THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent or designee, the Maintenance Worker II performs journey level skilled and semi-skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities in the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and street maintenance. The Maintenance Worker II may exercise functional supervision over other Maintenance Workers.

TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Perform manual unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in street, park, tree, water and storm drain maintenance, construction and repair.
• Perform such grounds maintenance as mowing lawns, raking leaves, and planting flowers, shrubs and trees.
• Clean ditches, alleys, streets, culverts and storm drains.
• Repaint pavement markings; perform basic pothole and street repair; install and repair street sign and markers; mix and apply all classes of pesticide materials.
• Perform installation, maintenance and minor repair work on irrigation systems and time clocks.
• Assist in the care, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, tools and equipment.
• Operate mowers and other equipment and tools for purposes of cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and planting and transplanting flowers, bulbs, shrubs and trees.
• Operate such medium and heavy equipment as saws, sprayers, jackhammer, chipper, rollers, loader, tractor, trucks and various hand and power tools.
• Supervise the work of temporary and seasonal employees as assigned; act as lead worker over other Maintenance Workers as required.
• Contact residents concerning maintenance and service problems; refer complaints and requests to proper supervisory personnel.
• Assist supervisory personnel in preparing and maintaining proper records and logs.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Construction methods, materials and terminology.
• Standard hand tools, light equipment and light vehicles. 
• Safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools, light equipment and vehicles.
• Methods and practices involved in the care of shrubs, trees and flowers.
• Methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in irrigation systems, streets, and grounds maintenance.

Ability to:

• Apply technically complex construction and maintenance procedures in irrigation systems, streets, and grounds maintenance.
• Use hand and power tools. 
• Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time and under inclement weather conditions.
• Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Operate a variety of medium and heavy equipment and power tools.
• Oversee the work of others as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of or ability to obtain pesticide license and valid California driver's license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving history.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: Two years’ experience performing duties comparable to those of a Maintenance Worker I with the City of Pleasant Hill. Or, two years of experience performing unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and/or street maintenance.
• Training: Completion of high school or its equivalent, or completion of a trade or vocation school.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Monthly Salary: $5,433 -$7,039 per month. Placement within the range will be based upon the selected candidate’s experience and salary history. Eff. 9/1/2024: 3.25% COLA and Step G added to pay schedule ($5,620 - $7,450/month). Eff. 9/1/2025: 3.5% COLA ($5,816 - $7,710/month)
• Health/Medical Benefit: Health/Medical Benefit: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. In lieu of medical coverage, the City will contribute $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) in cash or a pre-tax contribution into a MissionSquare Retirement 457 deferred compensation plan.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of term-limited, full-time Sustainability Librarian in Adult Services with energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment and a strong interest in sustainability. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, using state-of the-art technology to develop library content, and selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection. The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the flexibly staffed position of Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Department within the Community Development and Services Agency. Depending on experience and the needs of the department, the position may be filled directly at the Public Works Maintenance Worker II level. The primary responsibilities under this position are to learn and perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, rights of way, parks and related County infrastructure in a centralized or rural location; operate and perform basic maintenance and adjustment to light and heavy equipment in the performance of the work; install street and traffic signs for County roadways and perform related work as assigned.

About the Public Works Department:

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining, repairing, designing, and constructing County roads, bridges, parks, and storm water drainage systems in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/standards, and in a manner that maximizes public safety. Due to the mountainous terrain in the eastern half of the County, road maintenance often includes snow plowing. The Yuba County Maintained Mileage for roads consists of 653 miles, 76 bridges (greater than 20’ in length), and numerous culverts/drainage structures. The department also reviews and approves land development projects as they relate to the County road, drainage, and park systems. Public Works performs administration and maintenance of the County parks and County Services Areas.

THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking for one individual to serve as a Facilities Maintenance Worker for the Facilities Department. The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for independently performing routine and semiskilled maintenance and repair work. This position will report to the Facilities & Safety Manager.

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Performs preventative maintenance and repair of Authority and leased properties; responds to work order requests and keeps reports and records of completed job; conducts daily mail runs for Authority staff.

This position will function across the department to support early education, adult literacy, ESL, Citizenship, and other library services for families in the Seven Trees/Santee neighborhood. The CPA will analyze available data and work with City departments to identify service priorities, partnerships, and opportunities related to support for educational and employment attainment of community members in the Santee neighborhood.

This position will:

• Develop strategies to monitor and evaluate programs and services in alignment with adopted quality standards and ensure that all programs at Seven Trees are executed against those standards.
• Identify gaps in service and programs and develop a strategic plan to address issues.

• Have current knowledge of the CYSMP, collaboration models, data collection, and analysis methodology as well as the ability to lead development of enhanced service models.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, sewers, storm drains, and pump stations.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill multiple vacancies in the Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid licenses/certificates. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill multiple Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Public Works Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division.  The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone who has a good understanding of all aspects of underground sewer/storm drain maintenance and repairs, and is familiar with the operation of light and heavy equipment.  This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.  Candidate must be able to follow direction and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor.  Current and valid distribution certifications and Class A/B commercial driver’s license are highly desirable.

Utilities Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker I may often perform many of the duties required of Utilities Maintenance Workers II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Utilities Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Utilities Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II:

This is the Journey level in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Utilities Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, steel rollers, High Velocity Vacuum Cleaner, mole trencher, and rubber-tired tractor with all attachments in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Operate fork lift as assigned and trained.  Perform general maintenance and repair on water distribution and/or storm and wastewater collection facilities including installation, testing, and backfill of service laterals.  Within the sewer and stormwater collections division, employees will be expected to use the Closed-Circuit Television Truck, sewer cable machine, flush sewer laterals and mains, assist in sewer tap installations, clean storm drain lines and catch basins. Within the water distribution division, employees will be expected to assist in water tap installations, install, remove, and repair water meters, hydrants, service valves, and mainline valves; take water meter and gauge readings; accurately maintain records and reports.  All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II will operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates, utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work and comply with the policies and procedures in the department Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting the public’s health and safety.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Respond to inquiries from the general public. Prepare as built sketches, when required to convey information to engineering for graphic documentation. Check water meters for proper operation; troubleshoot registers and repair. Initiate and discontinue water service to customer accounts as directed. Operate telemetering and flow monitoring equipment. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned. Both Assignments will require employees to be “On Call” as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilities Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience in construction or related field.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade I Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association prior to permanent appointment. 

A Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program certificate issued by the National Association of Sewer System Companies (NASSCO) is desirable.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in or graduation from the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Utilities Maintenance Worker I.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade II Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association upon hire.

Requires all of the certifications necessary for a Utilities Maintenance Worker I and possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License with Tank and Air Brake Endorsement upon hire.

Future Salary COLAs:       
1% increase (eff January 2025), 4% increase (eff July 2025) and 1% increase (eff January 2026)

CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members).  The City does not participate in social security

Deferred Compensation:                    
Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth) with 1% City-match effective July 2024.  After successful completion of probation, new hires are also eligible for a 2% City contribution.
