The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails performing participant or event rental check-in and reception duties, opening and closing facilities, general janitorial services including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, bathrooms, room set-up and break-down, field preparation by dragging, chalking, placing bases, hole filling, safety checks, restroom opening/closing as well as restocking and general cleaning, working in concessions, stocking, preparing, and selling food during tournaments and league play. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

What You'll Do

The Public Works Supervisor will organize and supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic markings, signs, signals, street lights, drains, storm pump, stormwater conveyance systems and sanitary pumps, lagoons, dams, creeks and ditches; to provide technical staff assistance, including safety compliance and implementation.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; standard operating procedures; establish schedules and methods for street, traffic and stormwater conveyance systems maintenance and repair; safety compliance and implementation; implement policies and procedures.
• Organize and supervise crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the repair and maintenance of streets and stormwater conveyance systems, including street resurfacing, streetlights, traffic signals and street markings and signs, repairing and patching; street cleaning; sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement; sewer cleaning and repair; weed control and storm drain cleaning maintenance.
• Maintain and interpret time, material and equipment use records; determine and implement adjustments to optimize the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Participate in selecting, training, motivating, counseling and evaluating staff; participate in monitoring employee performance objectives; prepare employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Coordinate safety training and support Department safety programs including preparation and updating of City safety practices, standard operating procedures and training materials. May be asked to conduct specific safety trainings depending on training and experience. These activities may be required in both the Engineering & General Services and Environmental Services Divisions as requested by the Director.
• Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors and lead workers.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance and repair activities; make plans and sketches for minor street maintenance and repair projects.
• Assist in coordinating street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for needed equipment and materials; monitor and control expenditures.
• Monitor streets, traffic signs and signals, street lights, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage facilities for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Issue purchase orders to contractors and vendors; requisition materials and supplies

The Public Works Supervisor receives direction from the Public Works Field Maintenance Manager or other Public Works senior management personnel and exercises direct supervision over crew lead workers, crews, and other staff per program assignment.

This job entails assisting with planning and leading program activities, supervising youth in arts, crafts, games and sports, performing participant check-in, reception duties, and assisting with equipment set-up, take down and housekeeping, chaperoning participants on field trips, and opening and closing facilities. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

The City of Orinda is searching for a motivated individual to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City streets and drainage facilities, sign and striping repair and replacement, graffiti removal, and vegetation trimming and clearing. All full time maintenance personnel in the City are responsible for after-hours emergency call-outs, including weekends and holidays, on a rotational basis.  Special and holiday event (including 4th of July) coverage may also be required.    This position is the entry level in the Maintenance Worker series, reporting to the Public Works Supervisor.

Examples of essential duties:

• Maintains and/or repairs City streets and catch basins; grade, scrape, and level surfaces in preparation for road paving; performs repair of curbs and gutters and paving of streets and alleys using pneumatic tools, asphalt rakes, and other hand tools;
• Removes and replaces road surface material and debris; load, transport and unload stones, gravel, dirt, supplies, and equipment;
• Installs, repairs and cleans storm drains, pipelines, catch basins, and storm drain grates; cleans and maintains catch basins and right of ways;
• Trims and removes trees; performs stump grinding and root cutting;
• Fills, patches, and resurfaces holes, cracks, ditches, and service laterals; installs and replaces street and traffic signs;
• Performs skilled operation of the bobcat, street sweeper, dump truck, equipment trailer, and other heavy and light equipment;
• Removes and inspects manhole covers and manholes; mixes, pours, and finishes concrete to raise manholes to street surfaces; replaces manhole covers as needed;
• Places traffic control and warning signs; serves as a flagman; sets up lanterns and barricades;
• Operates a chemical sprayer in assigned areas to abate weeds;
• Performs graffiti removal; and
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma; and

Experience: One year of experience performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction and equipment operation work; and

License and Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.  Ability to obtain Confined Space, Traffic Control Flagger, Trench Shoring, and Fork Lift Certificates.

Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb and lift 100 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work spaces, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in city, urban or environmental planning, architecture urban planning or a related field.

Experience:

• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in housing development and rehabilitation, planning, or related field including two (2) years of administrative, lead, or supervisory responsibilities related to planning, organizing, and coordinating housing programs.

License:

• Possession of a California driver license and a satisfactory driving record.
