Senior Programs:
The City of San Bruno Community Services Department is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to coordinate the planning, organizing, coordination, and administration of community recreation programs for age 50-plus adults under the supervision of a Recreation Services Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of programs at the San Bruno Senior Center. We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in recreation programs related to the aging community.
General Programming:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the forthcoming state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation facility set to open in Summer 2024. The brand-new 49,360 sq ft facility will feature indoor and outdoor lap pools, a zero-entry wading pool, fitness amenities, a gymnasium, a walking track, and ample space for programming and rentals.
The successful candidate will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of recreational programs at the facility. Candidates with experience in fitness, aquatics, and general recreation programs are desired.
Responsibilities of the Recreation Services Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
- Managing and supervising assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers; reviews progress and directs and implements changes as needed.
- Assuring that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performing cost control activities; monitoring revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; preparing annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
- Issuing written and oral instructions; assigning duties and examining work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Responding to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.
- Preparing for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.
- Develop and implement a variety of programs for the aging adult community.
- Provide strong leadership and direction to staff and volunteers.
- Develop a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for program participants.
Requirements
In addition to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, social work, gerontology, public administration or another closely related field of study – the candidate will also have two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the development and coordination of programs, services, activities and events are required. Experience in recreation programs with the public is highly desirable.
