The Public Service Assistant (PSA) II is assigned to the Police Department’s Red-Light Camera Unit. Under direct supervision of the Traffic Enforcement Project Specialist, the Public Service Assistant II will perform administrative tasks in support of the Police Department’s Red-Light Camera Unit. This position is a temporary/part-time appointment and may work up to 20 hours a week.

Examples of job duties include:

• Order and prepare court packets of red-light violation from Red Flex for review by court commissioner and defendants.
• Research and understand several sections of the vehicle, government and evidence code as it pertains to red light violations.
• Prepare trial by written declaration packets.
• Research and print out DMV information, including photos and convictions for case files.
• Assist with conducting enforcement sign and equipment verifications.
• Assist with verifying yellow light timing with city Traffic Engineers.
• Assist with review and maintenance of court evidence binders.
• Uploading case file evidence.
• Research statistical studies and assist in report preparation.

Under general supervision, to receive and transmit routine and emergency telephone, radio and computer messages; to keep a variety of police records; and to do related work as required.

Hours of Work: Public Safety Dispatchers typically work 12 hours shifts, with 4 work days one week and 3 work days the following week.  Shifts available area a day and night shift, or variation, that can rotate every six months.  Dispatchers may have to work weekends, holidays and overtime. 

Special Conditions: Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited high school (GED may be substituted for a high school diploma); plus
• One year of successful full-time responsible experience performing work where the essential functions of the job involved public contact, computer usage or heavy telephone traffic.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION:

• Typing Certificate certifying a minimum of 40 wpm dated within one year of the application date; AND
• Criticall Dispatcher test with a passing score dated within one year of the application date; OR

THE POSITION:

THE POSITION:

This can be a stressful and demanding job located within the Police Department requiring shift work, weekend and holiday duty.  Although hours vary, this is an on-call, as-needed position that is paid hourly.  Using RIMS (Records Information Management System), per diem dispatchers dispatch police and transfer calls to Fire & EMS under emergency conditions; receive residential alarm calls and take calls of an emergency and non-emergency nature from citizens; greets public and assists at the front counter.  Dispatchers must remain calm and tactful under trying conditions, remembering detailed information, and thinking clearly while performing several tasks at once.

To maintain familiarity with the Atherton Police Dispatch Center, we can offer guaranteed 16 hours of shifts spread over a few days per month. You'll provide break relief while also getting a chance to work with another dispatcher. Since we may not always have many shifts available, expectations would be that you would also assist with open shifts/sick calls as needed and not just rely on the 16 hours.
