTIFICATION
Possession of the following certificates is required within twelve (12) months of, and for the duration of, appointment:
• A valid Water Distribution Operator Certificate (Grade D-1 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services; and
• A valid Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate issued by the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association or the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research

The Opportunity: The Town of Los Gatos is recruiting for a Planner at the Associate or Senior level to perform a variety of professional planning work, research and analysis related to the Town’s Planning and Zoning Ordinances and assignments associated with land use, infrastructure, economic development, and the environment. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, as well as the physical, social, and economic concepts underlying planning functions, and the ability to present and explain these concepts to the public, is required. Planners are required to attend evening meetings and make public presentations to the Planning Commission, Town Council, and other stakeholders. 

 

• Associate Planner is the experienced journey level of the Planner series. Incumbents are assigned increasingly complex tasks, including planning projects of moderate complexity and scope. Work is performed in accordance with policies established by the Department Director, but considerable scope exists in which professional judgment may be exercised and technical decisions made. Incumbents are responsible for planning work that is technically difficult and requires the ability to independently interpret policies and to exercise sensitivity to public concerns.  
   
• Senior Planner is the advanced and supervisory classification of the Planner series. Incumbents are responsible for difficult planning work. Work is performed in accordance with policies established by the Department Director, but a great degree of latitude is given to exercise professional judgment and to make technical decisions. The Senior Planner supervises technical staff and manages large and complex planning projects involving difficult and sensitive policy issues. Senior Planners supervise and coordinate the work of assistant planners, planning technicians, and/or interns. 

Schedule: The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, with evening meetings. This position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule. 

 

The Seasonal Ranger Assistant falls under the general direction of the Chief Ranger and will support Park Staff and Rangers in maintaining the natural beauty and safety of the Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority’s various parks and open spaces. JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Required Hours and Location

This position is seasonal with an assigned 10-hour shift on Fridays and optional 10-hour shifts on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday as needed.  This position will terminate at or before 900 hours and is intended to run concurrently with the Background Investigation and Hiring process for Ranger Trainee, for Seasonal Ranger Assistants who communicate an interest in doing so within the introductory period of the season. Must be available to work at various locations.

 

Public Contact

As public parklands, the majority of MRCA properties are open to the general public during operating hours. This position will have contact with members of the public in public areas such as parking lots and shared public/office restrooms, and during public meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the essential functions. Education and Experience

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
