Position Duties

The City of San Jose, Animal Care and Services Division is seeking Veterinarians to work at the Animal Care Center, including one Full-time,part-time, and/or relief in either/or, shelter medicine and/or the shelter’s public high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic. The Animal Shelter Veterinarian may perform all aspects of shelter medicine in a large animal shelter. Duties may include routine spay/neuter surgeries on cats, dogs, and other animals as indicated. This position provides direct care and treatment of homeless animals entering the City of San Jose’s Animal Care Center.
 
In addition, this position is required to diagnose, treat, and/or recommend euthanasia. Registered Veterinary Technicians will be assigned to assist this position with the preparation and post-surgery processes of spay/neuter and other surgical procedures. This is a position reporting to the Shelter Manager of Animal Care and Services. This classification is represented by City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP).

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Directs, coordinates and performs the screening, diagnosis, and basic and emergency medical treatment of animals in the shelter.
•  Performs or supervises the visual monitoring of impounded animals, including those that may be isolated or quarantined for signs of illness or unusual behavior.
•  Performs surgical procedures, including spay/neuters and vaccinates animals to prevent diseases. 
•  Maintains accurate medical records of animals.
•  Effectively communicates the condition and status of animals with staff, public and animal groups. 
•  Advises staff on matters within the veterinary field.
•  Orders, maintains and controls the drugs used at the shelter and in the field.
• Trains appropriate staff in administering first aide and vaccinations to animals, the performance of euthanasia and other paramedical duties.
• Performs and directs staff to perform euthanasia of animals that are irremediably suffering from serious illness or severe injury, as necessary
• Ensures that shelter staff participates in a comprehensive disease prevention program for the animal shelter. 
• Participates in special spay/neuter or vaccination clinics.
• Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; providing technical guidance to staff; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
• Ensures compliance of activities to codes and all legal regulations.

Position Duties

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill a Senior Systems Applications Programmer (Sr. SAP) position to support Animal Care and Services (ACS). The focus of this position is to develop and maintain technology solutions that will maximize the effective delivery of City services.  

Salary range(s) for this classification is $123,658.08 - $150,368.40 annually. This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:  

• Manage enterprise databases, including developing complex queries, data cleansing, integration, and reporting. 

• Develop and maintain intelligent dashboards and reports using business intelligence reporting and analytics software, including Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and SAP Crystal Reports. 

• Build integrations between various business systems and platforms, including on-premises and SaaS platforms. 

• Administer on-premises client-server applications and various web-based applications and subscription services. 

• Interact with business staff and end users to gather requirements, coordinate validation, conduct training, provide support, and promote effective adoption and use of technical tools.  

• Write documentation, including user guides, technical operating procedures, functional requirements, and scope of work. 

This is a hands-on technical role requiring a candidate with strong data analysis and troubleshooting skills, who will take full ownership of projects and work independently to develop solutions and resolve complex technical issues. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following key qualifications: 

• Thorough knowledge of databases (SQL and/or Oracle) and ability to develop complex SQL queries, views, and scripts. 

• Proficiency with analytics and reporting tools, including Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and SAP Crystal Reports. 

• Experience programmatically integrating data from various systems and formats, including APIs, relational databases, and file-based formats (Excel, CSV, etc.). 

• Knowledge of scripting languages for data analytics and process automation, such as SQL, Python, or JavaScript.  

• Experience administering, supporting, and troubleshooting enterprise applications, including applications hosted on-premises and cloud-hosted/SaaS applications. 

• Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including proven experience interfacing with end users and writing technical and project documentation.

Position Duties

The City of San José, Public Works Department is seeking to fill five (5) full-time Electrician vacancies. The department’s tight-knit team of Electricians work collaboratively and intra-departmentally to ensure electrical components and systems are installed and maintained throughout city facilities such as community centers, libraries and public parks. 

Electrician I is the entry-level class in the Electrician series. Incumbents are provided with training and experience to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the full range of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.  

Electrician II is the journey level class in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, working independently under general supervision. 

Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating high and low voltage/amperage electrical components, systems and equipment including locating problems; determining appropriate courses of action; and coordinating repairs with affected parties. They design, fabricate, and install electrical systems and components and install wiring and electrical equipment, ensuring code compliance. Electricians review work orders, maintain activity logs, prepare requisitions and obtain approval for various projects. Duties may also include purchasing electrical supplies, including filling out paperwork; coordinating purchases; and, choosing vendors. They are responsible for responding to occasional emergencies, evaluating and taking required actions and determining if support is needed. Public Works electrician duties also include:  

• New construction, remodels, small tenant improvement projects; 

• Lighting retrofit projects; 

• Maintenance of pump stations (includes motor controls and PLC's and computerized alarm and monitoring of pumps, etc.); 

• Maintenance of Emergency generators, fire alarm systems, vehicle gate operators, badge access controls, lighting control systems;

The City of Thousand Oaks Public Works Department is seeking a responsible and ambitious Emergency Management Intern to join our team for a 6-month internship (with the possibility of extension)! This is a great opportunity for someone interested in breaking into the public sector and eager to gain hands-on experience in emergency management services.  

Maintaining public safety during emergency incidents is a core function and responsibility of the City. The intern position will include educating residents about emergency preparedness and administering a variety of City and County emergency management programs (e.g., Community Emergency Response Team). The internship will require a commitment of approximately 15-20 hours per week and offers flexible scheduling options to accommodate other commitments, such as school. 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Promote, receive, and organize CERT program applications and follow up with applicants

This position in the General Services Department is responsible for organizing and supervising maintenance, custodial, repair, and construction operations in the County. The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor receives general supervision from higher level supervisory and management staff. They will exercise direct supervision over assigned custodian and maintenance staff. This position is full-time and is scheduled for forty (40) hours a week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major courses in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of experience with management and supervisory responsibility for revenue collection functions or business facility management and development.
