The Maintenance Worker II is the journey-level classification in the Maintenance Worker I-II series. The position performs a variety of work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including buildings, parks, streets, stormwater, and/or drainage systems and facilities. The selected candidate will use and operate a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment and perform related work, as assigned.

What You'll Do

The Public Works Supervisor will organize and supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic markings, signs, signals, street lights, drains, storm pump, stormwater conveyance systems and sanitary pumps, lagoons, dams, creeks and ditches; to provide technical staff assistance, including safety compliance and implementation.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; standard operating procedures; establish schedules and methods for street, traffic and stormwater conveyance systems maintenance and repair; safety compliance and implementation; implement policies and procedures.
• Organize and supervise crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the repair and maintenance of streets and stormwater conveyance systems, including street resurfacing, streetlights, traffic signals and street markings and signs, repairing and patching; street cleaning; sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement; sewer cleaning and repair; weed control and storm drain cleaning maintenance.
• Maintain and interpret time, material and equipment use records; determine and implement adjustments to optimize the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Participate in selecting, training, motivating, counseling and evaluating staff; participate in monitoring employee performance objectives; prepare employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Coordinate safety training and support Department safety programs including preparation and updating of City safety practices, standard operating procedures and training materials. May be asked to conduct specific safety trainings depending on training and experience. These activities may be required in both the Engineering & General Services and Environmental Services Divisions as requested by the Director.
• Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors and lead workers.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance and repair activities; make plans and sketches for minor street maintenance and repair projects.
• Assist in coordinating street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for needed equipment and materials; monitor and control expenditures.
• Monitor streets, traffic signs and signals, street lights, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage facilities for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Issue purchase orders to contractors and vendors; requisition materials and supplies

The Public Works Supervisor receives direction from the Public Works Field Maintenance Manager or other Public Works senior management personnel and exercises direct supervision over crew lead workers, crews, and other staff per program assignment.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

This is an entry level position under general supervision to perform semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of the sewage collection system, flow equalization facility, lift stations, buildings and grounds maintenance and to perform related work as required.

The City of Orinda is searching for a motivated individual to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City streets and drainage facilities, sign and striping repair and replacement, graffiti removal, and vegetation trimming and clearing. All full time maintenance personnel in the City are responsible for after-hours emergency call-outs, including weekends and holidays, on a rotational basis.  Special and holiday event (including 4th of July) coverage may also be required.    This position is the entry level in the Maintenance Worker series, reporting to the Public Works Supervisor.

Examples of essential duties:

• Maintains and/or repairs City streets and catch basins; grade, scrape, and level surfaces in preparation for road paving; performs repair of curbs and gutters and paving of streets and alleys using pneumatic tools, asphalt rakes, and other hand tools;
• Removes and replaces road surface material and debris; load, transport and unload stones, gravel, dirt, supplies, and equipment;
• Installs, repairs and cleans storm drains, pipelines, catch basins, and storm drain grates; cleans and maintains catch basins and right of ways;
• Trims and removes trees; performs stump grinding and root cutting;
• Fills, patches, and resurfaces holes, cracks, ditches, and service laterals; installs and replaces street and traffic signs;
• Performs skilled operation of the bobcat, street sweeper, dump truck, equipment trailer, and other heavy and light equipment;
• Removes and inspects manhole covers and manholes; mixes, pours, and finishes concrete to raise manholes to street surfaces; replaces manhole covers as needed;
• Places traffic control and warning signs; serves as a flagman; sets up lanterns and barricades;
• Operates a chemical sprayer in assigned areas to abate weeds;
• Performs graffiti removal; and
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma; and

Experience: One year of experience performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction and equipment operation work; and

License and Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.  Ability to obtain Confined Space, Traffic Control Flagger, Trench Shoring, and Fork Lift Certificates.

Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb and lift 100 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work spaces, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call.

FACILITY MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST
Part-Time Position (20 Hours per Week)

Definition
Under the general direction of the District Manager, performs facility maintenance and safety evaluations on the District’s buildings and surrounding grounds and performs related work and supportive services as required. This position serves as the facility manager for District buildings, coordinating professional repair, maintenance, and housekeeping services, managing security access systems, and ensuring facilities comply with regulatory standards and codes.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Communications Supervisor in the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to oversee, plan, organize and direct the work of Communications Technicians and others performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications and telephone systems. This is the working supervisory level in electronic communications installation and maintenance work. Incumbents supervise, plan, organize, schedule, assign and direct the work of staff and provide technical assistance as necessary. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electronic communications systems equivalent to a City of Berkeley Communications Technician. Experience in the repair and maintenance of GE or Motorola mobile and portable two-way radio systems and data communications hardware is desirable.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be willing to work off-hours, standby, and overtime in emergency situations. Must possess good color vision.

Candidates must possess a valid FCC General Radio-Telephone Operators license at time of appointment.

About the Engineering Group Manager - Facility
 
The Engineering Group Manager – Facility position reports to the Deputy Director for Transit and Facility Engineering, and manages a diverse, talented team of seasoned staff. This team is well-versed in the delivery of capital projects in the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority operation and maintenance responsibility. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on master planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), and coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and the community.

The Department: 

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

The Position: 

This is a paraprofessional supervisory position in the classified service. The Library Circulation Supervisor is the highest level in the paraprofessional class in the Library Department, providing supervision and management for the largest number of work unit staff in the department, as well as day to day library operation. The Circulation Unit is the first line of staff that meets the public, and customer service and satisfaction are essential. The Circulation Unit is responsible for customer accounts, cash handling, effective material circulation, distribution and shelving, resource sharing, and daily delivery to all library and city locations as needed. The incumbent manages the schedule of the team, maintains standards of strong customer service for the library system through well-developed circulation processes and procedures that emphasize access and equity, and is responsible for the overall supervision of the Circulation Unit, as well as the safe operation and maintenance of circulation technology, including automated materials handling sorters and self-check machines. This position involves coordinating staffing and service procedures with the branch libraries, library bookmobile, as well as working closely with Technology for equipment support as well as with multiple vendors. The Circulation Supervisor is a member of the Library Management Team, and often acts as supervisor-in-charge. Strong communication, management and leadership experience and executive practice in fostering positive working environment, ability to work independently and within a team, supportive personnel practices, troubleshooting, patience, and flexibility will be key characteristics of this individual.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

• Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic level coursework at an accredited college or university

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

• Three (3) years of recent full-time paraprofessional library experience, two (2) years of which have been at the level of Senior Library Assistant for the Santa Clara City Library or equivalent; or
• Three (3) years of recent full-time paraprofessional library experience involving public contact and computerized circulation systems, including two (2) years of recent supervisory experience

Acceptable Substitution: 

• Completion of a two year Library Technology Associate of Arts degree may be substituted for one year of paraprofessional library experience.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of an appropriate, valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Other Requirements:  

• Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment
• May be required to work evenings and weekends
