The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails performing participant or event rental check-in and reception duties, opening and closing facilities, general janitorial services including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, bathrooms, room set-up and break-down, field preparation by dragging, chalking, placing bases, hole filling, safety checks, restroom opening/closing as well as restocking and general cleaning, working in concessions, stocking, preparing, and selling food during tournaments and league play. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

This job entails assisting with planning and leading program activities, supervising youth in arts, crafts, games and sports, performing participant check-in, reception duties, and assisting with equipment set-up, take down and housekeeping, chaperoning participants on field trips, and opening and closing facilities. San Mateo Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduling Specialist for a Full-Time, Extra-help position for the Surgery Department. The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides technical, complex and specialized administrative support to surgeons and patients scheduled for surgery, which includes interaction with operating room staff and patients; handles multiple competing priorities; interacts with diverse customer groups; handles multiple patient-related tasks such as tracking patient financials to ensure information is correctly entered; and moves patients from the clinic to the operating room, including all pre-operative processes necessary for the patients prior to surgery, pre-op process sheets and clinic schedules, data entry of items into the operative database, financial reconciliation, and post-op order sets, and may have some responsibilities for ordering supplies or equipment.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex medical terminology to a variety of people with varying levels of medical knowledge. In addition, they would possess skills in conflict resolution, and problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with challenging patients, and patients who may have a language or communication barrier. This position will require attention to detail, and therefore the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
 
NOTE: The ability to speak, read and write in fluent English and Spanish is preferred for this position.
 
 Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Tracking patient financials to be sure they are correctly entered.
• Scheduling patients in the procedure clinic.  
• Updating the pre-op process sheet and clinic schedule in the computer.
• Entering data into the operative database.
• Interfacing between the Operating Room and Surgeon.
• Ability to schedule patients using the OR manager program.

NOTE: This Job Announcement was edited on May 16, 2023 regarding the definition of the extra help assignment. This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Medical terminology as related to patient services support work.
• Policies and procedures related to patient services office support and hospital or clinic business office activities.
• Office administrative practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
• Basic business data processing principles and the use of word processing or computing equipment.
• Proper form for typed materials.
• Business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals.
• Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Record keeping principles and procedures.

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

The PEO will use a computer to make entries, update and make corrections to information and keep a variety of detailed logs and files, while also using a variety of law enforcement communication equipment.  In addition to issuing warnings and citations, the PEO may testify in court regarding citations issued and other events.  These duties will be performed under general supervision and when assigned, working with other staff. The majority of the workday will be spent on the field (i.e., outside) in various weather conditions.

A typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week including weekends, nights, and holidays.  The PEO is a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward is required daily.

Occupational Therapist II is the experienced journey level class in this series. Incumbents in this class perform the full range of general therapy treatments with a greater degree of independence and proficiency, additionally applying more specialized and advanced therapy treatments. Some individuals may also assist in providing technical advice and training to less experienced staff.
The ideal candidate has graduated from an accredited occupational therapy curriculum and is licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the California Board of Occupational Therapy and registered with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. They will also possess a Certificate of completion for a course in Basic Life Support as approved by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. San Mateo Medical Center and its clinics are currently seeking well-qualified candidates for Physical Therapist II to provide outpatient and/or inpatient services at San Mateo Medical Center - Main Campus in San Mateo, CA. Currently, there is a Limited-Term, Full-Time vacancy and an Extra-Help, part-time vacancy. 

These positions would provide outpatient and/or inpatient services physical therapy evaluations and treatments for a variety of orthopedic and neurologic conditions.

Physical Therapists manage patients with a wide range of diagnoses, chronic and acute, and are part of a dynamic treatment team. In addition, Physical Therapists identify patient challenges and develop goals and a care plan with reasonable outcomes for the individual's life/work settings. Daily opportunities are created in this assignment through the variety of illnesses/injuries seen in our patient population.

Physical Therapists work at SMMC as part of a County rehabilitation program, which provides evaluation, education and treatment. The therapeutic program at SMMC is oriented toward inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic problems while providing therapy to inpatients with a need for long or short-term rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of one year of work experience providing care in an outpatient setting with an interest in covering inpatient when the census justifies. Ability to work weekends and/or holiday coverage when necessary is also strongly preferred.
