THE DEPARTMENT

The Fire Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City which are staffed 24-hours per day, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower. Two fire stations have paramedic ambulances. The City of South San Francisco is the only Fire Department in San Mateo County providing its own paramedic transport services. The Paramedic ambulances respond to medical emergencies, as well as structure fires and other hazardous incidents. The department cross-staffs a Type I/Heavy Urban Search and Rescue, an OES Type VI Engine, and two Rescue Boats.

The Fire Department is an active participant in the San Mateo County automatic aid system and responds regularly in support of neighboring jurisdictions throughout the county, including the San Francisco International Airport.  Department members are eligible to participate on FEMA USAR California Task Force 3, sponsored by the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.  The department is also an active participant in the Bay Area Maritime Search and Rescue Council and regularly trains with other fire agencies and the United States Coast Guard.  

The City is planning for the replacement and expansion of two of its existing fire stations, modernizing and relocating the facilities to better serve the public.

In support of the San Mateo County automatic aid agreement, all entry level candidates will attend a regional, county-wide, fire academy where they will be introduced to all agencies in the county and rotate through a variety of training sites.  The roughly 12-week academy also includes specialized training depending on candidate certifications.  The next academy is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2023 through a partnership with the College of San Mateo.

THE POSITION

An eligible employment list will be created for the position of Paramedic/Firefighter, and will be used to fill current and future vacancies.  This classification encompasses the full range of firefighter duties and Paramedic Ambulance Transport Services.  Incumbents currently work a 2/4 work schedule with a 24-day work cycle (2/24 hour shifts with 4 days off). Training is provided to protect life, property, and the environment from the risks of fire, explosion, and hazardous materials.

Incumbents perform paramedic ambulance transport services, engage in medical aid, firefighting, and all other suppression and prevention activities to protect life and property; drive, operate, and maintain fire apparatus and equipment; assist and participate in training, inspections, and related fire prevention and public education activities.

Qualifications

Education: Master's of Library Science or recognized equivalent degree, from an American Library Association accredited college or university.

Experience: Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is two to three years of experience as a librarian, or a combination of library and supervision experience.

The Position

Under supervision, performs general janitorial and maintenance duties related to the cleaning and upkeep of assigned buildings and facilities; sets up and removes tables, chairs and equipment for meetings; and performs a variety of tasks relative to an assigned area of responsibility. Building Maintenance Worker I is the entry-level performing the more routine and less complex building maintenance assignments. Building Maintenance Worker II is the full journey level performing the full range of building maintenance duties including semi-skilled maintenance tasks.

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. As a result of its proximity to neighboring jurisdictions, the employees of the Suisun City Police Department remain extremely busy as they address the needs of the community. The Position: Under the direction of the Police Support Services Manager, acts as working first-line supervisor overseeing and participating in the preparation, processing, storing, retention, and disposition of police records and property and evidence, and the police and fire dispatching functions; supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for providing assigned Police Department support services and activities; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

DUTIES:

• Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and participates in the work of assigned staff in Police Department support services functions including dispatch, records, and property/evidence; assists in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures; reviews and approves work schedules including time off and authorizing timecards.

• Receives, classifies, and prioritizes incoming calls to the dispatch center including 911 calls and business line calls received from citizens requesting service or information; operates a variety of public safety communications equipment including 911 emergency telephone equipment, computer aided dispatch systems, and multi-channel radio systems; dispatches police and fire units and personnel.

• Evaluates response necessary as dictated by a given request for service; determines nature, location, and priority of calls; operates computer aided dispatch system to create calls for service within response criteria guidelines; assigns and dispatches appropriate police, fire, or other emergency vehicles, equipment, and personnel in accordance with policies and procedures; transfers calls to other appropriate agency in accordance with established procedures; obtains and dispatches other support services as necessary.

City of Livermore - Supervising Librarian (Youth Services)

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of term-limited, full-time Sustainability Librarian in Adult Services with energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment and a strong interest in sustainability. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, using state-of the-art technology to develop library content, and selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection. The Sustainability Librarian works under the direction of the Supervising Librarian and other management staff in a team-oriented and forward-thinking environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

A Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.

Reporting to the Building Official, this specialized classification performs the full range of duties related to building inspection and code compliance activities required to ensure compliance with the City’s Municipal Code as well as the full range of routine to complex inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; investigates citizen complaints of public nuisances and quality of life issues and seeks voluntary compliance or issues citations and initiates abatement procedures; performs inspections at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances, including basic zoning, grading, fire, and safety regulations; reviews applications and conducts inspections on a wide range of business licenses and special events permits such as those for massage establishments, special events, and noise exemptions; and performs related work as required.

City offices operate on a 9/80 schedule: Monday-Thursday for 9 hours, 8-hours one Friday, off/closed the other Friday. This position is located at City Hall, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue; operational hours are 7:30 am-5:00 pm.
