The Dixon Fire Department is looking to fill a full-time vacancy for a Fire Engineer and to establish an eligibility list for any future vacancies. This position performs advanced firefighting and rescue activities; operates and maintains the entire range of Fire Department vehicles, apparatus, equipment & facilities. The Town of Los Gatos is recruiting for a temporary/hourly Code Compliance Officer as part of the Town's Code Compliance team in the Community Development Department. Under direction, the Code Compliance Officer performs a variety of duties and assignments including patrol, which is principally the performance of a variety of routine, nonhazardous municipal law enforcement duties for which sworn personnel are not required.

This position reports to and is supervised by the Town's Building Official. The successful candidate will receive appropriate training in the collection of information, the use of noise meters and other equipment, compliance tactics and strategies, and other matters consistent with the Town's high degree of respect and courtesy to all parties.
 
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Code Compliance Officer must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with the public and exercise sound judgment, tact, and integrity. The Code Compliance Officer must possess a calm demeanor and remain alert and coherent while under routine or stressful situations. The successful candidate must understand how to respond appropriately to changing field situations and work well with staff from Police, Community Development, and other Departments.

• Patrols the Town on assigned shifts for the purpose of enforcing and preventing violations of applicable codes and ordinances and reporting unsafe conditions and other related conditions.
• Focuses on public disturbance, or other nuisance behaviors.  Documents field observations and actions accurately.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. 

• Bachelors Degree in planning or a related field. 
• One year experience in investigation, zoning administration, law enforcement or related field. 
• Additional related experience may be substituted year for year for the education requirement provided the minimum attainment is high school graduation.
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Desirable experience interpreting policies and ordinances and demonstrated work experience in code compliance and preferably with a municipality.

DEFINITION

Under direction of the Chief Building Supervisor/Building Official, to assist in inspecting buildings and building construction for conformance with regulations, to perform construction contract management and inspections, and to do related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Enforces building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and fire codes; issues permits for all building activities; does plan checks on all construction, sewer connections, and septic tank installation, to ensure code compliance; investigates violations and checks all complaints regarding building procedures; works closely with Fire Marshall’s office on plan checks and fire code enforcement; enforces zoning code regulations and business licenses; gives information to the public regarding codes and ordinances, and confers with owners, architects, and engineers regarding design construction and filing of records, plans, maps, and similar documents; keeps records and prepares reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  State and local building and fire codes and ordinances, provisions of electrical and plumbing regulations, principles and techniques of building construction, principles of structural design and basic engineering mathematics, building materials and accepted safety standards, standard installation procedures for electrical and plumbing facilities, and local zoning regulations.

Ability to:  Analyze, interpret, and check building plans and specifications; understand, interpret and apply laws and regulations; prepare clear and concise written reports; use a computer to record, organize, and monitor all building inspection activities including written reports; maintain cooperative working relationships with engineers, architects contractors, government officials, employees, and the general public.  Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:  Three years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of building inspection or construction work.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Certification:  Possession of a “International Code Council Building Inspector Certification” , is desirable, or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months  of  hire date.

The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is seeking to fill multiple Senior Public Safety Dispatcher positions in the Communications Division.

Senior Public Safety Dispatchers (Senior PSDs) are responsible for supervising a team of Public Safety Radio Dispatchers (PSRDs) assigned to a shift in the Communications Center. PSRD is the journey-level class for public safety dispatching within the City of San José wherein incumbents are required to handle the full range of telephone answering and dispatch functions.

Responsibilities of the Senior PSD include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervising PSRDs, including approving time-off and other scheduling requests in accordance with the established guidelines.
• Assigning PSRDs to work the various dispatch positions within the Communications Center.
• Conducting training sessions and drills to maintain the efficiency and coordination of their assigned team.
• Evaluating the performance of team members and giving frequent feedback to subordinates.
• Preparing written training evaluations and performance appraisals.
• Investigating and responding to resident, department, and allied agency concerns or complaints.
• Coordinating with Chief Officers in the field regarding matters affecting department operations.

In addition to the salary, employees in the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay and a (3.75%) Public Safety Radio Dispatcher Certification Pay.

• $115,356.80 - $140,358.40 (pensionable)

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough.
