The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Field Representative! When assigned to the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works department, you will perform AR collections with delinquent accounts, monitor receivables, maintain records of contacts, resolve customer issues and complaints concerning billing, submit regular reports on the status of unpaid accounts and any repayment progress for Recycling and Solid Waste Services for Residential, Commercial, and Transfer Station customers in the City of Berkeley and provide guidance to our customers to be sure they have the payment plan and appropriate level of services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of credit and collection, business account, investigative, direct customer service, product marketing, telemarketing, or related experience.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Candidates must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions.

The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Associate Architect /Landscape Architect ( Designer ) position within the City Facilities Architectural Services (CFAS) Division . The CFAS Division manages the delivery of Capital Improvement Program ( CIP) projects relating to public infrastructure and facilities, including but not limited to parks, trails, community centers, libraries, fire stations, police facilities, emergency housing, and various other City-owned facilities for the residents of San José.

This is a temporary (Overstrength) position that is anticipated to be funded through June 30, 2025, subject to further extension as appropriate . If this position is not extended through the budget process, the city may seek to place you in other internal job opportunities base d on your previous work experience.

This position is primarily responsible for the delivery of capital improvement projects, including review of complex professional plans and specifications to ensure compliance with uniform codes, maintenance practices, and other ordinances and regulations as they relate to the City of San Jos é . For this position, a background in Architecture is required .?Professional licensing ( i.e. Licensed Architect ) is highly desirable but not required (premium pay of 1.5% is available for licensed employees). Under the supervision of a Se nior Architect , the Associate Architect /Landscape Architect ( Designer ) manages project s and is responsible and accountable for the effective and efficient project management of CIP Projects through all phases of the project. This position will act as the single point of contact for project coordination including design, scope of work, cost estimating, contract administration, construction administration, budgets, and schedules. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills and a strong work ethic. Th is position requires excellent judgment, initiative, perseverance, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility, and written and verbal communication skills. Key Responsibilities:

The Associate Architect /Landscape Architect ( Designer ) project management duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Interact with various City departments on the development of the capital improvement project, including scope of work, schedule, and budget, as well as effectively communicat e project status with stakeholders.

• Conduct meetings and presentations to committees, approval agencies, clients and the general public .

• Provide technical advice and assistance to other City departments, engineers, architects, and contractors for conformance with City policies and guidelines.

• Prepare technical reports and other documentation, designs, drawings, specifications.

• Analyze/solve complex architectural problems/issues to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards and specifications; ensuring quality assurance, risk management, regulatory compliance and permitting is properly executed.

• Prepare and write memos and reports on public works projects for City management and the public.

• Utilize project controls, tracking, and reporting using Capital Project Management System (CPMS) or other project management software.

• Prepare and monitor project costs , ensuring projects meet budget constraints and stays withi n the allocated budget .

• Develop and monitor project schedules ; updat ing to ensur e the project stays on schedule.

• Review consultant and in- house work for aesthetics including layout, massing, hierarchy, vocabulary, rhythm, placement, color, and choice of materials.

• Prepare and write consultant agreements ; negotiate consultant design fees and verif y that the fees are appropriate with the scoped services.

• Review plans and specifications prepared by consultants to ensure conformity to project program requirements, building codes and ordinances.

• Manage the bid and award of capital improvement projects .

• Manage construction contracts, conduct pre-bid meetings, evaluate bidders, and conduct pre-construction meetings.

• Manage the work of consultants and contractors through the development of project requirements including; project strategies, budget, schedule, and compliance with City policies, procedures, design and construction standards, regulations and codes.

• Negotiate/ modif y contracts, resolve claims and disputes.

THE COMMUNITY

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Pacifica is a General Law City incorporated in 1957 and operates under the Council/Manager form of government. THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department provides timely, public-facing, and internal services related to the review of applications for development and building permits, as well as code enforcement of the City’s development regulations. The Department has primary responsibility for the maintenance and implementation of the City’s General Plan, Local Coastal Program, Zoning Regulations, and Building Code, as well as environmental review of City and private development projects in accordance with CEQA regulations. The Department provides staff support to the City’s Planning Commission, Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee, and Climate Action Adaptation Task Force.

The Community Development Department is staffed by 14 full-time staff along with the use of outside consulting agencies support as required. The Department is organized into three (3) divisions: Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement, and prides itself on providing a high level of services with a lean but talented team.

