The County of San Mateo Registration and Elections Division of the Office of the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Chief Elections Officer is looking for qualified candidates for the position of Elections Specialist III.

This highly specialized position performs varied coordinative technical duties to ensure that County and local, city, and special district elections are conducted efficiently and in accordance with laws and regulations. Successful performance of the work requires the use of independent judgment and initiative along with the skill to follow through on multiple projects and details.

Additional skills include expertise working with the community and political groups, exceptional report writing skills, and strong project management skills. Prior experience with elections and basic knowledge of California election laws, regulations, and procedures is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will be able to "hit the ground running" due to previous or current employment in an Elections Office, providing technical support to the election process. Ideal candidates would also have a bachelor's degree or a higher degree in political science, business, public administration, policy, journalism, information technology, or another related field. At least one year of experience using GIS software is beneficial but not required. This position may provide indirect technical or functional supervision of employees in the Elections Specialist I/II classification.

About The SFO Airport/Community Roundtable

Since 1981, the SFO Airport Community Roundtable (Roundtable) has been an independent committee comprised primarily of elected local officials representing the residents of the City and County of San Francisco along with San Mateo County and its twenty incorporated cities. The Roundtable seeks to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on residents through collaboration among the stakeholders – the Roundtable, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), SFO Airport management, the airline industry, elected officials and the public.

The Roundtable Management Analyst will oversee a half-time Administrative Secretary and coordinate with the Roundtable Executive Board, Members of the Roundtable, the Roundtable Technical Consultant and other consultants, staff at other agencies including the SFO Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration, and various other agencies. The Management Analyst will also interact with the public.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This position has full supervisory responsibility for a specialized program activity and assists in recommending and developing goals, objectives, policies, and priorities related to a specialized program and is responsible for implementing these objectives. This position is distinguished from the Management Analyst in that this position typically supervises non-supervisory professional, technical or clerical employees and performs work in a defined or specialty area or has responsibility for managing outside contracts within a defined area and assists in developing and implementing specialized program activities.

The ideal candidate will have an equivalent to graduation from an accredited two year college or university with major coursework in transportation planning or services, program management, aviation, or a related field. At least one year experience of managing public meetings / committees /councils or other public entities (preferably a Brown Act entity), that includes preparing meeting agendas, managing public meetings, and managing public meeting records is strongly preferred. At least one year of aviation-related experience strongly preferred with knowledge of aircraft noise analysis or mitigation, airplane piloting, airspace design, air traffic control, airport management, aviation consulting or other aviation operations is preferred.

The Division is seeking applicants for the Division Manager classification within the Building Inspection section. What You’ll Do

The Assistant Planner/Associate Planner performs professional level work in the field of current planning and/or advance planning to promote the City’s Mission and Values. The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.

Assistant Planner - is the entry level class in the professional planning series and is distinguished from the Associate Planner by the performance of less complex tasks and duties in the fields of current or advance planning, which require the application of fundamental planning principles. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by higher level employees. However, as experience is acquired, the employee performs with increasing independence. Since this class is typically used as a continued training class, employees may have only limited work experience.

Associate Planner - is the journey level class in the professional planning series and employees within this class are distinguished from the Assistant Planner by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, which require the application of professional knowledge and skills to various municipal planning, zoning, and environmental problems and the preparation of specific reports and plans. The position provides opportunity for independent judgment in planning work details and making technical determinations. Work in this class is distinguished from that of Assistant Planner by the greater complexity of assignments including preparing zoning code and general plan amendment studies, and by the greater independence with which the incumbent is expected to operate. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for Public Safety Dispatchers (Lateral.)  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Essential Duties

• Receives and transmits emergency telephone and radio traffic. 
• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.
• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks: assisting in preparation of work schedules; training and evaluating performance of new employees; conducting training sessions; assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions.

• May act as Records/Dispatcher Supervisor in their absence.
• Maintains liaison with other Department Divisions, City Departments, and other law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
• Maintains various C.A.D and Record Management Files.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Direct and review the work of support staff on a project or day-to-day basis and train staff in work procedures.
• Effectively represent the department and the Town in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, and regulatory organizations, and in meetings with individuals.
• Work effectively with the Director and Assistant Community Development Director, City Manager, Planning Commission, City Council, and volunteer committees.
• Conduct zoning studies and interpret Town zoning laws, regulations, and codes.
• Use specialized computer software such as GIS, permit tracking systems, and AutoCAD.
• Read, understand, and explain site development and construction plans and conduct site inspections.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with officials, co-workers, subordinates, the public, representatives of organizations, and others to exchange or convey information and receive work direction.

Qualifications:

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in city, urban, or environmental planning, architecture, or a field related to the area of assignment, and seven years of planning-related experience, which must have included two years of project management or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. Master’s degree preferred.
• Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
• At the option of the appointing authority or the Town, persons hired into this class may be required either to possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits, designated licenses, professional registration, certification, or specialized education and training related to the area of assignment. Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within the Town and away from the Town and to inspect various work, building, or construction sites; strength to lift and carry materials and equipment up to twenty-five pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio.

Position & Duties - Police Communication Specialist
The Police Communication Specialist position is an entry level training position in the Communications Unit for the Police Department. Police Communication Specialists are required to handle the full range of telephone answering and dispatch functions. The key responsibilities for a Police Communication Specialist include:

-Receiving, answering, and processing 911 emergency and non emergency calls; Using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to create calls for service; Assigning priorities and type codes both to incoming calls and to the dispatch of calls for service; Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and multitask; Ability to interpret information from hysterical, incoherent, angry, and upset callers;-Create crime and informational reports.

The wearing of a headset is also required and is purchased by the employer. Incumbents receive paid training beginning on their first day attending the Basic Dispatch Academy.

These positions may require assignments to a Swing, Graveyard, or other non-standard shift; most work four 10-hour shifts followed by three days off. There is a shift differential payment of $2.25/hour for Swing Shift and $2.50/hour for Graveyard Shift.

Position & Duties - Police Radio Dispatcher Trainee

The Police Radio Dispatcher Trainee position is an entry level training position in the Communications Unit of the Police Department. The key responsibilities for Police Radio Dispatcher Trainee include:

-Learning to dispatch police personnel and equipment on both routine and emergency calls utilizing the computer aided dispatch system, video display terminals, radio dispatching consoles, and related equipment; Answering the telephone and receiving emergency, non-emergency, and 9-1-1 requests for assistance; Inquiring, interpreting, verifying, receiving, and disseminating information from law enforcement computer networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, etc; Participating in field training exercises as needed to fully develop dispatching skills; Performing all related learning and testing activities.

Police Radio Dispatcher Trainee - $90,657.84 *After training is completed, the salary range for Police Radio Dispatcher is $100,660.56 - $122,391.36.*
These amounts include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay.
