The Thousand Oaks Library is in search of a Library Assistant who will be a key player in the Technical Services of the Access Services Division. This role offers a unique opportunity to perform a diverse range of library-related clerical duties, from ordering and invoicing to cataloging and processing. Primary Responsibilities:

• Instruct, coordinate, and schedule Library Pages or volunteers on library procedures; assist with scheduling and overseeing activities. 
• Participates in overseeing the day-to-day operations and services of Technical Services from acquisitions, receiving, and invoicing to cataloging and processing. 
  • Acquisitions: place orders with vendors, ensure orders are received physically and in Sierra, the Library Services Platform; resolve damaged items issues; manage canceled titles; find alternate vendors to fulfill the order. Liaise between vendors and staff to meet the needs of the library. 
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks to ensure invoices accurately reflect goods received; post weekly to update the Fund Report in the integrated library system. 
  • Perform copy cataloging of physical materials, including books, DVDs, or Spoken Word, following existing procedures based on industry-established cataloging standards to update bibliographic records. 
• Ability to interpret general library policies and procedures and apply knowledge using sound judgment 
  • Establish, maintain, and update accurate records and files  
• Technical knowledge 
  • Learn and effectively utilize various computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library Services Platform
• Ability to lift, drag, and push/pull files, paper, books, and documents weighing in excess of 25 pounds

The Wastewater Collection Systems Worker performs a variety of routine to skilled work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including wastewater collection, stormwater and drainage, and related systems. The successful candidate will use and operate a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment to perform skilled and specialized work on drainage, collection, and related systems, and appurtenances, and perform related work as required. The department may hire at either the I or the II level depending on the skills, certifications, and licenses held by the pool of qualified applicants.

Per Diem Librarian I

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

The library is looking for someone who embodies the City of San Mateo’s shared values of respect, creativity, inclusivity, transparency, and integrity to perform a wide variety of library work.

Responsibilities include serving at the Library’s information desks at the Main Library and branches; researching and responding to difficult or technical reference questions; advising and assisting Library patrons; demonstrating the use of on-line library catalogs, databases and other user aids; performing bibliographic searches using online and/or print resources; and performing other tasks as assigned such as assisting with programming and collection management.

SALARY:             $36.90 per hour (Step 1). This position is considered part time and offers limited benefits after working a specified number of hours.

HOURS:              Below are the schedules for the Per Diem Librarian I position. These schedules may be changed in the future to meet the operational needs of the Library. A Sunday shift (1:00-5:00 pm) is required each two-month period.

QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university is required; previous public library experience desirable but not required.  Successful Live Scan fingerprint background check. 

KNOWLEDGE OF: Modern professional principles and practices of library science; modern procedures, methods, techniques, and sources used in a library work; standard library technology, library automation, computers, software and library procedures; excellent customer service techniques and practices; resources and practices applicable to area of assignment. 

ABILITY TO: Operate computerized cataloging and bibliographic databases; assist library patrons in response to reference and related library questions; implement and enforce Library and City policies and procedures; work well with the public; establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; work shifts as assigned.

ADA Special Requirement:  Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: ability to work in a standard library environment; ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, twist, lift 40 pounds and push/pull 200 pounds.

The Librarian I/II position available is an hourly, non-benefited, assignment which operates out of the Library|Parks & Recreation Center and may also include shifts at the Grand Avenue Branch Library.

The City of Patterson is currently recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy for a part-time Facility Custodian with the Recreation & Community Services Department and to establish an Eligibility List.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under general supervision, performs routine custodial and cleaning duties in municipal buildings and adjacent grounds; performs related work as assigned.

MAINTENANCE TRAINEE – PARKS & GROUNDS

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Maintenance Trainee – Is an entry-level trainee position. Incumbents learn to perform the full scope of duties of the Maintenance I class. This class is alternately staffed with Maintenance I and incumbents may advance to the higher-level class after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain City parks and trail system to ensure facilities are safe and usable; inspect, clean, and stock park restrooms; remove refuse from City garbage cans.
• Plant, cultivate, and provide upkeep for City landscapes and parks; mow lawns, replant vegetation, and prune trees, shrubs, and ground covers.
• Prepare and apply pesticides, growth regulators, and fertilizers; identify and appropriately label the containers when using these materials; document materials used.
• Paint, sandblast, or otherwise remove graffiti from public properties; paint interiors/exteriors.
• Attend technical and safety on-the-job training sessions; carry out what is learned in the classroom/tailgate training on the job; fill out accident reports if involved in an accident.
• Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools used in landscaping, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, concrete work, and welding activities.
• Operate and maintain various pieces of medium to heavy equipment including trucks, tractors, chippers, backhoes, skiploaders, mowers, sandblasters, and trailers.
• Inspect irrigation systems; repair and renovate the systems by rebuilding and/or installing timers, clocks, wires, pipes, joints, valves, and heads.
• Control weeds throughout the City.

MAINTENANCE I – PARKS & GROUNDS

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Maintenance I classification represents the journey-level within the Parks and Grounds Maintenance class series. Individuals within this class exhibit comprehensive proficiency in independently carrying out a spectrum of Parks & Grounds maintenance responsibilities. This entails not only performing tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining City parks, landscape areas, and trail systems, but also making informed decisions regarding safety and usability. The Maintenance I role stands apart from Maintenance II, the lead-level in the series, as Maintenance II holds responsibility for overseeing the tasks performed by a crew engaged in parks and grounds maintenance.
