POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Police Officer performs a variety of law enforcement, crime prevention, and public service duties; controls traffic flow, enforces State and local traffic regulations; and performs additional related tasks as assigned. This position will serve the public in traffic enforcement, patrol operations, and community-oriented policing assignments. Specialty assignments include Investigative Services, Auto Theft, School Resource Officer, Motorcycle Officer, SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, Tactical Response, and K-9 Officer positions. 

The Police Officer position may be filled by an entry-level applicant. Entry Level applicants will be sent to a POST-approved academy upon appointment and enter into the field training program immediately upon graduation from a POST-approved academy.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Utilities Engineer with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. The Senior Utilities Engineer is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs engineering activities including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding, services during construction and construction management for a variety of projects in wastewater treatment, water storage and distribution, sewer collection, and storm water management. DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Senior Electrical Engineer

Position Summary

 

Under direction, perform varied professional and electrical engineering work at an advanced level of difficulty in the field and office. Perform assessments of and prepare written reports documenting the existing electrical systems and loads at existing facilities. Work with other engineers and technicians on design of new facilities and rehabilitation/retrofit of existing facilities. May supervise subordinate engineering personnel engaged in design and construction work. May act as resident engineer on major capital improvement projects and as oversight engineer on in-house maintenance and repair projects. Interpret, explain and carry out electrical engineering design, inspection and construction methods and procedures. Responsibilities include regular contact with other professional engineering personnel, as well as contractors and their representatives, and the general public, obtaining and providing technical electrical engineering data and information, preparing, checking and reviewing detailed and complex electrical engineering plans, specifications and related reports. Perform related duties as required.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Performs assessments of electrical systems and prepare written reports documenting the capacity and limitations of the systems

The City of San Jose's Planning, Building and Code Enforcement (PBCE) Department is recruiting to fill a Senior Engineer position in its Building Division. The Building Division is a part of the Development Services team and consists of four Core Groups. These four Groups are: Permit Center, Plan Review, Expedited Review, and Inspection Groups. 

The Senior Engineer in PBCE’s Building Division performs a variety of professional and supervisory assignments including, coordinating and directing the activities of a group of engineers and inspectors in reviewing complex professional plans and calculations to ensure compliance with uniform codes, engineering principles, Federal, State and local ordinances and regulations.

The Community Energy Department is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to support an emerging program which is intended to increase the City’s overall energy resiliency.  This newly formed Associate Electrical Engineer position will collaborate with staff from other departments, consultants, vendors, private developers, and other partners to identify, assess, develop and deliver innovative energy resiliency projects, including participating in the potential development of a City utility to provide electric distribution service to a large development project.

The Associate Electrical Engineer will perform a diverse set of professional electrical engineering-related assignments which are primarily focused on the engineering, design, and implementation of electric distribution microgrids, distributed energy resources, and other electrical projects within new residential, commercial and other land-use developments, as well as City-owned facilities.  The person selected will have knowledge and experience related to the design, construction and operation of high voltage electric transmission and distribution systems, building and other facility electrical systems, and renewable energy generation and storage solutions.  Knowledge and experience related to the design and operation of component-level or integrated electronic circuitry is not applicable to this position.

Knowledge and experience in the following specific areas is directly relevant to this Associate Electrical Engineer position: Experience in electrical power system and microgrid design, including transmission, distribution, generation and storage. The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  IN GENERAL, THESE ASSIGNMENTS ARE A SPLIT SHIFT WITH APPROXIMATELY 10 HOURS PER WEEK.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.

*Effective the first full pay periods following 1/1/2024, a 3% Cost of Living increase and up to 4% equity adjustment will be applied to the hourly wage for the Police Officer Trainee position (totaling 14% in two years).

THE POSITION:

Under direct supervision, the Police Officer Trainee attends a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) approved Police Basic Recruit Academy and successfully completes the academic and physical training required for appointment to the classification of Police Officer Recruit II. Police Officer Trainees are considered at-will employees. Police officer probationary status begins when the trainee is sworn in as a Police Officer Recruit II after completion of the police academy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Participate in a P.O.S.T certified police academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system including knowledge of laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid and physical fitness.
• Receives training to develop an awareness of Police Department functions, as well as the responsibilities of Police Officers and how those responsibilities relate to field operations.
• Receives academy and field training to become a Police Officer.
• Learns proper handling and firing of firearms, report writing and emergency vehicle operation. 
• Develops an understanding and working knowledge of the California Penal, Vehicle, Health and Safety Codes. 
• Develops an understanding of proper evidence collection and preservation methods.

Effective 7/1/2020, the pay range for this classification is $96,470.50 to $122,137.60.

Under the general supervision of a Senior Engineer, the Associate Engineer position performs a variety of professional engineering, plan review, and inspection work.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:

- Examine plans, perform calculations and review specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with the California Building Code, California Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal regulations, and
applicable NFPA standards and local ordinances.

- Provide technical advice to consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, department officers and staff, and the Fire Marshal on the application or interpretation of fire safety codes/regulations, and on the resolution of fire safety issues found in the preliminary design of buildings.

- Analyze and evaluate proposals for alternate materials, methods of construction, and/or variances to fire safety codes and regulations.

- Conduct field inspections to ensure that the finished construction complies with approved plans.