Seeking  an enthusiastic , motivated individuals who enjoy working with preschool- age children. The preschool instructor will plan and implement a comprehensive recreational and educational program to include arts and crafts, creative play, circle time activities and music and movement for children 2-3 years old. The instructor will work with parents and students during class. 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Education: 

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• 12 units of ECE (Early Childhood Education) classes and/or coursework toward a related degree is highly desired.

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and provides oversight of rental groups, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

• Assist patrons and prospective participants on the phone and in-person
• Assist permit groups with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment
• Promptly open and unlock facilities or close and secure facilities as scheduled
• Complete facility condition forms following permit group use and incident reports as needed
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions
• Turn athletic field lights off and on for sports groups
• Sell and scan admission tickets special events and/or theater performances

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sweep floors, vacuum carpets, and dust or polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Wash windows, clean restrooms, replenish supplies, and sanitize high touch areas often
• Empty waste receptacles and remove any trash or debris found throughout facility

Parks Maintenance Supervisor

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Supervisor.   This position will supervise and perform work in park maintenance, such as mowing, irrigation, pruning, planting, cleaning, improvement and repair of City parks, recreational areas, park buildings, street islands, swimming pools and related facilities.  Work includes setting priorities, assigning and reviewing the work of crew members.   

UPCOMING PROJECTS:

• Construction begins this fall on a new synthetic turf field at Al Boro Community Center.  The Parks Department will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the field after installation.  This is the only synthetic turf field in our park system.  Developing a proper maintenance schedule will be crucial to ensure the longevity of the highly used field.
• The Parks Department is working on a better maintenance solution to the tree wells and tree grates along the downtown corridor.  Many of the trees are outgrowing the tree grates, causing damage to the trees and potential trip hazards for the pedestrians.  The Park Department is exploring options, including installation of porous rubber pavement surfaces. 
• Asset Management software is coming to the maintenance divisions in Public Works to help better manage the maintenance schedules of all of the city-owned assets.  Assisting with the software into the daily routines will be an expectation of Supervisor. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• Is familiar with San Rafael and the different areas it encompasses.
• Has knowledge and experience in all aspects of park and street maintenance.
• Has knowledge and/or experience in assessing tree issues.  ISA certification is a plus.
• Has knowledge and/or experience in California Department of Pesticide Regulations.  QAL or PCA certification is a plus.
• Knowledge and experience with suite of Microsoft Office products.
• Good customer service with the ability to work with the public in difficult situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Identifies and records major project work needed and discuss needs and priorities with supervisor so annual project and program schedules can be developed.
• Plans, lays out, estimates and arranges materials, crew, and equipment required for jobs.
• Establishes short-term work schedules and assigns work to lead workers and grounds workers. 
• Performs the full scope of groundskeeping duties.
• Inspects assigned areas of completed work to assess need for follow up, identify horticultural problems, and determine proper courses of action.
• Maintains records of work performed, hours and materials used, horticultural care of particular areas, pesticide use, and project tracking.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

• High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by education or training in landscape maintenance, horticulture, and use of fertilizers and pesticides.
• Five (5) years of responsible experience in landscape maintenance, including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

The Department

The Housing Department supports two of four City Council Focus Areas:

The City Government

While the Deputy Director provides leadership across the Housing Department, the position plays the integral role leading and sustaining an accomplished team in supporting the Reducing Unsheltered Homelessness City Council Focus Area. The Deputy Director reports to the Director and works collaboratively with Housing Department Leadership and City Management.

The Ideal Candidate

The Deputy Director will be an energetic, self-directed, forward-thinking leader who has a keen eye for details, is very organized, is an excellent writer, and understands or is curious about financing regulations. The Deputy Director will have a high legal, ethical, and moral compass and is one who thrives in a fast-paced, often-changing, and very busy environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable talking in public to various audiences and conducting community engagement. Master's degree in business administration or closely related field is desirable.

Experience : Six (6) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience in senior level administrative and/or analytic work in a public or private agency.
 

• Ten (10) or more years of commercial lending, banking, or financing experience is strongly preferred.
• Ten (10) or more years' experience with rent subsidized multifamily or senior real estate development or redevelopment projects that achieved financial closing is strongly preferred.
• Experience managing a business unit equivalent to a major division within a public or private agency is strongly preferred.
