The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health and the environment. The District accomplishes this goal through regulation of industrial facilities and various outreach and incentive programs designed to encourage clean air choices.

The District's jurisdiction encompasses all of seven counties - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Napa, and portions of two others - southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma.

The District is conducting an open recruitment for the position of Accounting Assistant I/II.  There is one (1) vacancy.  This is a full-time, represented position in the Finance Office.  

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provides a variety of routine to difficult financial, billing, statistical and accounting office support; may perform general office support duties, including typing, word processing and filing; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Accounting Assistant I is the entry level class of this accounting support series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn financial office and District procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is alternately staffed with Accounting Assistant II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher level class.

Accounting Assistant II is the journey level class of this series, fully competent to perform a variety of responsible accounting and financial record-keeping support duties. All positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non-routine circumstances. This class is distinguished from Senior Accounting Assistant in that the latter assigns, directs and reviews the work of a small accounting support staff.

POSITION INFORMATION

The Finance and Administrative Services Department is responsible for supporting the City’s operations through accounting, budget management, information & technology services, revenue services, payroll, purchasing and utility billing. This position, in coordination with the Administration and Budget team, will support the entire Department with a special emphasis on Citywide budget development and financial analysis.

DEFINITION

Under general direction of the Department Head, performs a wide range of responsible, professional, administrative, staff assignments which include oversight of interdepartmental and City-wide projects and programs; and performs related work as required. As this is a management development position, the incumbent may be assigned temporarily to other departments to gain broad experience in various municipal functions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assist in program, policy and budget development, implementation, coordination, revision, review, evaluation and monitoring; participate in interdepartmental task forces and committees; research, compile and analyze financial and other data; prepare recommendations for budget requests, grants, new programs, modification of services and equipment; plan, organize and coordinate assigned City-wide projects and monitor departmental projects; analyze, interpret and explain City policies and procedures.

Ability to: Write and present reports and recommendations; speak before groups; properly interpret, explain and act in accordance with laws, regulations and policies; demonstrate competency in research and analysis, decision making, and management skills; and tactfully relate to the public, departmental managers, employees, other organizations and outside agencies. Work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education: Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university, with major course work in Public or Business Administration or related field.

THE POSITION

The City of Daly City is seeking a highly skilled, business-oriented Senior Management Analyst with strong accounting, budgeting and financial management background to assist in budget development, projection and implementation of Citywide budgets.  This position reports to the Assistant Director of Finance and plays a critical role on the City’s budget, working in partnership with other departments.

Under the direction of the Controller, provides accounting and fiscal support, including budget tracking, income and expenditure reports, revenue billing and collection, payroll, reviews and reconciles a variety of complex financial transactions for the Peninsula Library System and its multiple contracted agencies.

Distinguished from the Accounting Assistant I by the amount of accounting experience required. The County of San Mateo Parks Department is seeking an experienced Park Ranger II to provide a variety of public services to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural, historical, recreational and educational resources of the County. Under supervision, Park Ranger II are responsible for maintaining trails and picnic areas, camping and boating facilities; performing facility maintenance; assisting the public in taking full advantage of the facilities and grounds; and assisting with interpretive and recreational programs. Incumbents also supervise temporary employees and provide guidance and training to staff.

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least two years of experience in park management, forestry, natural resource conservation, law enforcement, construction, emergency response or a closely related field.
• Practical experience in trail building and maintenance; facility cleaning and maintenance; customer service; working with volunteers; handling complaints; performing First Aid, CPR, and other safety procedures; interpreting and enforcing laws, rules and regulations; and performing basic construction and carpentry work.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; supervises and coordinates Sheriff’s Work Program personnel; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment.

Selection Process

The City of Menlo Park is recruiting for an Assistant/Associate/Senior transportation planner (2 positions) to help our organization better serve the community and improve the City’s infrastructure. As part of a small city, staff have the opportunity to work closely with the transportation team and community on a variety projects and subject areas.

The transportation division leads multi-modal and safety-focused infrastructure projects; engages with regional transportation partners including Caltrain, Samtrans, Caltrans, and other transit providers; maintains the City’s traffic signals, street lights, traffic signs and street markings; and administers local-serving shuttle and safe routes to school programs. Assistant Transportation Planner

This is the entry-level classification in the professional transportation planning series. Initially, incumbents learn and perform a variety of techniques related to the development of short and long range transportation plans and conduct oversight of transportation demand management (both internal and external stakeholders), citywide shuttle, and safe routes to school programs. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Associate level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

Associate Transportation Planner

This is the journey-level classification of the transportation planning series, able to perform the full scope of professional transportation planning duties. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Assistant Transportation Planner level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment, initiative, and problem solving. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Transportation Planner in that the latter is the advanced journey-level class in the series and is responsible for performing more complex planning and project management activities.

Senior Transportation Planner

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Transportation Planner series responsible for complex transportation planning and project management duties. Incumbents work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgement. Positions at this level conduct the full range of duties as assigned, work independently, and exercise judgment, initiative, and problem solving. The work involves problem solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent or simple solutions. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. This class is distinguished from the Associate Transportation Planner in that the latter is the journey-level class in the series, performing less complex tasks and project management activities.
